Trip Report That's OK- We Make Our Own Magic - COMPLETED

I've gone back and forth with myself over the last few months if I'd do a trip report at all since this wasn't the trip I envisioned, but I keep coming back to all of the photos I took and how it would be nice to share some of them. So, I guess I'm doing this. Still, I'm going to put this out there right now...there were a number of things that bothered me during our trip. Nothing was ruined or anything like that, but I am going to share both the good and the bad and it won't be sugar coated or pixie dusted. Still, it's been about 2.5 months since the trip, so some of my negativity has mellowed a bit too, so that'll help.

It's been a couple of years since I posted a trip report on here, so I'm a bit rusty with all of this. I didn't do one for our 2016 trip since it involved another Disney forum group and then we had a longer than average break from vacations because we went through a move. Yup, all that vacation money went into fun things like paint, carpet, etc.

First off...we moved out of our old house in late June, lived in a hotel (family of 4 plus a dog) for about a week and a half, and then moved into our new home in early July. About a month before the closing on our old house, my husband suggested we go to Disney for Christmas. We're not rookies and know this is not the ideal time for crowds and pricing, but it's what worked with everything else. Of course, this also meant I was dealing with 180 dining booking right as all of this moving stuff was hitting peak stress levels. Oh, and since my hubby didn't want me putting any $ into vacation stuff until we were in our new home, I didn't have the +10 luxury when booking dining. Nothing like being up at 4:45am CT for 8 days in a row as you're about a week out from a closing. We are also Houston area and live in part of town that was badly flooded by Hurricane Harvey, so there were a handful of days where I had to sit there wondering if we'd be dealing with more home things for our $ vs. vacation. We were very lucky and did not flood, but a week later, my family went through Hurricane Irma, so that was also super nerve wracking as well. Thankfully, everyone came out of that OK too, and it was pretty much smooth sailing until trip time.

So here are the details...
WHO: Me (Sandy), my husband David, my girls Samantha and Kendall...and for a portion of the trip, my brother, SIL, their kids and my parents.

38317552525_c152d9f71b_b.jpg

Yup, this is all of us just before being seated at 'Ohana.

WHEN: December 15th-24th (16th-23rd at WDW)
WHERE: The Swan...We knew we'd be between peak and holiday pricing for our trip, but after staying at POR in 2016, we decided we only want to stay Epcot area or monorail loop for future trips. I didn't feel like scaling back on our dining plans (a decision I'd regret), so I chose the Swan over a Disney resort. Even with all of the fees, the Swan's overall price per night was on par with the mods, but we got the great location, beds, and bigger rooms for the price.
WHAT: I bought 6 day single park tickets. While I do enjoy the flexibility with hoppers, I feel like we waste so much time hopping to justify the cost. So, we skipped them. We're also not DDP people, so it was OOP for us. My parents and brother are now APs, but decided TiW wasn't worth it to them after having it for a year, so we rely on passholder discounts and Disney Visa discounts for food.
HOW: Driving...it's a cost saver, but I've been asked that we fly for any future trips. I think everyone is kind of over the road trip.

So, if you've ever seen my past reports, you know I like a surprise. It's gotten to the point that the kids asked to be surprised. I knew they wouldn't be completely blindsided because I asked them for a bunch of feedback. So, this became more of a...you know it's coming, but you won't know when. At least planning things around the holidays makes it easier to have trip goodies delivered to your home without tipping them off.

I was excited for this one because I was finally going to get to do the surprise pick up at school. The kids go to different schools now, so it was a bit more challenging, but I was ready. It also helps that we celebrate both Christmas and Hanukkah and with Hanukkah starting a few days before our trip, I had a few days where I could work in trip goodies into their gifts without making them suspicious. Honestly, the biggest challenge was packing. I had to take some time off from work, add things to suitcases that are in the closets in increments that wouldn't raise any eyebrows and then pull it all together in the few hours of school on the last day before Christmas break. Easy..right? Oh, and the last Hanukkah gift before the trip was Disney gift cards, and as far as the kids knew, we'd be heading to go shopping after school let out for break so they could spend them. I just never said where we'd be spending them. LOL :hilarious:

Samantha was the first to get picked up, but they were having a holiday party and I had to get the car ready. So, David went into the party while I prepped the vehicle. It looked better in my mind that it came out, but it still worked. I had light up mouse ears on the head rests, light necklaces draped around them, Disney plush, and obviously all of the luggage in the back.

39042458612_aa3b9b9ff7_k.jpg

Unfortunately, I completely screwed up the filming of the surprise reveal for Samantha. That being said, it was great! We totally got her and she was so giddy. I did get Kendall's surprise, but she's not as much fun because she claims she had it all figured out.

I did still have one surprise still up my sleeve that would totally get her- more on that a bit later.

We hit really bad traffic getting out of our town since all of the schools were letting out for the holidays, but once we were out, it was a pretty easy drive. Unfortunately, with the later start, there was no way we were going to make our goal of getting to Tallahassee. We couldn't leave any earlier because Kendall had exams, so we'd have to settle for spending the night in Pensacola. We woke up bright and early the next day and started heading towards Orlando. I absolutely hate the drive through the FL panhandle, but it is what it is. We also hit really bad traffic on I-75 due to an accident right before the FL Turnpike, but we made it to WDW by just after 3pm.

This one's a bit better...

*********************************************************

So, that's it for now. I normally speed through my TRs, but I have so much going on with work, house stuff, kid stuff, etc. that this might actually take me a while...especially once I get into the bulk of the pictures. All of this so far was done on my phone, which is just ok, but I finally got a new camera and lens. So, I took A LOT of pictures. Are they all amazing? No, but they're much better. :)

I also accidentally picked Large sizing for the photos on this first post. I promise to pick a more normal size for subsequent posts.

Coming up...More of Dec 16th- check in drama and excitement, a room with a view, parking, and dinner/fireworks plans.

Still killing time with pics outside...

39275687251_217e3aa601_c.jpg

We decided to head in to check in for our "breakfast" ADR. At this time of day, you might as well call it lunch, but that's OK...if they did that, it would probably have "lunch" pricing. Sam immediately wants to check out all of the goodies for purchase.

I'm kind of mixed on this. On one hand, it's great for the parent who forgot princess gear, but to see it on these movable racks is kind of tacky. The CM also informed me that the shield and sword Sam is playing with is the only prince merch they were able to get in for boys. It's not even related to any of the characters with this meal! Considering how popular this meal (I had to do quite a bit of stalking to get it) and how Disney is known for a more polished presentation, it's surprising they haven't implemented something that's more polished. I mean, even some of the stuff I saw pop up outside of Akershus in the past was finessed much better than this. It's not a huge deal, I guess, but it just struck me as something that was off.

I decided to wander into Abracadabar wand Flying Fish while we waited. The kids (especially Kendall) were freaking out because they didn't think I should be in there.

And more of Trattoria's lobby...haven't been in here since it was Kouzzina. It's funny, my parents liked breakfast here before it was a character meal, but couldn't figure out why they hadn't been able to easily find ADRs for the last year or two. Ahhh...the lure of princesses!

It felt like we were waiting forever, but we did get there early. I want to say we were seated by about 11:35...so, not much past ADR time.

That's it for now. I have to write more for the upcoming pictures and things are kind of crazy right now (when are they not?), so it may be a few days before the next update. Thanks for following along :)

Glad you were able to wrap and get a better shoe one... I hope it made your day more pleasant!

So was I! It definitely was a huge improvement to everything with our day. I was afraid I was going to have to stay back at the room with the way things were going before this.

Woohooo...Happy Friday!!!

Dec 21st Cont-

When I last posted, we were waiting to be seated at Trattoria al Forno. I was looking forward to this meal for a couple of reasons. For starters, it's really the only character meal we've never done, so I liked that we were trying something new. This was also a surprise for Kendall. We went through a handful of years where she decided she was too cool for princesses. Then out of nowhere, Ariel becomes the greatest thing since sliced bread. I kind of loved this because Ariel hasn't been her #1 since she first discovered Disney princesses...and that's when she was 2! I am thankful that I no longer am asked to watch the Little Mermaid 3x a day, but I wanted to indulge this rekindled love with a surprise. Never having done this meal before, she didn't know to ask for it when she asked me for a princess meal. So, I had this up my sleeve until now.

So, we're finally seated and I take a few pics. I know from looking at my 2013 pics that they've made a number of changes since it was Kouzzina, but I still get a similar feel from it. I guess enough of the bones are still there.

We waited a bit for our server, but she was quick to bring us our pastries once she made her first pass by our table...

24413392637_cf6c6752a2_c.jpg

While the pastries were just OK to us, it's the first food we've really had all day and it's lunch time, so I think they could have served us just about anything at this point. Bonus points for serving them in a frying pan!

24413383347_32c50707c0_c.jpg

I really wish I could remember what this was all about...

24413389517_dbbe230996_c.jpg

It was clearly over by the next pic and I have no clue! I don't take notes...just let my pictures remind me of what happened...so, who the heck knows! LOL

24413388737_325fab2bd0_c.jpg

Rapunzel came out and made her initial pass through the dining room. They don't stop during this...so she's sort of a blur...

Up next...Fruit!

25408715228_821f60b9b8_c.jpg

Our server, who was really sweet and funny, but also a bit slow and frazzled spilled some of our fruit on the floor. We told her it was fine. I mean, it was only a few blueberries overboard, but she insisted on bringing us more.

I missed catching Flynn during his pass, but Prince Eric was next to make pass through the dining room...

25408714258_6fd1ff7de1_c.jpg

25408712428_077ebee478_c.jpg

Which is fine, because Flynn is now paying us a visit...

25408711288_157bed87f9_c.jpg

The kids were a bit awkward with the M&G. Flynn wanted to discuss them not getting his nose right, but the girls kind of clammed up when they were expected to respond. So, I came to the rescue and told Flynn that the girls felt their smolders were better. So naturally, the only thing you can do is have a smolder face off!

(Sam's about to lose it an bust out laughing)

And we've just moved on to regular smiles.

39246524142_9f952db0d1_c.jpg

Kendall clearly has no idea what goes into a smolder, but Sam clearly gave him some competition.

Rapunzel came by next and wanted to talk about dreams.

Time to pose...

Sam also got coffee with this meal...but it took a LONG time. Sam jokingly asked for coffee when we ordered, but our server wanted to indulge her and got all kinds of specifics on how she wanted it (her suggestion- not our request). So, it was for coffee with a lot of cream and a lot of sugar, and maybe even a hint of cocoa. I told her she didn't need to go to these lengths, but she told told me Sam could have anything she wanted and it's about making dreams come true. While we weren't quite on to entrees when we got it, we had been seated for close to 30 min and had to ask a couple of times to finally get the drink. Even she said she forgot to put in the order because she kept getting dragged in all different directions. She apologized and was super sweet about it. Obviously, not flawless service, but always much more forgiving of these things when people are honest and nice/fun about all of it and her dream statement tells me she totally gets it. And when it did finally arrive...Sam LOVED it!

39275990631_ebc8364c33_c.jpg

39275988601_9117af9651_c.jpg

The food came shortly after. We had a lot of struggles ordering. I knew exactly what I wanted, and David and K were pretty easy, but Sam didn't believe me that flapjacks were pancakes. I think she wound up getting the Mickey waffle (I guess we must be a bunch of liars). I never got a pic of David's, but pretty sure he had the Tangled eggs. I had the Shipwreck al Forno...

39275982371_9154ffa7b8_c.jpg

I couldn't pass up a breakfast calzone! I'm also guessing the tridents were getting stolen a lot, because they said they'd have to take it from me after I took my pictures. Unless people were battling with them and they had a spike in trident injuries? That could be a fun game...one person in your party becomes Ursula and you have to take them down. OK...maybe not.

Kendall was the one who had issues. The menu said her tower of pancakes would be filled with some kind seasonal of fruit, but when it came out with caramel apples, she just about lost it.

39275985481_2a406ca832_c.jpg

We all took a taste and informed her they were great, but she wasn't having it. There was nothing wrong with them...the menu clearly said fruit filled...and if she wanted to know what kind of fruit-she could have asked, so I wasn't going to trouble our server for anything special. We're working hard on teaching the kids that you eat what you ordered (unless there's something legitimately wrong with it)...and sometimes you make better decisions and choices than others. In this vein, we scraped the apples out of the middle and she ate the pancakes. Sam, on the other hand, enjoyed the apples.

25409229838_8293a6fb3f_c.jpg

Ariel showed up just after the food arrived. I expected more of a reaction from Kendall, but oh well...I tried.

I was also having fun making Mickey's with the chairs. Nobody else at the table could see it...

39276061181_0abc928057_c.jpg

It was getting late and we had FPs in Epcot for the afternoon, so we paid the bill. One last shot in the Abracadabar bathroom area before we head out...because bathrooms are magical too!

27500398759_916b902718_c.jpg

All in all, the Bon Voyage breakfast was fun and the food was decent for a character meal. I hate saying it that way, but when it's not a buffet, it makes me start thinking about the quality level at a place like Kona...which has shined for us on every visit. Still, while not up to Kona levels, this was decent and fun. Obviously, service was not perfect, but our server's personality made up for the bulk of that. I don't think we'd do it again, but it's really just because we're going to be changing up some things down the road that I'll get into at the end.

**************************************

I am going to try and post more tonight, but that's it for now. Coming up...we head back into Epcot for our FPs, shopping, and all of the change ups I made to our dinner plans. Thanks for following along.

This hat would become her other 'must wear' for the rest of the trip, but thankfully, she isn't wearing it everywhere at home. Still, it will pop up quite a bit in my pics from here because it's kind of large. If I can remember to keep up with it...I might just start adding in a tally of every time the hat shows up (unintentionally).

38568982784_8afcb4f476_c.jpg

I also decided it was time for something for me...

38568981094_38223ccd99_c.jpg

I didn't intend for the price to be showing...it just happened that way, but as you'll see...I came prepared. I initially looked at one of the Peter Pan bags because the lighting at the top of the display made one of the bags look gray. At least that's what the CM was telling me. Everything around it looked like it was a different white, but I'm sure she was right. OOAKs don't usually sit out inside shops like that. I loved the earhat print when it came out. I was hoping the messenger style bags were bigger since I have serious regrets over not buying a Paris messenger when it came out (and the ones that wind up on ebay are usually way more than I'm willing to spend on a Dooney), but the modern messengers are just too small to be a useful bag for me. While I have some smaller Dooney's, including a mini satchel, I don't own any full sized satchels...so, now I do! LOL And I got one with well placed Donald ears. I also had racked up quite a bit in Disney Visa rewards. I wish I'd thought about it sooner, but about halfway through the process of getting the old home ready for sale, I realized I should be charging the work we were doing (and paying it off right away) so I could get the rewards points. Between rewards and the Disney Visa discount, the bag was very little out of pocket for me. Of course David gave me the "another bag" look and commentary, but it was my souvenir! Of course, when my parents came to visit a few weeks ago, I got another Disney Dooney goodie to go with my "vintage' 40th bucket and that was also met with similar remarks. He just doesn't get it!

And we head out...

I took a few pics inside, but I relaxed for most of it since I took so many on the last ride through. While I do like taking pics, I have been so busy that I really didn't get a lot of time to play around with this camera prior to the trip. Heck, I didn't even bother bringing my tripod and remote shutter release for this reason. I even had several filters with me that I forgot about after a day or two. I expected to be more stressed by it since I really do like having the photo step by step, but it was oddly liberating to just relax into an attraction and be doing nothing else. I MAY have even closed my eyes a little...like a Judy Dench lullaby. It's OK...I go back to pictures right after. Still, I REALLY need to work on this because Sam is about to go into 6 weeks of tournament play (softball) and while I want pictures for posterity, I also need to get some good ones to work on form issues. She's a pitcher and being able to freeze her motion like this can be really helpful. OK...back to trip stuff...

25409172478_8be4275133_c.jpg

David and I also rode together and let he girls go on their own. I have no idea what I'm doing here either, but it looks like I have eaten a square peg. What's funny...at the end...the pixelation with my mouth will be gone, but the guy in the pic next to me still has it. Odd.

25409162298_001319422e_c.jpg

We get out and check out our pics. Not sure what happened to the kids', but Kendall was so furious that she wanted us to get someone to find them. While I really don't know what happened and if they could be retrieved, we encouraged her to just move on. She said it glitched during her future, but again, who knows what happened. I just wasn't in the mood and while I know it's disappointing, this kind of glitch is nothing in the grand scheme of things.

See...no peg looking pixelation in my mouth.

I don't think David was expecting us to want to check out the aquariums, but I hate missing out on the fishies, manatees and other creatures. I think this is why I was fine with this attraction before the Nemo revamp. Some of the my fave edutainment of the past.

But David's not...since we're in C again.

39276097851_e4f6a2bb18_c.jpg

We weren't as far off to the side, but far enough that it was all distorted again. I was watching a podcast the other day and with the changes to Soarin', nearly 70% of guests get an experience with some level of distortion. So, 2/3 of guests are riding with an inferior viewing angle. I know there are some who don't think it's a big deal, but I think it's completely unacceptable and pretty shameful considering Disney would have seen this in testing before opening. I know I ranted about it before, but it still bothers me that this is the state of things with an attraction that's been ultra popular (in it's original state as well as present) since day 1. This goes well beyond liking the old film better and all of the complaints about the fake look of the CGI landmarks and elements. And this is worse than any feet dangling above me. Sure, you can request to wait for a front row center spot in group B, but what happens when everyone starts doing that to ensure they don't have a bending Eiffel tower? Sure, we've been up in the real thing, but I'd still like a decent experience when I see it at Epcot too. David said he's done with this attraction until something is done to fix it...which may be never. End rant.

We stopped in Sunshine Seasons after this for a few drinks to discuss plans for the afternoon and evening.

39276095991_272e2d129e_c.jpg

39276094811_92c40abb97_c.jpg

Ultimately, this was not my original plan for the day. Originally, I had an early lunch ADR at R&C, a mid afternoon ice cream ADR at B&C, and a late dinner ADR at Teppan Edo. When I snagged Trattoria for the Bon Voyage breakfast, I dropped R&C. It wasn't until we were on vacation that the kids (shocking) said they'd rather play in the park than head to B&C for the kitchen sink...so I canceled that too. And if you remember back to our first Epcot day where I was trying to twist David's arm to go to Marrakesh...not only did I fail to twist his arm, he also decided he had no desire to go to Teppan Edo. Sam suggested pizza, but David and I both vetoed that after our dual metro mezzo fail at Via Napoli in 2016. I suggested French (I love French food), but he wrinkled up his nose and shook his head. No, he wanted steak.

I suggested Yachtsman...we like Yachtsman and it's close, but he vetoed it because he didn't feel like leaving the park. Ummmm...it's not like it's much of a walk from the IG, but he was being difficult. We didn't want Shula's since we have one here and we weren't up to skipping out to Disney Springs for STK or Boathouse either (not that any of those are closer than Yachtsman). I was able to get an ADR for Le Cellier, so I dropped Teppan Edo and picked that up instead. Obviously, this was also done a couple days before, so no issues with no show fees. I also didn't love this idea. Last time we were at LC, I thought it was grossly overrated, but it's now what's for dinner...so that would guide the rest of our day.

We had no other FPs booked at this time, so we just hung out at Sunshine Seasons and I took a few pics, including ones to admire my new pretty...

39276093941_49624f9681_c.jpg

We discussed booking another FP if I could find something OK. LWTL was up to a 25 min wait, so I went ahead and booked it just to do something. We had some time, so David ran off to check some stuff and take what I can only guess was his 150th bathroom visit during this trip, so we waited behind. During that time, I kept checking the app. Soarin' came up, but that was clearly a no. I kept refreshing it and eventually got a FP for Test Track with enough wiggle room before our ADR to make it work. When David got back, the girls played with him and said I "accidentally" canceled our FP....long pause (he looked confused but not concerned)...so we can use one for TT instead! Yeah...he wasn't nearly as excited as the kids.

So, we left the Land and started heading that way...

Thank you :) The whole cake thing took time and there's still so much to learn (and not sure if I'm inclined to put in that effort LOL). A lot of my friends, coworkers and even the kids' old after school program used to wind up with all kinds of test cakes so that I was ready when it was bday time. I've definitely had my share of cake wrecks too.

So, we're in Innoventions... I can't remember the last time we were in here. I don't know all of the ins and outs with how it all went when the Communicores were rebuilt into Innoventions, but it may have been back in the Communicore days when I last did something in Epcot along these lines.

We decided to play in Colortopia...

...but David was so frustrated mixing paint. It would only give credit for 100% matches and he wasn't able to get any of those. I, on the other hand, had several, but I also don't feel he sees colors as well...not to mention that it's not worth getting overly bothered with a silly color matching game. He's not color blind, but he doesn't see as broad of a range of shades. Of course, he won't admit that...and it's why my hallway is now several shades of beige darker as well as warmer than what he was supposed to get. LOL

Not sure how they'd do it, but I think there's a missed opportunity here. The Spectrum Song would fit so well into something like this and add more Disney magic to the attraction. I keep thinking it would be so fun if the brushes really could paint in plaid.

We then head to TT...

25409033588_4fbb95cae0_c.jpg

And Sam has this revelation that I put that shirt with those leggings because they kind of go. Imagine that! Not a perfect match, but close enough. And even better...the shirt was one of my mom's cheapo finds at their local Character Warehouse. Wish I had one!

It's funny...the ride feels so fast since you're accelerating from a low speed. I have to remind myself that morning and evening rush hour traffic flows about 20mph above this when it's not the awful bumper to bumper nightmare I encounter in some areas.

No pics, but I came in near the top for speed, but David's overall score smoked me...and naturally, he gloated.

After that, we took a nice brisk walk to Canada...

39247428072_e6871364d3_c.jpg

When we checked in, we saw two families being turned away for no ADRs and one who was told it was going to be 20-25 minutes (I cringed and worried we'd hear the same). We weren't given any time when we checked in, but we were seated in under 5 minutes. We were along the back in the far corner, which was fine. We just had a neighbor (not pictured) for a while who appeared to have given up on disciplining their child. So, I took pics of our children...

39247426992_26d09778bc_c.jpg

39247424972_7aa1715300_c.jpg

She obviously wasn't expecting this.

Cocktails were in order, so I had a Bloody Caesar...

24414297137_8e7f078e8d_c.jpg

David had something, but no clue what it was since taking a pic of the bread while grabbing some bread for me was far more important. Hey, I suggested he dip the pretzel bread in his soup, so I had to make sure I got some of my own before he took it all. It's OK...his drink will show up in the background of a later pic. PRIORITIES!

24414295017_a95a18a148_c.jpg

I said it last time, but I wish they would just bring a basket full of pretzel bread and do away with the others.

Took a couple more detail and kid pics...

24414290977_b432bd2f07_c.jpg

She looks so happy!

We also took a slightly different approach with ordering for the kids tonight. Rather than go for entrees, they put together appetizers and sides. This is Samantha's pork belly.

24414289617_6b415af5f8_c.jpg

I think we all agreed that this was the best thing brought to our table during this meal. And now Sam keeps asking me to make pork belly at home. It has yet to happen.

David and Kendall ordered the cheddar cheese soup.

24414287387_5081bf19ea_c.jpg

While I remember liking it when I had it last visit, it didn't solidify itself as a drool-worthy must have either. David and K both thought it was just OK and after taking a taste this time around, I wasn't wowed either. Still, this is bound to happen with popular menu items anywhere. Case in point, the goat cheese ravioli at Cali Grill gets mass raves, but I tried it once and I think there were visible question marks going off over my head because I just didn't get it. In any event, back to Le Cellier...

I had the Montreal poutine. The smoked brisket on top is great, but the rest was just meh. I didn't finish it and the kids, who normally love poutine, weren't too keen on it either.

38399496395_0b3338f17e_c.jpg

24414283287_18eab54314_c.jpg

27500584179_578eb87232_c.jpg

*David's drink trying to sneak in off to the left.

I liked my first drink better, but this would be so refreshing on a hot summer day.

Entrees came out next. I decided to give the filet another chance...

27500576219_bc1df3dfd0_c.jpg

This time, the risotto was divine. Even Samantha, who hates mushrooms, liked it. As for the steak...it's not a bad steak, but it's also not a high end fine dining steakhouse steak either. I tend to have a 'When Harry Met Sally" deli scene reaction if it's a top notch steak. LOL OK, that's pushing it a bit, but we'll just say this steak didn't cause me to have any kind of reaction that might turn heads. It's on par with the filets we can get locally at mid range steakhouses that are in the $20-25 price range. I know it's Disney and prices are grossly inflated, but it's kind of painful to pay $54+ for such an average steak. I guess at least it was cooked properly. I always order my steaks rare and I can't stand it cooked any longer. I know this is going to sound crazy, but I think I'd rather it be served raw over medium rare. So, I guess average and properly cooked is better than exceptional and overcooked.

David's steak, which I just couldn't photograph with the juggling going on around the table, was the rib-eye. It was hard for him to give a full review because they failed to prepare it properly.

27500579319_fe582c6966_c.jpg

(Such a lovely picture...not)

Ultimately, he ordered it medium rare and it was very clearly rare. It looked like my steak. I've seen medium rare, I've tasted medium rare...and as you probably guessed... I don't like it. I liked his steak, but ...oh wait...it's his steak! He was so hungry that he didn't want to get into the hassle of sending it back; however, he did alert our server who brought out a manager. I don't remember exactly how he put it, but he was clear that he wasn't asking for a refund/replacement. He showed the manager his steak and my steak... even had the light on my phone on them to illustrate the actual color (it's dim in there). The manager agreed that it was not cooked as ordered. I had someone in one of my FB groups refer to me as an entitled whiner over this steak blunder. I guess you could take that angle and I know mistakes do happen, but I don't think it's an unrealistic expectation to go into a signature steakhouse and get your steak cooked as you ordered it. Nor do I think it's unfair to think negatively of a higher end place if they get it wrong.

Kendall got the macaroni, which I actually like better than Yachtsman's raved about truffle mac.

27500574579_bc0d4747b6_c.jpg

She loved it too. I think it's because when I think mac & cheese, I really think about the cheeses involved and not a complimentary flavor like truffles. It's one of my favorite things to make and I have coworkers who beg me to bring mine in because it's so insanely cheesy. On a mac note, David doesn't get it, but I really want to give Art Smith's Homecoming a second chance (tried it in 2016 right after it opened). I had the mac there and it reminded me of what mac is like a day after it has been cooked and refreshed with more cheese and then reheated. Still, sooooooo many people love it and I love mac & cheese so much that I feel like I need to see if we had it on an off day before they worked out the bugs. OK...back to Le Cellier....

Sam got the traditional poutine, which she liked, but it was pretty light on the toppings. Basically, she had a lot of fries.

27500571589_f5f2292d0b_c.jpg

They brought by some magnets at the end to help make up for our troubles. I don't know...maybe everyone gets these and we just missed out on our last visit?

39276479141_378a6db7b0_c.jpg

While our sever was very sweet, attentive and some of the food was good, I think we're done with Le Cellier.

So, after dinner, we explore Canada a bit, and I find out that I like ferret farts more than the kids. Hey, all of those soaps in there are pure genius!

We looked around a bit and I really was tempted to buy some soaps for my coworkers. We always bring back some little vacation goodies for our team, but I don't think they would have loved the soaps the way I do...so I passed on them.
