You and I are in the same camp. I miss Aldi a lot but I revolt at the surcharge. Aldi is a very confined space with often lines that overlap the shoppers space. Not willing. For the present time they lost a loyal shopper for a $5 money grab just like Mariano’s has. Money grabs vs profits overall and adjusting to current conditions it is poor marketing. They are just switching cashiers for personal shoppers. Diverting personnel to different roles.

Walmart and Sam’s Club get it. COSTCO is trying to. They have created a new enterprise that is starting to roll out in separate space from their stores. Warehouses that pick your online orders that deliver to your home. Some think outside the box others don’t and look at petty up charges over greater profit Margins. Given the new variants of COVID some major Businesses need to adjust their 2019 business models. It may well be 2022 before shopping resumes to yesteryear. Me maybe never. I’ve learned to enjoy shopping from my couch Vs a shopping cart and check out lanes No unloading onto a belt. Putting back into my cart and into my truck. Now I click and it is prepacked into To my trunks. Win, a chore I always hated made easier.
I'm down to either getting everything delivered or the pop trunk method except milk and produce. I miss Aldi having only been in twice since March both were random driving by an empty parking lot situation

You're preaching to the choir. I drove a bus and I defy you to tell me how I would have been able to clear the snow of the roof of a bus. Also a semi. They are the ones that cause the greatest amount of danger, yet there is no real solution to that problem. I admit that I went out this morning without clearing my roof. What I did do is stop at a stop sign, looked both ways and behind me, seeing it was clear put the petal to the metal and all of it came sliding off the car before I got through the intersection.

I have a personal, scary situation as it related to a HUGE thick slab of heavy ice that flew off the top of a truck, going by me (I was on the sidewalk). No exaggeration -- that ice slab was a good 12 feet long and it crashed (Loudly!!) on the sidewalk, about a foot in front of me, where I was walking. Had that heavy ice come down on top of me, it would have knocked me to the concrete, and probably really injured me.

(This happened a few years ago, and I'll never forget it. I have zero tolerance for trucks not removing ice, before they go out on the road.)

Yes, that is a terrible risk but it is a regional risk. There is no practical way unless all trucks are kept inside a heated garage to avoid it. Usually when starting out the ice/snow buildup on trucks is stable which means it would be nearly impossible to remove by hand. Once on the road air friction causes the part that is sticking solidly to the roof to start to move. It is something that every pedestrian, or traveler should always be conscious of and do what is necessary to avoid being in a spot that could cause problems. Somethings just are not easily fixed. This is one of them. It has been a problem for years unless you live in the deep south where it is seldom a problem, however, when we do get snow it is usually at night and it warms up above freezing shortly after sunrise which exacerbates the problem much quicker.

I'm sure that must have been practically heart stopping for you and you know as well as I do that the end results might have been far worse then you stated. I sure appreciate the fact that it landed a few feet in front of you, for all our sakes. But, that would have been something that would have made me instantly hate winter, instead of taking a number of years. Those are just some of the reasons why I hate winter and snow. It may be pretty but it comes with many dangers to health and happiness.
