Survivor Caramoan: Fans vs Favorites

And here's the best ever from when the Jury addresses the finalists. And it happens to be from the first Survivor ever:

Nothing has ever matched this one, but some have had a good amount of venom.

P.S. - As I was re-living this, It hit me. Susan Hawk looks a lot like Brett "Hitman" Hart.

I'm glad you put that video up. I had the same thought, that Susan's rant is the best example how how awesome the jury questioning part of the show can be.

Like I said above, Phillip will do something highly amusing. Whether he's on the jury, or ends up as one of the finalists.

I didn't hear him say anything about first member of our Jury. There isn't any Ponderosa footage out on cbs.com yet, so I'll have to say she's just out and not on the Jury.

Yeah, complete bonehead move. She had nothing to gain from blurting out her 'next plans' and listing out all her players. The only benefit at that point would have been to try to swing Dawn's vote now to get the majority.. but even that was unnecessary.

She blew it for herself.. by being overconfident and flaunting to someone when she didn't need to.

She should have taken Phillip's split vote as the opportunity to make her alliance the majority vote.

If the favorites thought they had an 8-4 advantage or higher.. their max votes would have been 4. They might have counted on being able to win a revote because fans would have had a max of 2 votes in a revote.

But if they let phillip setup a 4 vote max... then the alliance of 6 would have easily blindsided the original favorite alliance AND had a majority. The split vote should have been a GIFT.. but instead she missed the opportunity.

and counting on eric so fully was kind of dumb when they were already talking like they knew he was a fake. I mean they didn't have a lot of other choice.. but maybe they could have worked him harder.

Holmes: Phillip?
Kaplan: I say this to my friends all the time, and I hope this isn’t too harsh, but I call him the living miscarriage. He shouldn’t have been born.

wow :)

Yep..sucks she's not going to be on the Jury. I would have loved to see her and Philip at Ponderosa.

Yeah, pretty brutal statement. But the other stuff she said about him is pretty spot on, about him having a low IQ. Phillip likes to use big words because it makes him seem smarter. But, like Corinne said, he mispronounces them all the time which gives away his stupidity.

I really hope Phillip makes it to the end as a finalist. That way, we all get to enjoy all the jury members taking turns telling Phillip what a crazy a--hole he is.

ew.com has a deleted scene of Cochran. He talks about how Philip is the perfect person to take to the final 3. He's annoyed everyone who's left in the game and will not get any votes.

That goes without saying at this point.
I think Hitler and Bin Laden would do better in the final vote than Phillip would.

I'm so happy it's Wednesday! I keep thinking back to how Cochrane said (something like) when you're on the island, every day is Wednesday night. Made me think - would anyone here actually want to go on Survivor? I would not.

I'm with you. As much as I love watching the show, I wouldn't want to actually do it. Aside from the physical misery you have to endure for a small chance at winning, I don't think I have the ability to play the social aspect of the game very well. I have very little ability to put up with people's bull&$@t, and I'm just not a very good liar.

I think I could do well with the social game - I have a pretty high tolerance for annoying people (to their faces). I would NOT deal well with the starvation aspect. I can't make it to a late lunch without getting lightheaded. But I think the worst of it for me would be when they get cold and wet. Not to mention I get NASTY when I am uncomfortable so I think I would be one of those "flipped out and got voted out" crazies.

I'm over the idea of the jury deciding the winner myself. The jury has zero motivation to reward the player based on game play... only who they liked or disliked for their own reasons. This leads to far too many scenarios of 'we vote for our old alliance' or 'you were a dick.. so I don't care how much you dominated.. I won't vote for you'

When Russell dominated the game in EVERY facet except winning challenges (which was intentional to avoid) and 'making friends'.. and got stone walled at the final.. that just painted it crystal clear.

Survivor shouldn't be won by who made the best friends - it should be about who worked the system in the game the most to get to the end in the most impressive way.

But, isn't Survivor at its heart about the social aspect, making friends?
It could be argued that making the most friends is the ideal way to "work the system", as you said.

I'm curious, what would you suggest as an alternate method of choosing the winner?

My favorite jury member question ever was not a question at all, but the speech that lawyer guy made to the rest of the jury regarding Boston Rob's play, summarized as "this guy played the best strategic game ever and I don't care if you're mad at him because he hurt your feelings - it's a GAME and he deserves to WIN."

Too often the jury is just mad because the finalists lied to them at some point.

It would be interesting to see the field narrowed to a final two, have the jury vote, then *a surprise twist* - have those two compete in a series of challenges over the course of the next few days - strength, endurance, balance, mental and eating gross stuff - with each win counting as a vote in their favor. So the final tribal isn't actually the last day - and they have to then go back to camp! Then going into the live reading of the votes, there would already be 5 votes cast according to the winner of the challanges and then Jeff would just continue the count from there.
