Based on our experience with one in Orlando a few years back, we won't ever touch a plug-in hybrid. The battery charge ran out within 50-60 miles of charging (A 3/4 charge took 2 hours). Maybe because it was a Chrysler and a minivan? Either way, that experience stained plug-in's for us. We'll stick with our CRV hybrid.

Net profit at the Box Office is not the only measure that Disney uses (and it shouldn't be the only measure of a movie).

Disney has had movies take in hundreds of millions of dollars at the BO, but failed to make a profit because of how expensive was that movie's budget. So, while losing money in the theatrical window, the movie could still be popular and well received. And then more so once it hits streaming.

Disney has the stats as to how a movie is doing on streaming, so, it know its popularity. E.g., Encanto "bombed" at the Box Office, but then become a cultural phenomenon, and is going to have its parks-presence vastly increased.

Going by BO profit, there wouldn't be rides for TRON, or PatF, or Tangled shows on cruises.

Yes, there are some movies that failed both at BO profitability and in popularity. But BO profitability has never been the sole measure of an IP's park-worthiness.

I'm kinda surprised that a Test Track 'refresh' isn't using movie IP (ie., Cars).
But the difference is all of the movies that weren’t profitable last year are just clear misses. Encanto, Tron, And PatF will all have rides for three different reasons… none of which will ever apply to the movies released in 2023.

I fully expect screens and an overall downgraded experience. Less on Fun Factor, Less on Speed, Less on pretty much everything. God can we get Michael Eisner back :banghead:

How many reimaginings have resulted in a better ride? I don't know if I can think of one. The 1.0 to 2.0 version of TT was a downgrade except for getting rid of the migraine inducing queue.

At DL, plenty. Buena Vista Street at DCA is a thousand times better than Sunshine Plaza. Snow White’s Scary Adventures was better than the much scarier Snow White’s Adventures (Snow White’s Enchanted Wish, I’m not so sure about). Dumbo 2.0 was twice as good as Dumbo 1.0. Adventureland Treehouse is a big upgrade from Tarzan.

In my opinion, Star Tours has consistently gotten better with the addition of each new “destination.”

Star tours 2.0 in Disney world is definitely an improvement. Even though I was always a big Rex fan. After that, I'm struggling to think of anything that was even equal, let alone better in the Florida parks.

I think the current version of Kiliminjaro Safaris is better than the original, even though I wasn't happy about the change until I actually experienced it without the story.

The anti-poaching story was an admirable idea but in retrospect it actually detracted from the overall experience. The live animals functioned like set dressing and you didn't get to really take them in the way you do now.

I believe Tony Baxter was heavily involved in Star Tours 2.0 (might have been the final substantial project he had a hand in), so that probably explains some aspects of its success. They were also smart to lean into the prequel locations here. For all the mockery those movies get, one of the things they did exceptionally well was the environment design. A lot more interesting planets to draw on compared to the original trilogy. Converting it to 3D was also a cherry on top.

That said, I will note the character intrusions they later added from the sequel trilogy are a bit of an ugly blemish on the attraction.

This is a much older example, but I love the 1994 revision to Spaceship Earth. As iconic as Walter Cronkite is, Jeremy Irons had the best and most soothing voice of all the narrators MO. Best version of the descent by far as well. I sometimes miss Tomorrow's Child as a classic EPCOT piece, but the Bach arrangement they replaced it with is absolutely gorgeous. Especially when played alongside the spectacular fiber optic future city.

But even the Cronkite version was itself a replacement and improvement of an existing version of SSE that was first narrated by Vic Perrin. That original version apparently didn't have music.

That's fair. I personally liked the story but to each their own. I liked the collapsing bridge, the little chase... It added a little something extra to it, I never really found it distracting.

I liked the story too -- that's why I originally wasn't happy that they were removing it.

If you really just want to see the animals, though, the current version is significantly better. I was surprised that I liked it so much more.
