Tangled the Stageshow to DHS??

I think it would be bittersweet to see BATB go. It has a long run which would be a shame to break, but at the same time, it's been twenty years since the film was released and it's also getting a permanent addition to the MK. Tangled is unique and would be a much anticipated addition to DHS. It would be great especially in the area of the park that BATB is in since it hasn't received a family friendly addition since Fantasmic opened.

BATB could always return later should Tangled not find the same success. I think the show has run its course and while it would be sad to see it go it's time to move on to something new and fresh.

Another option would be to flip flop Aladdin and BatB for a while and rotate them so guests on both coasts can have a different experience every couple of years. It would also allow Disney to renovate the BatB theaters to accommodate Aladdin and give it some high tech stuff (and make it indoors).

May not be directly to do with tangled but the latest rumbling is that The BATB Theatre will be going down for An Extensive refurb right after the holidays....

Anyone hear or read anything about this??

Would make sense based on the upcoming release of Beauty and the Beast in 3d. Still can't picture it being replaced, but I know that Rapunzel is their cash cow right now from a merchandise standpoint.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I would prefer to see BatB replaced with a Princess & the Frog show. I LOVED the music in that movie and to me, it's gotten a bad rap.

However, I also have to qualify my preference with PatF versus Tangled in that I've never seen Tangled so I am not familiar with the music or the movie.

Either way, however -- and as much as I enjoy BatB -- it is time for it to be replaced with something fresher.

Judy :)

PATF should replace Mermaid!

Princess and the Frog - worldwide box-office gross - approximately $265M
Tangled - worldwide box-office gross - approximately $585M

Princess and the Frog - US DVD sales - approximately $75M
Tangled - US DVD sales - approximately $95M

numbers don't lie.

I'd be curious to see the numbers for merchandise sales for the two different princesses as well....I'd hazard a guess, based on the above numbers plus personal experience, that merchandise sales for Tiana themed mercy isn't even a fair fight when put up against Rapunel themed stuff.

I really hope that Beauty and the Beast gets replaced. It's a shame that with a multi-millions grossing stage version of Beauty and the Beast, WDW puts on this lame, mostly lip-synched version. I would barely even call this theatre. The dancing is good, but it's ridiculous that the Enchanted Objects and Beast aren't singing roles, particularly when they created such a wonderful version for Broadway.

I think Princess and the Frog would work much better in TotS. The jazz music would fit much better with the overall period of the area around the theatre. PatF also has eight songs in the film, whereas Tangled only has four. Princess and the Frog could do wonderful things with puppets as the frogs. I feel that Tangled would be especially hard to stage in an outdoor theatre as the climactic lantern scene would lose all of its oomph.

I really wish they would keep Beauty and The Beast and Little Mermaid but do some updates...Though they have been there for quite some time and they are getting their respective lands at MK. If they replaced them with Tangled and Princess and the Frog, I might be okay with that...

Honestly i enjoy both BATB and Little Mermaid but their shows should move to MK with their land and Tangled would be a great replacment choice.

Am i the only one who thought that Tangled was absolutely horrible? It felt like a Dreamworks production with all of the horribly corny jokes that were thrown in at a lame attempt of comedy. I was extremely bored while watching it.

I would be sad to see them replace Beauty and the Beast with Tangled. Sure BATB is dated but in my opinion it should never be touched.I really enjoyed Tangled, it was by far the best Disney film in years but it really can't come close to replacing BATB. Leave BATB alone and just add an additional show.

You took the words right out of my mouth!

I think Tangled was a cute movie, however I don't think it has what it takes to become a successful stage show. One of the reasons BatB and Mermaid have had such staying power is due to the number of musical numbers in them and the quality of those songs. I personally do not believe Tangle has what it takes musically to hold it's own. They would need to write additional songs for the production. I am not sure how children would handle hearing songs they were not familiar with or have previously associated them with the movie.
I know many will say they wrote additional BatB songs for Broadway... this is true...however the performances I attended had an overwhelmingly adult audience.

While I by no means thought it was a horrible film, I know what you mean. It did have Dreamworks "feel" to it.
That being said, I, like others, personally identify with Rapunzel, so I loved the film in that respect and wouldn't be opposed to a stage show at DHS. Although music wise I would prefer PATF. I've listened to that soundtrack one too many times :D

I'm with you on that. While PatF might not have been as successful, from a musical standpoint it is a superior movie. That New Orleans Jazz that the film carries with artists like Dr. John would translate much better for me with a stage production in DHS.

I do think that the BatB stage show needs to go. It was really great but I think its finally hit its stride.

Princess and the Frog would work better than Tangled, especially with all of Rapunzel's hair....

I did like Tangled much better to be fair, but the music in Princess and the Frog is very catchy and practically begging to be staged.

I think it's a great idea! How long has BatB been there? Especially since BatB is getting its own corner in MK, it would be a good idea to switch it out with a new show.

I didn't really think of this...but now that you said it I totally agree. BatB is getting a lot of attention in MK. It would be nice to have a different story told and experienced at DHS. It needs something new. On that note, but really unrelated to this thread, I have to admit I was a little bummed/suprised that they are already adding to/changing AK that significantly when DHS has been in need of some very significant changes for awhile. I guess I'll just have to hope that they have big plans to it too...:veryconfu

I would love this, actually. The current show is sooo dated.

I totally agree. I actually just saw this for the first time last month (i know)...and it sticks out like a sore thumb when you compare it to the other feature based shows in WDW. So dated, looks like a show that would be in a Six Flags (sorry!) :lookaroun

I wish they would bring back the Hunchback musical. That show was absolutely fantastic and blew BATB out of the water.

And I agree - while Tangled is much more marketable, PATF has much better music and would translate better to a stage show.

God bless the "Ignore" button.
BatB - SOO dated, especially with the great Broadway-scale show. I think this is one of the weakest parts of the parks.
Tangled - I saw some elements of the Dreamworks-ness to it, but think it'd be a good replacement. "Mother Knows Best" is one of my favorite Disney songs.
PatF - I love Newman, but I was underwhelmed by the music in the movie. I think it would have done better with Menken.
Hunchback - Obviously my favorite, but I'm holding out for the German stage production to make its way over state-side. :)
