Star Wars Weekends discontinued at Disney's Hollywood Studios

I'm honestly not surprised by this. Disney wants people to think of Hollywood Studios as the place to go to experience Star Wars all the time. Having specific, designated "Star Wars Weekends" might leave the impression that those are the only times of year to do the Star Wars stuff. Given all the new things they are rolling out beginning almost immediately, it makes sense for them to do away with the special event weekends.

Oh and this finally solves the branding issues with the 501st. Rather than address it head on with the bad publicity it would bring this just makes the problem go away

Agreed! I think they should have been ready with Season of the Force details/ dates
Yes, who is in charge of their marketing? Everyone knows you lessen the blow of bad news by coupling it with good news. "We are canceling SWW because the park will be a construction mess next year" sounds much worse than "We will no longer be offering Star Wars Weekends and will instead transition to Season of the Force on xx dates with x, y, and z as new offerings."

I'm betting they are waiting for something. No insider information, but just a guess. Last year almost every blog post was about "this is closing," "that is closing." But this year they've been better about announcing closures as after-thoughts in the final paragraph of blog posts about new things coming. When they finally announce Seasons of the Force dates, I wouldn't be shocked if comes with announcements about what's leaving Studios at the start of the year.

^this. Exactly my train of thought. But I'm betting Seasons of the Force is the last big "new thing coming" announcement they have and they still have more closures coming that they need to couple with some amount of good news.

I can't wait for everyone's shocked and upset statuses about all those construction walls that will be at DHS. I want something new - but not being built on my vacation!

Have to rethink our trip we had plan in for may 21-30.. Trip had a lot to do with being there for two weekends of SWW. Plus the 24 hour party that has been during that time to. I was just about to start booking it since was coming up on 180+10 in next few days. Atleast they let us know before 190 days. Maybe they will have some other special event during that time? maybe at epcot or something.. Need some type of extra event to do than normal park stuff during that time.

I only went to this a few times (not a huge SW fan), but a good friend of mine is a HUGE fan...to the point where he dresses up and participates in the parade every weekend, every year. I'm sure he's going to be bummed about it...along with his legion (I think that's what they call it).

Wow. Just Wow!!!! I was talking about this with a friend this weekend actually, and I hope that with all the closures etc. that the Seasons of the Force items deliver and in a big way. If not, this is going to be a problem. Too many things being closed at once ( or closed previously and nothing done with them) and elimination of crowd favorite items such as SWW, just doesn't seem like a smart move IMHO. Marie

Why???

Essentially why can't the parks just be well done and well run so we all can enjoy that all year-round? I'm sorry but I am just not a big fan of "special events." If they are so special integrate it into what you do and make it good. This is what they are doing with SWWs. They can still bring in a "guest/cast member" appearance at given times.
