I saw that. I think we all need to get ourselves mentally prepared for things not being "normal" for a long time.

If I were you I would plan for not having summer camps. My husband was on the board of the church camp and has been told some information before it has been announced. Anyway, the camp in our area and has cancelled vacation bible school (counselors go to area churches to teach vacation bible school for the week) and they are not opening in June. The camp is still taking deposits and reservations for July and August for all their regular camp programs at the camp itself but hubs was told that they aren't 100% planning on being open those months either so they have plans for refunding deposits or rolling them into next year. They said that even if they could open in July or August they just aren't sure if parents are going to be comfortable sending kids to overnight or day camps. A lot of their counselors are college kids and international students, and getting the international students approved to come work in the US might be an issue.
When this is all said and done, I want to see an accurate report on how many women have had to leave their jobs with the schools and camps being closed. I’m quite positive that the number will be much higher than men.
The quiet here gets a little eerie, sometimes. Being close to a major airport, it was one of the first things I noticed.
The like is because I agree that it will probably be women, but I don’t like the idea of this. I hope that makes sense.
I knew it was coming, but I cried when I actually saw it. I really miss all of my lunch kiddos. Yes, even the ones that drove me a little nuts!
Kylie is pukey today. Including once after I gave her nausea meds, so presumably that came up.
Brian is doing a little less driving lately, a little more helping at his Dad's house (their once a week housekeeper quit.) He's there now.
The driving shifts dropped off really fast after Easter. There are far fewer to book. I'm surprised because I presume folks got their stimulus payments. I've been picking them up in between "real work." It's about 50/50 people who tip or don't. Some do tip later (like the next time they open the app and are reminded.)
We had a relatively busy weekend (easily the busiest since we've closed.) I had a lot of ebay auctions ending last night, plus Amazon is heating up as Amazon itself runs out of records. In the stores: this would have been Record Store Day weekend. A movie that was supposed to come out (not in theaters or anything) came out anyway. The distributors let each record store sell the tickets with a dedicated link for $10 each, and we could keep the $10. We sold 21 tickets. We also gave a website coupon if you bought a ticket, and we did free shipping and delivery all weekend (and today.) We posted videos of a new collection that came in, etc. So we hustled and sold a lot of stuff. A lot more work for a lot less money, but it shows what you can do when you have to. Plus a few Shipt deliveries in there. Yes, I'm tired. Shipping all morning. Have to go pick up a wholesale order to fill more shipping orders, it will be a full day.
Plus there's some new, private grant thing that's supposed to kick in at 3PM today with a one-page simple app for $5K for small biz. So I'm waiting on that. We didn't get PPP yet, but we should be in decent shape for the second round (I hope.) I have to finish that up asap.

What is it specifically that you are struggling with? Maybe we can brainstorm with you and come up with some solutions you haven't thought of. Is it the childcare aspect because you are having to work? Or just the idea of the routine being broken? Is it the work that you can't help with?I may be legit experiencing my first panic attack. I can’t breathe. Like, I knew this was a probability, but I kept holding out hope.
Schools are not reopening this year.
I am beyond screwed. I have no idea how we’re going to deal. I just don’t.
I'm betting you're right on that. I had to take E to get a vaccination yesterday and while we were riding our bikes home, we saw numerous young teens and their moms heading toward the vaccination point. E commented that it was always the moms...every single one we saw. We had a conversation about "emotional labor" and how it's usually the mom who fills out the school forms, makes the doctors appointments, handles the schedule for the family, etc. Not always, but a lot more often. And even when both parents work, it's more often the woman who has to take the time off for the school events and such. There are some really involved dads out there, which is awesome, but usually it's the mom who does the "heavy lifting" with that stuff. I know for me, I have to put in my availability 3 weeks in advance. Once that's done, I can't change it. So if I've already done that, and then the school sends out a notice for conferences, I have to hope I'm not working that day, OR I have to find someone to take my shift. If I have enough notice, it's easier for me to take off because I can just set my status for that day or time as "unavailable". But if I have less than 3 weeks notice, it's easier for my husband to ask for that day off because he doesn't have to find a replacement, which usually doesn't work for me. Everyone is already working, so there's no one available or willing to take an extra shift. But in general, it's me who can't work if there's an appointment somewhere for one of the kids. I'm the one who has to keep track of the schedules and know when the school vacations are, and when the parent teacher conferences are, and when the report cards come out, etc. We watched a video not too long ago where they asked dads on the street about things like "When is your daughter's birthday?", " Who is your kids' doctor?", "What's the name of your child's best friend?" Dad's couldn't answer, but when they asked moms, they rattled everything off like it was written down in front of them. My husband can tell you when their birthdays are, and who their best friends are, and certainly the doctor, so that's good! I don't think my dad could have answered any of those questions. But it does make you think how much of a difference there is in the effects on men vs. women. I'd be interested in those statistics, too. When this is all said and done, I want to see an accurate report on how many women have had to leave their jobs with the schools and camps being closed. I’m quite positive that the number will be much higher than men.
We do. It mostly has new merch on it, rather than the collectibles. But we have over 20,000 new titles on it! (Feel free to PM.)By the way do you have a website?
Is drivers Ed required there? It wasn't in Wyoming....you could learn from anyone over 18 with a valid license that they'd had for at least a year. I did take driver's ed, but learned mostly from my brother on the rural roads by my dad's house. They were private, so even though my brother didn't meet the requirements, there were no policemen to patrol out there and there was no traffic. But I would guess, if it's not required, kids can still learn from parents. I saw a friend on facebook just yesterday posted a picture of her 15 year old behind the wheel. She was teaching her to drive. Good time now, I suppose, because the streets aren't as busy.I mentioned I knew about a month ago that the students were not going back. A month ago out on my deck I was talking with our current school board president. He wouldn't say it but I read his chosen words, the tilt of the head, and the way he looked me in the eye. Knew nobody was going back this school year. But I'm sorry you are sad, I so understand. I wonder when parents will just call it themselves a year. Some school districts are giving parents the choice of students repeating the year if the parents believe it is better to repeat. Given in Illinois the cases are still rising as is the death toll. I can't just see putting kids on bus and shipping them back to school.
Me I find it better for the staff and the students, safer. I'm not in the camp that only 2-3% would die if they went went back to school. I'm in the camp that all life matter. Me, learning never ends. Education should never end as the world evolves around us all. I took my kids out of school for at least 2 weeks every year if not longer. They did the work, they came out ahead. My Dad took us out of school each spring for at least a month sometimes two March April. He took all of our textbooks and workbooks. We'd be in Florida and the heat of the day was school time. In 2 hours we did all the work and reading and it was back to Florida Life. I pulled it off with my kids and my Dad with us. I really think that these kids can pull it off also, they have the tech we did not.
Me I feel for the graduating Seniors. You can't get that back. Worse they are in limbo if they are going away to college or not. Double Wham. End social distancing too early by fall it can be back again and we will have a repeat.
My question and maybe you'll know the answer due to your DD age. What the heck happens to the Kids in the middle of their Drivers Education?
Just because there is a Pandemic doesn't mean that everyone can afford to tip. So, I eat at home or go out and get something. I don't want anyone to go out and expose themselves to the virus just so I can stuff my face. This is costing some people a lot of money and I have yet to see that "relief" check show up. Does anyone know if Social Security recipients have been paid out yet, and if so, where can I find a schedule that actually tells you anything. People that can afford or have access to what they need do not have that problem, but those that are stuck, have no choice. Family members are so afraid of contact with their older relative that they use it as a way to "wash their hands" of the situation. (see what I did there)I'm sorry about the people who aren't tipping. I use instacart, and I've been over tipping because people are risking THEIR life to get my groceries.... they deserve extra imho!
And the guy that delivered Saturday, was able to score me an 18 pack of TP.... He's da man!
Wow...yeah, I wouldn't be adhering to those rules. I do try to be considerate of my husband working from home and keep the noise to a minimum, but there's no way I would just NOT use the ice maker or something. He'd never ask me not to! He DID ask me to close the kitchen door one day while I was crushing cans and he was on a video call with work, and once when E and I were baking and making too much noise. But it's not just his house....we ALL live here and we're ALL here for the time being having to share space...emphasis on " share" !!As a Mom of 2 kids I am sure it will be women but the numbers likely won't be tracked. I know from my experience I was the one who 100% had to leave work if the kids got sick or hurt. When I started my own business because of this I was the one who worked my days around my kids. I never had the luxury of going to work only.
I have a friend who husband left for work and he did his work absent of child responsibility. She was a nanny for another family. She had to balance her work for a woman and her kids around her children. Hubby 9- 5. Some things don't change. Exceptions of course. There is a corporate woman near me and her hubby is a stay at home dad to 3 kids, still the exception to how most families of my generation raised their kids and still happening.
One family I know, Dad always works from home. Kids and wife now work from home. He is ticked she has invaded his life and work space, home is his during work hours. It is a real rub. Like she had a choice to be home or their kids home. He now insists that she only use the fridge ice maker only when he is on a break 'cause he can't handle the sound of the ice maker dispenser distraction while he working. I don't see them surviving the Virus. True colors.
Can I ask a question? I have a few early issue vinyl albums, by the Beatles, Cream and the Sound of Music. I know that I have seen them listed for sale on e-bay for hundreds of dollars, but is there anyplace that I can go to find out what they are actually worth as opposed to "I'd like to get".We do. It mostly has new merch on it, rather than the collectibles. But we have over 20,000 new titles on it! (Feel free to PM.)
Well, I can't help with the DMV, but I found this about the stimulus checks. The article is dated yesterday and says you should get your check in late April or Early May at the latest.Just because there is a Pandemic doesn't mean that everyone can afford to tip. (see what I did there)
I have family members that have not lost one penny of income. They are still working either full time from home or part time with full time pay. They have gotten their checks already, me on SS, am still waiting.
I tell you, this is also a difficult time to use the internet for things. I have been unable to contact the P.O. on their website because it is working wacky. And I have no way of telling them it is wacky. Can't go there and get any degree of help (I tried) due to the fact that they have not forwarded one piece of mail from my old address since I moved and if I try and tell them that their site isn't working, I get an immediate reply of "I'm sure the demand is heavy right now". I can't even describe what it is doing because they don't give me a chance before I am just dismissed. It isn't that I get a busy signal, I get connected and it just hangs up or sometimes it starts to ask the question (via robot) and before it finishes asking a question, it stops and a voice comes on and says "I'm sorry I didn't understand your answer". Of course you didn't you never finished asking the question. I can never get beyond that.
Same thing applies with the DMV. I moved and need to change my address. On line, when I finally can get to a working page. I go through all the steps and it tells me because I have a CDL w/passenger attachment, I have to either go to one of their offices or call. Guess what... It's easier to get into Fort Knox then get in the office to talk to a human. They have a guard at the door preventing anyone from entering. Unfortunately, the staff appears to not have seen the website because it kicks me out as soon as it figures out that I have that CDL. I have been unable to even speak to a human via phone. It should be a simple procedure, but it just isn't working now. And all they will tell me is you can change it on the website, NO YOU CAN'T. It stops you in your tracks and will not let you go any further. I can't even make an appointment. I don't see how they are to busy, since no one can get through to them.
Small problems, I realize, but since I am in solitary confinement this is a good time to take care of small stuff like that, but Catch 22, you can't. #frustratedinNC #pullingwhatlittlehairIhaveleft...out.
