Remember all the shots we got in the service and the air needle guns they used for mass injections. They stopped using them ---CDC found they were unsafe

Amazingly, that is the one memory that sticks into my mind the most clearly about Basic Training. I remember going to this building and being checked out while following a queue line around to different stations. The corners were blind and you would come around the corner and two people, one on each side would hit you with the air needles. You didn't know what they were injecting or even why. Go around another corner and there would be one or two more just waiting.

Do you know what was unsafe about them, maybe there is a possible lawsuit in the making here. ;) I didn't mind those guns other then the secrecy involved. Before you knew what was happening it was done. Seems like the upper arms were sore for a while though. I don't remember that for sure, but looking back I don't see how that could have been avoided. Maybe they could take them out of retirement to get this virus under control, whenever a vaccine shows up. It was startlingly fast.

I'm looking for support or correction on this. I don't honestly ever remember hearing background music while waiting for a Monorail or even a bus for that matter. Why should there be any for the Gondola's. As a preventive statement. I am not one that notes background stuff. If anything is there it is part of the atmosphere to me and not something that I take note of. I know there are some of you that know what songs are in any areas loop, I only remember one and that is "Now is the Best Time" from WDW's first CoP. That one had a very strong sentimental memory for me and I notice it consciously when it comes on other then that it is white noise atmosphere background. I suppose I might notice it if it wasn't where my brain thought it should be.
No music at the monorail station. I don't recall music waiting for water craft or buses either.

It only makes sense. Monorails, Buses (at least initially are mostly promotional for places you haven't gotten to yet), boats and other pieces of machinery are basically utility items not entertainment items. The magic is when you arrive at the parks or the resort. They are the prize and the transportation systems are only there to take you to the prize.

We made reservations for tomorrow at the local rec center to go swimming. There is a lake area, but it's not safe in this weather because there's some sort of parasite or something in the water that causes skin irritation? I don't know what it's called in English, but the literal translation from Dutch is Blue Algae. So we can't go there. But E had a party to go to at her friend's house today, so we couldn't go today.

Edited to add: We are having a heatwave this week. Every day is supposed to be in the 90s for the next week or so.

We had an issue with a toxic blue-green algae on Lady Bird Lake last year. Sickened several dogs and killed a few. Sad.
They said to be prepared for it again this year. Haven’t heard of any issues with dogs so far this year. A little more rain equals increased water flow in the lake, plus folks are bein’ more careful.

I was searching the web and the CDC said they were a source of infection from one patient to another. I remember the medics giving the shots said stand perfectly still or the gun wound tear a hole in your skin. Of course there was always one no believer in line. The one shot I remember was GG shot (Gama globulin) had no idea what it was for just remember my arm hurt like he!! for a few days. We were 18 and stupid

I teach 5th graders and anyway, I have for decades been interacting with other teachers and principals. I promise not to talk down to the customers. I'll be new....lacking confidence...I'll be on my best behavior ;)

As most here know, I started working retail in ‘09 during the last recession. To say the least, definitely different than my previous 29+ years in architecture.
My first gig (of several other retail gigs) was at our local Disney Store. Other than one other part time CM there who had been working retail all her life, I was, at age 46, by far the oldest CM there.
So...new CM, old guy, never worked retail before. :cyclops:
Over a relatively short period of time, I fit right in. I was willing to do anything without complaint...sweep, vacuum, rebuild Plush Mountain, unpack and process shipment, etc., etc., etc.
With that under my belt, the other retail gigs came easier. I ended up being a Lead Manager at the Disney Store for over a year. It was the first retail gig I was hired for and the last one I quit before the firm hired me back full time...08/16/09-10/17/13.
I really never want to work retail again, but, I could if I had to. Also, with mastering that and the confidence I gained, there are plenty of other customer service related jobs out there I could do upon retirement, if desired...! :)
Good luck...!

I am unfortunately not talented in anything but music. I have a way with kids and I am musical. If I lived in Florida I could participate in running a ride at Universal or Disney....or...Wait.....I am a good driver. Maybe I could be an Uber driver? Nah.

One of the retirement gigs my pop had years ago was ferrying cars between dealerships. He would drive cars from a dealership here in Austin and drop them off in Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, etc., and pic up another car to drive back to Austin. One dealership needed one car, the dealership here needed the one he drove back. He enjoyed it and did it part time for a coupla’ years, along with doing yard work for others and working at the liquor store.

That would be great. Anything driving related where I didn't need a CDL License or do heavy lifting. Even though I say I'm gonna teach another 4 years....you never know. Now I feel like I have some options to investigate in case I opt to retire earlier then that. Thank you to each and every person who participated in brain storming this topic w/ me :)

Lunch from the Regal Eagle at Epcot. I thought @Cesar R M and @donaldtoo would like this picture. 🙂

Any picture requests from anyone?

Wow, that looks good.
So, I don't have a picture request, but a kinda general information request if you could inquire for firsthand knowledge while there. We are toying with the idea of a quick trip to take advantage of lower crowds and to just get away.
In looking at some online information it says the main pool at SSR does not open until 11 a.m. now.
We are early morning people and that would be a deal breaker unless the quiet pools have earlier opening times. If you happen to be near a guest relations or general information spot could you inquire about quiet pool opening times and if they are open any earlier than 11 a.m.?
Thanks.

I brought one of T’s friends to KI today. I may have mentioned this here, but on the rides, every other row is closed for distancing. Which means, we can’t be in the same photo..

So, I get their photo from Diamondback, wasn’t going to save mine since I’m alone. Then T sees it and says “Look mom! Your new arm flab in jiggling in the wind! Get the photo!” he’s cracking up.

The photo worker choked out a laugh while trying to hold it in.

Glad my son thinks my weight gain is hilarious.🙄

Yea, the GG was the worst. Left I big lump if I remember correctly. You're testing my memory but I think that shot was a whole lot more cc's then any of the rest of them. Shots don't usually bother me much, but I do remember that one. The use of that "gun" was so fast that it had to be some freaky thing to do the skin thing. I heard about that as well, in fact like you said they reminded us of that at the time. I can see how if the movement was quick enough and just at the right time it could be a bit of a problem. Fortunately, no part of my body has ever moved that fast so it never became an issue. 💉💉

Quiet pool at WL opened at 7 am. I’ll bet all quiet pools on property do, since the feature pools don’t open until 11 am.
