Ivory Tower Squabble EST 2011. WINDMILL SURVIVOR
So frustrating. AMy hubby’s Dad always leaves the same voicemail. “I need to talk to you about something important”. Never what it’s about. Nine out of ten times, nope not important.

Yes I know the Gibson Group owns the Boat. Why I posted my concern. I love that place. .I loved the seasoning so much at the Boathouse, I went online to find it. I'm on my first one. My mom has gone through 3 since I've had mine.
If you didn't know, it's Gibson's
I think for some parents, as they get older, they just want to talk to their kids and so they say it's important when it's not, hoping it will make them pick up. My dad called me a couple times a week and I think mostly he was just lonely. He'd call and talk about the weather and what errands he was planning to run that week. He'd tell me all about going to the bank, the feed store, a cattle auction, the gun shop...and most of those places he didn't go because he had business there...he'd go to chat with the workers. He'd go to the bank and talk to the "ladies at the bank"...not the tellers, but the ones who were like receptionists for the big guys, etc. He'd bring them fruit trays and cookies ....he kept a mug there for coffee. But he was in his 80s and lived alone, so I think it was more that he was just craving any human connection he could get. And I know he usually didn't have any earth shattering news or anything really important to talk about, but I really looked forward to those 5 minute calls, just to say hi. I miss those....I thought I had a message saved on the answering machine from some time when he called and we weren't home, but apparently I don't.My hubby’s Dad always leaves the same voicemail. “I need to talk to you about something important”. When I moved here, we had to put a lot of stuff in storage, and my MIL insisted that my winter coat needed to be drycleaned before we out it in storage, and obviously I didn't need a big, thick, down-filled coat here like I did in Wyoming. She took it to the drycleaners and the lady was like "Um....you don't plan to wear that in the Netherlands, right?" and my MIL explained that I was from a much colder place and that's why the coat was going into storage for now, but if I ever went back to Wyoming in the winter, I'd need it, so I couldn't get rid of it. The lady was shocked...she had never seen such a big coat.
Thanks for checking, Figgy...!!!
Still 6 inches of snow on the ground, as even though the sun was out all day, it never got above about 18* so none of it melted. I can’t really see tryin’ to make it into the office tomorrow either, and they’re predicting even more carp possibly tomorrow night, through Wednesday, into Thursday morning.
We’ll see how the rest of the week plays out, but, we’re supposed to be in the upper ‘60’s over the weekend...!!!!!
I have friends and family that invested in Generac whole house generators that have saved them a number of times in summer and winter power outages. It is not cheap but it sure comes in handy and probably helps with the resale value if one decides to sell their home.Never thought I’d be happy with the weather I have, but compared to a lot of the country we are in a heat wave. Grateful to have heat and electricity also. Really feel for those without power.

North Texas is paying the price with multiple accidents. Some counties are not using a higher concentration salt on the roads ( take a hint from the Salt Belt states ,) which would help melt the ice better and instead are using a sand and 10 percent salt mixture instead. Their reason is a higher concentration of salting the roads would deteriorate the roads in the long run. Here it is Feb and we had an unbelievable thunderstorm last night rain and wind lightning, more rain we don't need. The last 2 days we have had 4" of rain my garden is under water hope my onions survive, my spinach and beets were just coming up and looks like I'll be replanting those. Got up this morning to let the dog our it's 64 degrees after 3 days of not getting above 40. Crazy weather glad I'm not in TX
I can relate to that. I live close to my girls but because of this damn plague, I don't see them often. The weather here hasn't been awful but the cold air (low 30's) make it to cold to play golf and that is what kept me in tune with the family. I don't call them, not because I think it is their job to call me, but it saddens me a little that they don't call to at least check up. I am almost 73 with a list of problems that on the surface aren't life threatening, but could quickly turn into it. I don't call because they are very busy with work, with their kids, with their husbands and life in general. If you have ever called someone for a chat and figure out quickly that you have called at a bad time, but they don't want to tell you. So I tell them please call me. I'm idol most of the time. I'm on the computer a lot, but the phone is within 10 inches of me. I have to admit that it bothers me a little. I don't think that they don't care, but I could be lying here dead for weeks before anyone would call me. I don't know the reason why, maybe it is something I am doing that upsets them or with everything else going on, or maybe they just innocently forget. I would know pretty quickly if any of the family got ill because someone in the group would let me know. There is no one here to call them if something were happening to me.I think for some parents, as they get older, they just want to talk to their kids and so they say it's important when it's not, hoping it will make them pick up. My mom was in her early 60s when she passed, but she didn't usually call unless she wanted to rake me over the coals about something I did that she didn't agree with, and demand that I amend my behavior. She never called just to talk the way my dad did. There was always a purpose and it was usually to tell me how disappointed she was that I <insert perceived infraction here>.
The like was for being able to get your second shot. I do check on the moms a couple of times a week. They just always seem to call during meal timeI can relate to that. Is that selfish of me to expect to be checked on occasionally. I had my 2nd covid shot last Saturday. No one had called to ask if I am OK.
To be honest, one of them does check Facebook and can see if I posted anything recently. The other doesn't do social media, "anymore". I thought we had a good relationship, but now I am starting to get paranoid and wonder just how strong our relationship really is. Vent Done!!!
Same here except it's icy this morning but we should be able to get out by this afternoon. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed we get all snow ThursdayNever thought I’d be happy with the weather I have, but compared to a lot of the country we are in a heat wave. Come north to get warm It's going to be above 40 this afternoon
So, the temperature outside has risen steadily to mid-30s now! Icy rain has turned to regular rain, and it's starting to melt large icicles off the roof -- and they crash (loudly) down to the pavement. It's enough to wake the dead when one of those huge projectiles hits the ground. I've nearly jumped out of my chair here a few times in the past hour.
Meanwhile, dog is sound asleep during all this.
Until, I just opened a breakfast bar -- and guess what 4-legged freeloader, just bolted up the stairs at the muted sound of a small wrapper being opened?!
