Why does your mom reminds me of those TV villains where the sidekick is "What about Y thing" and the villain is "what a wonderful idea I had, lets do Y thing! IM A GENIOUS!" XDMom months ago: I'm repainting the living room
Me: Paint it purple
Mom: I'm not painting it purple
Mom last week: I'm repainting the dining room red
Me: Ew, no, that will clash with the floor. Paint it blue.
Mom: I'm not painting it blue.
Mom today...
Mom: I'm painting the living room purple and the dining room blue. Red in the dining room would clash with the floor.
Me: ...

And it snowed, and snowed. I had off for a few days, for parent/ teacher conferences, and Pres. Day. Today was called for eLearning. And, I hear, more coming at us by Thursday. As it is, the snow hills on either side of my driveway are crazy high, and the opening to the street is getting narrower and narrower.

I can relate to that. I live close to my girls but because of this damn plague, I don't see them often. The weather here hasn't been awful but the cold air (low 30's) make it to cold to play golf and that is what kept me in tune with the family. I don't call them, not because I think it is their job to call me, but it saddens me a little that they don't call to at least check up. I am almost 73 with a list of problems that on the surface aren't life threatening, but could quickly turn into it. I don't call because they are very busy with work, with their kids, with their husbands and life in general. If you have ever called someone for a chat and figure out quickly that you have called at a bad time, but they don't want to tell you. So I tell them please call me. I'm idol most of the time. I'm on the computer a lot, but the phone is within 10 inches of me. I have to admit that it bothers me a little. I don't think that they don't care, but I could be lying here dead for weeks before anyone would call me. I don't know the reason why, maybe it is something I am doing that upsets them or with everything else going on, or maybe they just innocently forget. I would know pretty quickly if any of the family got ill because someone in the group would let me know. There is no one here to call them if something were happening to me.
Is that selfish of me to expect to be checked on occasionally. I had my 2nd covid shot last Saturday. No one had called to ask if I am OK.
To be honest, one of them does check Facebook and can see if I posted anything recently. The other doesn't do social media, "anymore". I thought we had a good relationship, but now I am starting to get paranoid and wonder just how strong our relationship really is. Vent Done!!!
Come on up north to get warm
I'm sure that Emy is enjoying the snow. She doesn't think it's carp. Emy knows a winner when she sees it -- it's her winter playground! (You're just sulking because you can't wear your flip flops to your beer run!)
P.S.: Love the photo of Emy with the large icicle! (Looks like outside here. We had a big ice storm last night -- everything is a sheet of ice outside.)
To be honest that thought has crossed my mind. I know one of them has accepted, in a form, my aging and change in physical ability, the other has been really good at denial for years. If I bring up the subject of getting older and the years are going fast, she will immediately compare me to my wife and say that I try to keep moving and strong and that I will outlive all of them. Frankly, I hope not. I do not want to see my kids go first, I don't know how any parent deals with that. My wife was 8 years older then me, so I haven't lived as long as she did yet. She passed at 76. I still have 3+years to go to just equal that. However, I do think that what you said has a lot of bearing on the situation.Take this with a grain of salt. Perhaps because you've always been so efficient and self-sufficient, they instinctively don't think to call, to check in on you. Even though you're getting older, this may not have really sunk in yet with them.
I'm not saying either side here is right or wrong. It's just an outside observation I had, as I do not know anyone in your family.
Never thought I’d be happy with the weather I have, but compared to a lot of the country we are in a heat wave. Grateful to have heat and electricity also. Really feel for those without power.

Do you have a heat source that isn't electric? Thanks, Figgy...!!!
Yep, that’s the current worry right now...not so much iced branches fallin’ on power lines, but, the power lines themselves gettin’ so weighed down with ice.
Still haven’t lost power, but, this next round could possibly do it...everything crossed, that we can cross anyway...!!!
My dh is mean or James is nuts. James went out to start the car wearing shorts and a Tshirt I'm going with James is nuts

Let's just say my child is unwell and in need of therapyPLEASE tell me he was also wearing flip flops... TSSFFCS (T-Shirt Shorts Flip Flop Car Start)...!!!!!!!
So, the temperature outside has risen steadily to mid-30s now! Icy rain has turned to regular rain, and it's starting to melt large icicles off the roof -- and they crash (loudly) down to the pavement. It's enough to wake the dead when one of those huge projectiles hits the ground. I've nearly jumped out of my chair here a few times in the past hour.
Meanwhile, dog is sound asleep during all this.
Until, I just opened a breakfast bar -- and guess what 4-legged freeloader, just bolted up the stairs at the muted sound of a small wrapper being opened?!
