All the stores seem to be displaying Christmas stuff and it's not even Halloween, it gets earlier and earlier every year. By the time Christmas gets here (sadly) I can't wait for it to be over. It used to be Christmas stuff wasn't put out until after Thanksgiving. I can stack the Christmas catalogs in the corner and not look at them it's hard to avoid the displays in the stores
There will be a time that every store will do the Disney way.
Always one holiday until the next.
Aka thanksgiving, then presidents day, then summer something, then 4th of july lasting one month, then other festivities, then Halloween full month and then nonstop Christmas until february.. repeat.

So pardon.. the meds really putting some sort of wall between my "doing" skills vs "seeing" skills.
Good thing I do not have to drive this week!
It's okay. Some of us can barely write in English sometimes too. And it's our first language.

We CAN’T do it!!!

Last night after practice and a volatile team meeting, T’s coach specifically told me that he wants him to play on his 3v3 team, and I’ll receive the email shortly. I said that it would be impossible to take on one more commitment right now. His response- I should “think wisely about T’s future with me”

Wth does that mean????

I can’t fit it in!! Starting in November he’s on -
his school’s basketball team.
his club Futsal team.
his club unboarded indoor team.
his school’s boarded indoor team (that I coach)

4 teams!! And we’re still not done with outdoor season until mid November, with school and the club. That’s SIX Sports/leagues for a few weeks.

We are so booked already.. there’s just no way. My son is NINE YEARS OLD. He loves soccer, he loves 3v3 and would enjoy this.. BUT NOT AT THE EXPENSE of other sports!!!!
He is NOT a ONE SPORT ATHLETE.

I won’t let it happen. Not now. Not at this age.

If his coach can’t understand or at least RESPECT that. Then I don’t know what we’re going to do for the future.

Between the pressure to join the 3v3 league, the email that kids shouldn’t play with friends/school teams during the winter.. and a crazy team meeting last night...

Im so worried about baseball season. So worried.

So far T’s club coaches have been great about understanding that my kid loves baseball almost as much as soccer, and may miss some practices and/or games in the spring if conflicts arise, rotating between the 2 when conflicts.

I do not get the impression that we will have that understanding again this year with our new coach. We’re not even getting such understanding for other sports during our off season!!!

This is ridiculous, but it sounds to me like the coach was giving you an ultimatum. I would be furious. It may be at the point where T is going to have to make a decision to drop something.

The coach sounds like one of those teachers in school that scheduled a test on a day when 3 others did the same thing. They always thought their class was the only important one. The coach probably wants to only continue having players that will give 100% to this team.

He’s giving so much. During the off-season he is still playing (additional cost) futsal AND (additional cost) unboarded with them, AND an (additional-cost) technical training with the club. Plus small sided/technical training with Coerver- which imo is much better than his club’s off season training.

He does an additional night of optional technical training now with the club- with girls because his practice overlaps the boys training.. 4 days per week soccer practice. He doesn’t even attend his school team practices.

If all of that doesn’t show dedication to his club and the sport then I don’t know what else could.

off season is late November- 1st week of January. Then they start team training again. It’s such a small window.. there’s no way to pick up one more thing.. we’re already doing 3 “optional” things with the coach/club during that time ... I didn’t even want to do the unboarded but the coach pretty much said it’s optional- but not really optional. Can’t remember if I posted that email here, added it below That’s enough!!!

You said the meeting was volatile. Were other parents angry with what the demands of the coach were?
By the way is the National Championship at ESPN for the 3v3 team? Were you even interested in having T participate in that?

Trader Joe's is OK as long as you like paying the long price for everything. Personally the only thing I buy there around once or twice a year would be the chocolate/orange jell candy. No one else has it anymore. We just had an Aldi's open in town. I haven't been in there yet, so I cannot make a judgment about it at this time. Hopefully, I will have time to stop in soon.

Yah, what's up with the lack of chocolate covered jelly candy these days??!!! I agree -- I've also found it only at Trader Joe's -- and have even made a special trip there, just to buy it! (Luckily, TJ's isn't the most convenient place for me to go, let alone their high prices. But like yourself, a few times a year I have to go there and get my candy "fix"!) :hungry:

I’ll answer the second question first-
NOOO!!!
I mean T loves 3v3, but we had no warning of this. We were told last night, received email today. Training for that tourney starts in a couple of weeks.. We already have other commitments during that time frame.

The meeting was volatile because there are some frustrated parents. Coach specifically named 2 boys who he thinks are the weakest players, blaming our ties and 1 loss on them. In front of ALL of the parents!!! It turned from everyone in a stunned shock silence.. to one of the boys parents losing her cool.. to the coach telling her that maybe she should voluntarily move her son down before tryouts since he will not be keeping on the team anyway.
it was so uncomfortable!! And unprofessional.

he said “I build winning teams. It’s not my responsibility to teach your kids fundamentals at this age. They should be doing that at home. Practice is basically a tryout for playing time. You can tell your kids that. If they sit, they know why. Playing time is not guaranteed. Maybe competitive soccer isn’t for everyone here. “

Finally another parent stepped in and said “With all due respect, these are 9 year olds, not your high school team. Kids need help learning a new position when they’ve been playing a different one for the past few years.”

Coach said, It’s not the position, it’s the player. I can see talent and if a kid doesn’t have it.

I think half of us were standing with our mouths wide open.

Not that I know anything at all about soccer, baseball, etc., but to play devil's advocate here -- "maybe" this particular coach has seen some genuine talent in T. Perhaps he feels that if T continues with him, T will excel. Perhaps he's just looking out for the best for T, and maybe the way he chose to deliver the message might not have been the best approach.

Obviouisly, the final decision is both yours and T's, not the coach's. But again, this was just a random thought I had.

he did also say that he can tell which boys are practicing outside of team training and which aren’t, and the way they practice, along with their attitude and huddle, will determine if they play for 4 minutes if a game, or longer. But will pull kids who make respective mistakes after corrected.

I actually understand all of that and agree.. but not 4 minutes at 9 years old.

I'm glad that I took piano lessons at T's age. No drama. ;) And actually, the piano teacher let us eat ice cream from her freezer (she taught piano at her home). There would be 4 kids in an afternoon, so while the other 3 waited, we'd chow down ice cream! We also watched TV to kill time there. It was fun. :D
