Oh my, you're reminding me of what a nerd I was. Which was okay because where I went to school, the smart kids were the cool ones. Our valedictorians, along with several others, went to Ivy League schools. And this was a public school. Anyway, I never went to a single school dance, not even prom. The one and only time I cut school was for a mandatory pep rally. I was a senior, I had a car, so I left campus and went to...wait for it...the library. 😂
@StarWarsGirl didn't everybody cut at one time or another to go to the library?

First of all... @StarWarsGirl - you went to the BEST high school around, right? As far as I'm concerned, all alumni of that high school have become amazing adults. To your comments about reunions and social stuff... the first one I went to was the 25 year 5 years ago ago. My best friend and I said we would just go and hide out in the corner unless we saw people we actually wanted to connect with. Much to our surprise, the majority of the crowd there was from our same nerdy circles and we had a great time!

Now, as per the discussion of cutting class to go to the library. I cut one class in all of high school. It was PE my senior year (this was back in the days when you had to take PE all through high school and you had it every day)and it was during the wrestling unit. Our teacher would put all the boys around the circle on the wrestling mat and we'd have something like WWE tag-team wrestling, but anyone could tag anyone. After the first couple days of that and ending up in the circle against a 6-4, 260lb lineman from the football team, I decided I would take a day off from that class, so I cut class. And went to the library. I knew the PE teacher would never notice or care...but one of the administrators came into the library and said "you aren't usually here during this period" to me - I replied with "Mr. Snyder sent me here to do some written work since I pulled a muscle." She believed it and he never checked anything. BUT, being the guilty conscious that I am, when I became a teacher in the same district, I sought her out and told her the real story of that day. Her comment, "I don't blame you, Snyder was a total ....."

I had one teacher who knew my aunt and knew I spent time with her over the summer. Long story short I was asked how well I knew the material and only had to pop in at the beginning of the class to find out if their was a quiz or test. I didn't have to sit through it as long as I was in the library or lab:joyfull:

Well, if you're pretty sure you want to go to college and you wouldn't rather learn a trade (ex. Hair cutting, estitician, etc) then you can figure it out in college. My school had you select a major, and then dumped your major courses on you right away so that if you didn't like it, you could switch right away. Other schools might have you start with your gen eds and then have you choose a major.

I was fairly certain business was my route, so I went to school for business admin. The good thing about that degree is that there's a lot of ways you can take it, and now that I've been working, I know more specifics and can go take the extra courses. I did know a girl who changed her major three times in college. I tutored in accounting (really, I should have listened to my professor given that he was right, he told me to switch majors) and so many people switched majors after the first accounting course because some of the business administration courses were finance heavy. So no, your counselors telling you that you have to know exactly what you want to do right out of high school is a lie. A general idea is good, but you're entitled to change your mind.
Thanks so much. See I love dance and every time I bring it up to my parents they look at me like I am crazy. I am not talking like becoming a Broadway dancer but to teach dance. I have been doing some form of dance since I was 6. I know it probably don't pay a ton of money but I would love it and it would be working with people.

I feel I should explain my statement of not having a career path..

I did have some path as my major in College was Business Management. That is a general catch all and really isn't a definable career.
While in college I drove a delivery truck for a hospital supply company part time....
After college (in fact the day after) I was in the Air Force with an Inventory Management Specialist title.
Even with that I learned how to operate front end loaders and fork lifts of all shapes and sizes.
I got exposure to the early days of computers when the computer filled a 20 x 20 room and the hard drive weighed 300 pounds of polished metal. At least that is what I think it was made of.
After college I became the Manager of a Ben Franklin Variety Store for a couple of years.
Then I went into publishing of a shopping newspaper, which in turn became a webb printing business for quite a few years until I go bored. (14+ years) While there I learned how to do graphic arts, offset Photo's (with halftones), press plates, operate printing presses that could print up to 48 pages of tabloids with full color shopping circulars and news papers as well as publishing a number of misc. things.
Somewhere after that I owned and operated a Residential Care home taking care of Elderly, Mentally and physically challenged and mentally ill people providing room and board, laundry service and basically maid service along with Transportation to appointments. That is an occupation where the burn out can come quite quick. I think about another 14 years.
Following that I actually went into Accounting for two different construction companies over another few years, Not both at the same time.
Since it actually didn't take very long to get bored with that I made yet another major change and decided to get out of management. I got a CDL and found a job as a municipal bus driver which got old surprisingly quickly so after a few years I remained in the busing business but in a field management position.
Right now I am doing my favorite career which consists of being retired and playing golf. My favorite to this point.
There were a few odds and ends like a Temporary job with IBM working the line creating computer chips. Perhaps that is why those masks don't bother me. I worked in a clean room with every inch of my body covered with special clothing, booties, hoods with masks and rubber gloves. No choice of whether or not you would wear them. 🙂 Moral of the story... you don't need to have a specific target to get through life. I was always learning something new and I enjoyed that, but I tend to get bored with stuff quickly.
I miss Ben Franklin stores:(

Thank you sir. You were an inspiration.

So what DID you cut school for? :p I never cut school. My mother would have killed me if I had ever even thought about it. I was the only senior there on " senior skip day" except one other girl whose foster father was the school guidance counselor.
I have a court order preventing me from disclosing this ...

Yes, yes I did. It was the best. In spite of the water running brown and that day freshman year that the ceiling fell down in the auditorium. 😂

Oh gosh. See, it went a little differently in my case. My last class was right near the doors out to the senior lot. So some kids started asking the teacher if we actually had to go to the pep rally. She told us yes, we were supposed to, but if we left to not tell her about it. So I, along with a bunch of others, got in our cars in the mess of students leaving and drove off. And I didn't want my mom wondering why I was home early, so I got Burger King through the drive through and then went to the library to study. I told her about it years later and she was like, why would you ever have thought I would have been mad about that? 😂

I randomly run into my high school teachers because I work literally down the street from it. I shall never tell. They must continue thinking I was a perfect angel. 😇

Actually, my brother has PE still because he's in Special Education and took it as an option, and he had the same PE teacher I had freshman year. To my amazement, he remembered me. He said something to my brother. So today I popped in during his class and was like, "Hey! It's your student from a decade ago!" He tried to tell me my math was wrong. Nope, don't think so...

Wow!!! The water turning brown. That is crazy. So is the auditorium ceiling falling down.

My teachers I bet if you asked about me in private they would say I was the perfect devil and I have the red hair to prove it. Ha Ha I do really think my teachers love me though although I annoy them with talking so much. This will be the first year I don't take P.E. which is OK. I don't mind P.E. much except for the running. 😂

Library or Beach????? Let me see, which one will I choose? Of course the library where all the books are that I am trying to escape from. :D
Of course. I mean, why would you want to read books when they make you read stuff like Lord of the Flies in school? Or the Scarlet Letter? Ugh. And I frankly don't care if Of Mice and Men is a classic; I hated that book. And not only do they make you read, but to make sure you read, they give you quizzes, and I don't know about you, but I used to freeze up on those "reading check" quizzes.

This is coming from someone who reads 60+ books a year as an adult.

Old George and Lennie, Oh freaking joy of my life. 😂 I do have to say To Kill A Mockingbird and The Outsiders were good reads though and this is coming from someone who doesn't like to read unless it is a gossip magazine. I hated quizzes and tests and I also freeze on them. I also hate to study. I am one of those last minute night before study crammers.

There are some books that are good. Jane Eyre is a good one. Uncle Tom's Cabin is another. Huck Finn isn't bad. I read The Joy Luck Club as an adult, but it's on a lot of reading lists. I liked the Great Gatsby too. It's such a killjoy to have to be quizzed on books, though.

Which is why I will impart some of my old 25 year old wisdom on you and tell you this: read at least one book over the summer just for fun. I can give you some suggestions if you're unsure. But at least one to undo some of the dislike of it.

I am all ears and I will even add a pair of my Mickey Ears as well if you have a good suggestion for a book. A good fantasy one would be great. Even Little Woman I thought was good.
