Tbh I have no idea what Hamilton is about. And no desire to watch it. If it was on the west end I may go see it. But on TV . Pass . It's no Phantom.
It's about Alexander Hamilton and the American Revolution. And yes, it does play at the West End. I saw a production when it came to Baltimore. It's scheduled to come again next summer.

In fairness though, it’s to Alexander Hamilton as Oliver Stone was to JFK. Good entertainment, but not the most historically accurate.

Call me a snob if you like but I won't watch Broadway musicals on TV. If it was on at the WE and I could get to it I may see it but I have a list of musicals I want to see live and it isn't in the top 5 . But different horses for different courses.

I've seen it live, I'm obsessed with the soundtrack...this is just feeding into it. Since I couldn't see it with the original cast, this is the next best thing to being in the room where it happened.

It's actually not too bad. There are some discrepancies. Angelica Schylar was already married when Alexander met Eliza. The Battle of Monmouth took place in 1778, not 1781, when the musical tries to put it, but that duel between John Laurens and Charles Lee did happen and Hamilton was there (Aaron Burr was not). Hercules Mulligan and Lafayette never met. George Washington didn't send Hamilton home; he went home because Eliza was pregnant but then came back. Aaron Burr and Hamilton probably weren't as well-aquainted as the musical portrays; Burr only started to vehemently dislike Hamilton after he supported Jefferson in the election, although the impact of Hamilton's opposition was probably negligible.

It does do a good job of explaining the debt crisis, the Federalist Papers, how much Thomas Jefferson and Alexander disliked each other, how the capitol came to be in DC, and why the US didn't enter the French Revolution. Every single duel happened, the Reynolds affair happened (we don't know if Eliza knew about it before the Reynolds pamphlet was published), and a lot of the little details featured in the lyrics (like that Hamilton survived a hurricane) happened.

I read the biography that the musical is based off of. Since I've practically memorized the soundtrack, it was interesting to see where Lin Manuel Miranda took liberties, stuff that was left out (the Whiskey Rebellion) and stuff that was spot on.

I let my dad borrow my laptop so he can do work on vacation and doesn't have to use my brother's cheap, old, dying laptop and instead can use my expensive, newer, very fast one.

He complained that I brought my Surface along as well. He said I could play on my phone if he needed my laptop.

He was working, using my laptop, and then all the sudden, while I was up doing something, he started asking how to unlock my phone because he needed to make a phone call. 🙄🤦
Oh, and he also could not figure out how to rotate a PDF. I showed him how. Three times. He then turned the laptop screen upside down when he couldn't figure it out.

Oh don’t get me wrong, I think historical fictions are great in that they widen an audience for the subject. Hamilton was/is so huge that I’m sure it drove a lot of people to learn more about him and the time.

I don't know if it’s nostalgia, but there are certain musicals that I have more attachment to than others... usually ones that I saw during my youth, and have continued to attend every time they tour. I see new ones too, but there’s a bond with some older ones, if that makes sense.

I’m still super disappointed that we won’t be at MJ the Musical this month, but I’ll be there opening week next Spring! I really hope it’s as good as I’m anticipating.

What I like is that it gets a lot of people to learn more about the American Revolution. I also like that it portrays the founding fathers as real people who disagreed with each other as much as people do today. People tended to view them almost like gods before.

I like older musicals too. Rogers and Hammerstein ones especially. I did "In My Own Little Corner" as a Master Class piece for choir in college; then I performed it at the concert. My tastes range from Les Miserables to Hamilton to Wicked to Sound of Music.

The only thing I'm not really a fan of is Andrew Lloyd Webber. Cats is just plain weird, and I'm not really a Phantom of the Opera fan either. Of course, I don't really like Opera either, so that makes sense.

Thanks for the birthday wishes. 3 of my kids have birthdays within 6 weeks of each other, so it is always a little bit of a bittersweet time. I hate that they are growing up because I miss them being little, but I enjoy seeing the people they are turning into. (usually, anyway. ;)) I still have one in single digits until November.

A belated happy birthday to your DD...!!! :)
Time is flyin’ crazy-fast...
Oldest DD will be 29 this month, youngest DD will be 26 in Sept., and DS will be 28 in Oct....!!!!!!!🤪:hilarious:;):)

The Dixie Chicks are no longer. They are just tThe Chicks now.

I rather Enjoyed the Dixie Chicks. They brought a refreshing and a female band About when you were born. There were plenty of female artists, there were few female bands. I loved their bluegrass/country tone.

While still in my 20s and still in a macho era of guys rule in the music industry and others Area of life, guys of my age demographic loved to slam the Dixie Chicks. So many derogatory nicknames given to this group of successful women. History they stood early on for being against the Bush era War with Iran. Years later the verdict is still out but they may have been spot on. Still they stayed their convictions and principles and survived the crass nicknames so many men labeled them with And do so even today Cause they are chicks.

I so admire their convictions Of 2020 that were there back in the late 80s. So many women were lost to men discrediting women’s successful careers. Dropping Dixie from their name deserves a kudos vs being called twits.

History lesson complete.

Alabama, Arizona, California, Florida, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, and Texas -- all spikes. This is going to be a long summer for many folks. The country will get through this though. If we pulled ourselves out of the worst of this in the Northeast, other areas will as well. I know your state of Illlinois is also working diligently to flatten the curve there.
We were in a bad situation but we locked down quickly. We sheltered. We stayed closed and still are to some extent. We respected the virus. We almost all wear masks. We did not embrace the OPEN IT UP philosophy. Chicago beaches are still closed because people were stupid one weekend and closed immediately and remained So. We are creeping into very small areas of OPENING. We watched the FAILS of other states openings. I give our Governor and the Mayor of Chicago kudos for reading the virus As dangerous vs were done with this attitude. I saw again today it is going away advice guidance from the administration. Me that is wreck-less. I want a sound medically factual strategic plan that is national and medically sound.

Me I am going bonkers sheltering but the alternative is not appealing. The heat is not helping that shelter thing being indoors so much. My DD FIRM AND HER DEPARTMENT is looking at 2021. Our local schools are giving parents the choice of learning at home or our typical school setting. I hate Florida’s new rule of no children during working hours for governmental and educational hours am undo burden on parents with minors given the uptick of virus and the health and wealth fare of us as a country. I want us to pull together as a country in this time of uncertainty as a united country. it was difficult enough to be a professional woman with children in my era let alone during a pandemic, I can’t even fathom The choices being forced in some states. It should not be. We should not punish parents of children during an uncontrolled National pandemic.

Bangs Head.

Tell him to get his own!
I agree! And why does it matter to him what YOU bring on vacation? We got the kids their own laptops because my husband uses his for work sometimes, A needs to play on the computer when he gets worked up and needs a destresser, E needs hers for schoolwork, and I keep in touch with family and friends in the US via computer. It just made more sense for us all to have our own so we don't have to worry about it. It's been especially helpful with the virtual learning. A lot of E's classmates are having issues because they have to share a computer with all the family members working from home, or siblings with their own school work, etc. You can't have two kids doing separate school work at the same time on one laptop. Does he have his own and just didn't want to bring it?
