News Test Track to be reimagined

You don’t know what I understand or don’t understand - I never claimed that there weren’t different levels of sponsorships. Obviously I don’t know any details.

My point is that if Iger (or other exec’s) wanted test track to be cars, he’d potentially throw away a sponsorship deal to get what he wants. Ala Mickeys
But this statement shows that you do not in fact understand.

Throwing away the GM sponsorship would be insane since they essentially pay to fund maintenance and operation of the pavilion. By comparison TCM paid a tiny amount that basically just got their name on the sign.

No coincidence that the contract end was coming up and GM wants something better out of the remaining of the ten-year contract duration. They foot the bill and Disney is happy to do it. I remember reading it is over a couple billion in sponsorship.

This, Country Bears and Zootopia will be the only realistic things that happen from the announcements a year or more away from being done projects.

Let's also not forget that all the WDO company cars are chevy/GM.

It's more than just the pavilion. Also, in a world of cost cutting its cheaper to have someone else pay for a refurb than to retheme it yourself.

So if Turner spent more money we’d have an updated movie ride instead of Mickey?

Did you miss my earlier post about this? It even quoted you!

TCM doesn't have millions and millions laying around to pay for a ride overhaul. It was more a partnership to have their name on the ride than a full sponsorship like Chevrolet; they're not really comparable. They weren't funding everything the way Chevrolet has funded Test Track since it was built (and paid to build it too).

I'm 99% sure that if WB Discovery (TCM's parent, since TCM couldn't) offered Disney $50+m to do an overhaul of the Great Movie Ride, Disney would have done it.

This. There are different kinds of partnerships. TCM was an ad for the love of movies hoping people would have the connection to their service and name.

GM sells cars off the lot in the post show with their name on the major attraction as well.

Is that a guess based on any knowledge though? (Not being sarcastic…. I don’t know if you have inside info)

No inside info, but considering TCM wasn't much more than putting their name on the ride, and Chevrolet paid for essentially everything since Test Track was first conceived in the 90s...

Also with this revamp they should 100% cover the outside portion so it can operate in rain.
That would be great. Enclose the entire outdoor portion so you can fly through the futuristic city. They should still leave the fly-by at the front of the pavilion open so we keep the kinetic energy

My memory, from the web must be true, TCM sponsorship $$ was used to improve film quality. I don't remember if they went to digital or just made new prints from the original.

It looks like from the concept art we are going to get physical sets/elements in the attraction and I think we can agree/hope for that. What if it was a ride through different biomes or terrain with physical and immersive sets? Obviously from Chevy they could speak to all terrain and weather no matter where you live. But the story and future tech is where I get hung up. Maybe to much like the Land living with the land and Soaring with cars.

Drive through forests/redwoods
Ocean Highway/coast/cape cod
Dessert/sedona
Everglades/swamps

Just give us something that is immersive and true Disney like. Not a cheap redo like 2.0

I know it's a downer mentality, but I don't trust this. All the rethemed EPCOT attractions in the past 30 years have dumbed down the edutainment component. I can't see this suddenly bucking the trend. I'd love to be surprised.

I don't think the redo was cheap at all
