Incline Smoke Effect - Working
Knock down cone during break test - Working
Screens comparing abs and non - One worked, one didn't
Corrosive robot - Both working
Cardboard Dude from Truck - Missing

It appears Disney is finally realizing it needs to fix all of these broken effects in attractions in order to keep up with Potter. This was a great start. Several of these effects have been broken for a while. Now we need some attention at Dinosaur and Everest...

Thats great news! I was just reading on another thread how many of those effects were broken on TT. Hopefully they will dust the queue area too.

Remember back in the day right before the barrier test when that car would move and then "crash" into the barrier, tricking newbies into thinking the same thing is about to happen to them? I used to love that effect. Wish they would restore that one, but i doubt because the current effect is set up to give a similar vibe but its nowhere near as cool.

I can say that the last time I went on it early last month, a lot of effects were not working. One of the brake tests tv screen was off, and the screens in the cars were a hit or miss, and some audio was missing.

The queue actually looks pretty good. They've done a pretty good job of keeping Test Track's appearance up since it's the most popular ride at Epcot (slaps the face of Soarin'). Now if only the same could be said of Mission: SPACE...

I believe I remember seeing that effect in 1999, it was really nice. few years later and didnt see it and wasnt that "thrilled" you could say.

unfortunately it appears the "barrier car" is long gone. It was replaced with an already smashed car last time i checked. If this is gone, perhaps that's something to be excited about(fix it disney)

I didn't really appreciate this attraction until I watched Martin's video about the incredible engineering and development that was involved. It's very sad that Disney would allow minor effect maintenance issues to spoil the impact of that effort.

I believe the effect is that you hear the car screeching, then you turn the corner, hear the crash, and see the car sort of "jolt", as if it just crashed into the wall. I don't think it actually moves distance, though, just the crashed car sort of shaking. An older effect, though, may have been first. I have no clue!

The original barrier test effect was that you actually *saw* the other vehicle (a small 2 or 4-door compact car) crash into the wall. As you turned the corner, it rolled into the wall and the nose of the car crumpled in on itself. That was when you turned and saw the barrier you were heading for.

It was more of a low-speed crash test than the supposed high speed crash you "just missed" as it is now.

My guess is that there were reliability issues with the effect (you'd sometimes just saw it stationary in its crashed position).

One effect I never saw operational myself was the sparks from the truck avoidance maneuver.

EDIT: Here's a video with the original effect:

In addition to the visual and sound, there was also a big blast of air in your face when it hit, as if from the impact of the crash.

I don't ever remember the original barrier test car. That disappoints me. I'm also disappointed that Lyndon Johnson is gone from the car.

I really don't understand why TT is considered such a great ride. I've ridden it several times and I always leave extremely underwhelmed. The only part I even consider fun is the high speed loop. The ride looks so much more fun on the videos they show than it really is.

I really, really wish they'd just shut it down and completely re-imagine and plus that ride. I know they won't, but I'd love to see it happen.

I feel the same way. THe first time I went on Test Track I was pretty disappointed. The high-speed loop is as fun as it gets; I feel like if I wanted to experience all the things they do, I'd just go drive around like a maniac.

Those effects are fixed every year about this time, as well as late fall. It's part of routine maintenance, even though they do break down quickly.

Biggest peeve I have had with TT lately has been the static and high pitched buzz from the onboard audio and video. :dazzle:
