Star Wars Weekends discontinued at Disney's Hollywood Studios

So there will be some construction by May?
Otherwise, I don't quite get why they would discontinue SWW for 2016, rather than 2017.

Why???

Essentially why can't the parks just be well done and well run so we all can enjoy that all year-round? I'm sorry but I am just not a big fan of "special events." If they are so special integrate it into what you do and make it good. This is what they are doing with SWWs. They can still bring in a "guest/cast member" appearance at given times.

Agreed it would be nice if they did the "special events" all year. So you could do the stars wars weekends type stuff any time you are there. I doubt they will do all that stuff all year long though. The park wouldn't feel the same if they did. I go 3 to 5 times a year. Most of time during the special events. IE Christmas, Halloween, Star Wars weekends, food and wine. We really enjoy the parks during those times. Totally different experience and trips during those times. Not everyone is same but to us its nice to have certain special things you do once a year there. Its nice to see people dressed up and see others there just for that event. Fun talking to them in line, because they are there for same reasons. If its there all time then not special.. Its just part of park everyone does everyday. Its fine you would like it all year long but to some special events are why they go.

WOW I did not see this coming. While I am not a star wars fan I do enjoy the festivities. But I am can only imagine we will see an extended version of Frozen at HS - YUCK!

I was the opposite. I already thought SWW were gone because Season of the Force. Had no idea this was not announced yet. I guess just an assumption on my part.

I wonder if a convention sort of thing for the regular SWW events such as interviews with the cast, Merchandise etc. could be done at one of the Convention centers onsite such as the Contemporary, the Yacht Club, Boardwalk etc. Now THAT would be something I might consider paying for to attend. Granted there wouldn't be the fireworks, but most of the other entertainments could be replicated or adjusted to fit. Thoughts anyone?? @Master Yoda ?? Marie

There's absolutely no reason to think any in-park construction will be taking place by May.

Personally, I think that excuse is a bunch of bunk. It's the same thing as Backlot Tour closing a year before any work was to begin.

Only thing I can think of is that the new entrance work and parking lot construction will begin and they're afraid they won't have the parking infrastructure available to meet the demand.

I imagine/hope we still get a Star Wars Weekends once construction is complete in order for them to have special celebrity meet and greets/501st, etc. Even with Star Wars Land, I would think the financial influx it creates far exceeds any costs associated with it.

I'd hate to think we've seen the very last of that type of event.

I didn't think so from what I have been reading, but I figured I may have missed something.
I'm glad there will be some new Star Wars related things in HS (I'm really going to try to make a trip in May) which will somewhat make up for the loss of the Star Wars Weekend, but I do question why it needs to not be held in 2016, unless some work is going to be happening.

Wasn't it reported that construction is set to begin in 2016, by both Disney and by users on here?

Yes, but not in-park that soon. Most would be confined to backstage and infrastructure (parking, entrance drive, etc.) the first portion of the year, if anything.

This screams of a cost-saving initiative (not unlike closing Backlot Tour a year before it needed to be).

I certainly understand them not holding the weekends depending on the level of construction the park may be undergoing by May.
I was under the impression not much of anything would be happening by then.
We'll see.
Personally I would actually like to see them breaking some ground. It'd make missing the SW weekend more understandable.

If they are referring to the Launch Bay, a new villain at the Jedi Training academy and a few new clips in the Star Tours attraction, that wasn't exactly what I had in mind when I first heard about Seasons of the Force. That certainly wouldn't be enough of a draw to get me to go to the park unless I was already there, and certainly wouldn't take me all day to do. Is that all we know about at this point? Marie

Not much at all has been released about Season of the Force from what I have seen at least...other than the fireworks as others have mentioned.
