SPOT on video! Made me think of many of the "complaints" I have been seeing towards the last jedi.

That was hilarious! She pretty much sums up a lot of my feelings on the matter and made some points I hadn’t considered. So thanks for posting that. But that giant porg though! Holy cow! If either one of my kids see one of those there will soon be at least 10 of them roosting in my house. No one show them please!!!

Top Domestic Movies all-time by tickets sold. Gone with the Wind still #1. Amazing when you consider the US population was less than half vs. today.

Before TV, VCRs, DVDs, and streaming. Movies like GwtW were rereleased often. Some of Disney's early feature films didn't turn a profit until later rereleases.

An interesting metric, probably impossible to ascertain, is total number of viewings in any format. E.g., Fantasia didn't do too well in theaters, but wound up being one of the top VCR releases.

I’ve always thought this was a great metric and yeah it is still mind blowing how many tickets Gone with the Wind sold. Part of the reason is that it’s just harder for people to do repeat viewing of movies these days when it’s gotten so expensive. And we’ll never have the same cultural phenomenon that a new movie can have now when we are flooded with different forms of entertainment and ways of accessing it compared to the good ol days. But neither of those things take away from how cool/impressive that chart is.

Whether you liked the movie or not, I think you have to give a lot of credit to Rian Johnson with the way he's been out in the press. It's nice to get discussion of why things are the way they are in the movie, instead of waiting for a coffee table book to come out in ten years.
I can't tell you how many articles and/or videos I've come across with titles like, "TLJ director explains this" or "TLJ director explains that". Pass.
IMHO, he made a very lengthy SW movie and didn't explain very much in it. Thus his explanation tour. Sounds like a poor director to me. And he's the one Disney has picked to head up more post IX SW? I have a bad feeling about this.

No
No he is having to go around explaining things because the loudest voices are the one that can't come to terms with the way the movie went compared to how they wanted/expected it and when it didn't Lucasfilm doesn't know what its doing Kathleen Kennedy needs to be fired Disney is going to go down hill from all the lost sales etc etc its all very yawn inducing to listen to the same people bleet on about the same things over and over again because they can't accept what Lucasfilm has done.

I think this pretty much sums it up.

The highlights, or low lights, from Mark Hamill himself...
"It doesn't matter if it's good as long as it makes money."
“He’s not my Luke Skywalker...”
"I said to him, Rian, the Jedis don't give up."
"I disagree with virtually everything you decided about my character."
"I said to Rian, I'm so surprised how you see Luke."
"It's only a movie. And if you think your're going to go into the movie and recapture your childhood you're setting yourself up for disappointment."
"I saw TFA the first time at the first screening he (George Lucas) was at. When I saw him I gave him a hug and whispered in his ear, 'It will never be the same.'"

Everything he said was right.
