Speaking of wine and alcohol in general, I get really sad that they don't sell it here in supermarkets and online. Stupid state laws.

PS - My connection to work from home is not working yet  3 - 5 here as of now. 4 - 8 at work.
I think the law here varies from city and town, not so much a state-wide rule, as RI has.

Yah, you guys are going to get more snow than we are this week, so enjoy!! :) Hopefully, your computer connection to work will be fixed.

Oh my...!!!!!!! :hilarious:
Our firm hires 2 summer interns every year, and a few have been hired full-time after graduating college. I always try not to judge the interns, because they’re still learning, but, that’s classic...!!!!!!! 😂
Over all those years, I’ve worked with plenty of architecture degree possessing folks who couldn’t handle it. You just wonder if their degree actually came from “Joe’s Bar & Grill & Architecture School”. More than I can remember, and they didn’t last long.
About 15 years ago one of the partners called me into his office. He wanted to show me something.
One of the guys was workin’ on a design for him. He said “Take a look at this ****!” It was, quite frankly, a disaster. It was just sooo disjointed, and horrible, with such obvious design flaws. Then he said “I can’t believe this guy got his degree from the same “freakin’” school I did!!!” (Texas Tech, btw).
He went back to just doin’ construction documents. A little while later, he and another co-worker left to start their own firm. That firm no longer exists.
Yep, I’ve worked, shortly, with many of what I refer to as FLWJ’s (Frank Lloyd Wright Junior’s) over the years...!!! ;)
It's really sad, because you'd think that having graduated, they should be able to at least handle basics! My husband has met his share of idiots. The company he works for is only a consultancy firm. They do calculations and then give advice about what kind of system a particular building needs for heating, ventilation, air conditioning, etc. So they were working on a design for a swimming pool, I think? And there was something wrong with the showers. Brand new facility, but the showers weren't working properly....they were too hot I think? All my husband had to do was look at the design to see that the people who had built it and moved some filter or something and put it on the wrong end, so where cold water was supposed to mix with the hot, it couldn't because the cold water didn't make it to that point. Or a month back or so there was something about a heating system where it uses water to heat the floors, but they forgot to add a water source. They had all the pipes in there, but nowhere for the water to fill them. Or a ventilation system without a place for the air to come in. Stuff like that. And he's the one that has to call the installation company and tell them it won't work the way they want to do it, etc. Like you said, it makes you wonder where they got their degrees. I'm not at all an engineer, but even I understand if you are using water to heat things, you have to have a water source.

They are in the process now of changing how energy labels are calculated. He's been doing it for years, but they are changing the process now and he's having to take courses to learn how the new system works. So he read through the book and the course materials...then he's doing the course (Online) and I can hear him questioning the teacher "In the book it says you need to use this as the default if we don't know this calculation." Then the teacher is confused, because he'd just told them you needed to use some other calculation...so is the book right or is the teacher right. And throughout the day, I hear him do this several times....ask which information is correct or ask for clarification about something. He has to take an exam on Friday about this, and out of 1000 people who have already taken this test, only 30 have passed it....and the person teaching the course hasn't taken the test yet. :banghead: So the teacher doesn't even know what he's doing and my husband is having to correct everything he says that isn't what the book says. The teacher half jokingly tells my husband that they are looking for people to teach the classes if he is interested.

Well, my road test is going to be canceled. I had my driving lesson this morning and my instructor told me it's probably the last one for this year, which confused me, because I still have one left, and then my test is scheduled for the 31st. But our cases reached 10,000 again yesterday, and after months of dragging feet, the cabinet has finally decided to call for a lockdown, starting tonight at midnight and going until January 19th. All non-essential stores, all contact-businesses (hair salons, massage, etc) and that includes driving schools. Schools are going to virtual starting Wednesday, but vacation was already supposed to start after this week. A's school was doing a half day on Thursday and they had Friday off, so now the school just decided to end tomorrow. No use doing a day and a half of virtual lessons and then shut down. I don't know about E's school yet, but she said she was supposed to have a bunch of tests just before the vacation, which they can't do now. But I don't know if they will cancel classes after tomorrow or go ahead and do a couple of days of virtual.

But it's also causing havoc because there's a run on stores because all the non-essentials will be closed after today. But the farmers are protesting right now because they don't think supermarkets are paying them fairly, so they are on strike and are blocking distribution centers, and stores aren't getting shipments. This was our grocery store today:

So now you've got people trying to prepare for a lockdown and the grocery store is all but empty...well, the fresh stuff. There was no ground beef at all, and I didn't think to look at chicken...I have leftovers for tonight anyway, but this was the one fruit aisle, and across from this was just as empty...that's the broccoli, cabbage, leek, cauliflower, etc. And you can see the potato section is pretty empty at the end there. There were 3 bags of the red jacket potatoes, so I grabbed one since I was almost out, but they were out of the regular onions so I called my husband to ask if we needed any since they had 2 nets of really small ones, but he said we were good. So yeah...everything was empty. Lettuce, carrots, tomatoes, peppers,....everything. Grocery stores will still be open, but if they can't get shipments in, it's a huge problem. Which also means as soon as the farmers are done with their strike, there will be a run on grocery stores because people will be desperate, and that won't help the lockdown if the grocery stores are packed. It's a MESS.

We managed to call the hair salon as soon as it opened...well we got a busy signal several times before we got through, but we made an appointment for the boys tonight before they shut down. They said the phone's ringing off the hook.

It's just really frustrating because if they'd done a lockdown 2 months ago when we were at 10,000 cases per day, we could have been opening up now and we could have had Christmas with our families. Now, because they couldn't make up their minds, they are locking down right in the Christmas rush, which is going to mean the stores have to be closed during the time when they would normally have the most sales, so it's a harder hit on the economy than it would have been 2 months ago. And we can't be with family for the holidays. :(

We can get it online here, but not in supermarkets. Whenever I'm in South Carolina, it's so weird to go into a grocery store and see wine on the shelves because I've lived in Maryland my whole life.

Liquor stores were considered essential businesses back when everything else was shut down.

Good news: the Hippodrome is scheduled to reopen on May 4 of next year so Hamilton is scheduled to be back next year!
