News Test Track to be reimagined

I feel like they’ll have to turn off VQ on Guardians for the added capacity. VQ is capacity, but I’m guessing that line will be filled when it’s opened.
Eliminate the pre-show too. I went last week with a family who have never been. The majority of riders were repeats. In the teleport sequence, most went immediately to the right to go through the doors leading to the boarding area. It was ridiculous. Just send everyone straight through now.

I don't even understand why people do that. You get on a couple minutes faster at most.

And they should definitely not eliminate the pre-show.

why would it need to be a box? pretty sure a semicircle enclosure of just the outdoor elevated track would work perfectly fine to allow you to offer cover of that portion and not need to close down in rain

This. I would imagine that any enclosing of the track - assuming they keep the same basic layout - would be more of an arched tunnel like structure not an angular box.

Also, they could see allow for some "sides" to be open to the outside while still having it be covered (and not have to shut down in rain).

I told the family I was with to hold back. Once we went through that door, they understood why. It's a freaking bottleneck in there. We were the last to enter and had no one behind us ... until the next group that is. But by that time we were on the gangway in the next room and out of that corridor.

I think I already mentioned this earlier in the thread but enclosing the outdoor portion with a wrap-around screen could REALLY enhance this attraction.
The old "crash test" car could be another car you race. You stop at the line, the green light goes and you take off...the "crash test car" drives alongside you but you take the lead and head through the doors. The video screen shows the car racing you as you cruise along and then you finally win as you pass the finish line and into the final brake run into the building.
Thats basically Tron.

If that's the case, I'd rather not. We have enough massive box structures backstage in that part of the park and more importantly I don't want to see the front of the building covered up more than it already is.

Unfortunately, the reduced downtime is very, very enticing though.

I think it would be more like a tunnel around the track, not a whole new structure.

I agree that if they went the "new structure" route, that would be unfortunate.

EDIT: I see that others beat me to the punch on this clarification!

I think it's worth pointing out that the Mickey Views article claims this overhaul has a near-$100M budget. I'm extremely curious what kind of stuff they have planned if that number is accurate, because that's a ton of money to be throwing at a presumably light retheme of an existing attraction. I doubt they're going to enclose the loop, but if they are that might explain why it has such a huge budget.

A lot of money can be eaten up by deferred maintenance, and ride system/vehicle upgrades and replacements.

You would be surprised how much the last version change cost.

The original artwork showed driving through trees with fake sunlight. Taking Test Track into where you are driving through various climates or scenes could be a lot of fun with a focus on how technology allows the drives to be enjoyable.

There really are outdoor test tracks. So it can obviously be changed to this theme.

I know this is not a popular point of view, but spending money on Test Track and leaving SSE and Imagination as is should be criminal.
On the contrary, I think might be quite a popular view! The thing here though is that the Test Track refurb is not being paid for by Disney. We can't expect Chevrolet to pay for upgrades to SSE and Imagination instead of Test Track. What might be more relevant and controversial though is doing JoW, the central hub, building Communicore Hall after first demolishing it, instead of refurbing SSE and Imagination. And Wonders of Life.

And we all know Disney just hasn't had any free cash to do anything lately. But on October 1, 2024, the magical money spigots will open and they'll suddenly have billions and billions to spend!
