This whole James Gunn returns decision started occurring months ago over multiple meetings. Bautista got what he wanted and quieted down politely as soon as he was asked.

I see no real risk of his non-return, especially since he was technically 'in the right' on the side of which way the decision blew.

I guess we'll see how well the movie does. Obviously he doesn't agree with Disney and how they handle things politically. I think if the movie is huge, Disney will pony up the cash. I'd be surprised if he turn down a big payday. Now if the movie significantly under performs, then I see a change of guard.
