You know that history tells the story pretty famously of why we got the 13 month build, right?
It had nothing to do with people thinking MK was a half-day park - which it decidedly wasn’t.

Marni was talking about the history of WDW's Pirates.
When MK opened, pirates was not installed. The original plan was to build the Western River expansion instead after a few years, which would include a boat ride the scale of DL's pirates, themed to the wild west and Western expansion.
Unfortunately, people were very upset that WDW didn't include pirates. So much so that Disney decided to build Pirates as a rush job (the 13 months) so they could fix the park's capacity issues.
This version is shorter, smaller, and missing quite a bit of content. The cost of this, however, ate out the budget for the Western River expansion and effectively cancelled that project.
The designs were re-used for Big Thunder Mountain.

I knew all of that about Pirates.
I thought when he said the quote was 13 months rather than a 3-year project, I thought he was referring to whatever is planned to replace SGE.

I do not know that story.
i do know a lot of people complained there wasn't enough to do before pirates and space mountain opened.
No, people complained there was no Pirates of the Caribbean ride like they’d heard about in Disneyland. People power got it built in Orlando.
Through 1973 Guest Relations cast had to wear buttons saying “Pirates coming Dec 73” to placate the complaints.

Yes, I noticed this after the big refurb they did a while back where they upgraded all the audio. Maybe two years ago? Also the jail scene pirates on the right are now audible since that refurb. Prior to that hadn't been able to hear them for a long time.
