Or it's opening day staff having absolutely no clue how to pace the line yet on its first day of operations. It goes the other way too. I've stood in a Slinky line that said 40 minutes and took about 90.

This. It's likely the simple result of they have no idea yet how to really gauge the wait right from open. I assume they installed the tech to scan cards and get a more accurate picture?

We went to Disney 4 years in a row in October, the reason being the kids get a few days off for those holiday. 2016though2019almost walk on lines every year. The kids days off from Oct Holidays apparently does not effect lines much.

I had a friend text me why are we in Disney now with kids off and I was in line at at Space Mountain and texted her this

50th will effect October, but normally a great time to go.
To be fair, aren't those switchbacks always empty nowadays (and back in 2018 with FP+) even if the line is far down the space tunnel? They need to keep them clear for folks coming down the fast pass lane so they don't wait in them.

Smugglers Run is a pretty lame ride though. It’s a one and done for most people. I would dare say that Star Tours is a better ride due to the randomization. If you didn’t actually sit in the cockpit of the millennium falcon, it would be considered one of the worst rides in the park. If they were smart they would change the video to the ones used in Star Tours and keep it randomized. That would be an excellent way to allow you to leave Batuu and go to the places in the Star Wars universe that people love, not to mention in the millennium falcon. They could then completely retheme Star Tours to a different IP and have all of the Star Wars in the one land.
I don’t think Smugglers is redeemable unless they drop the interactivity element, and even then I don’t think it would improve that much. Star Tours is MUCH more exciting and enjoyable then Smugglers. And here’s a real controversial take - the ride portion of Fast & Furious, while deeply stupid, is also more fun then Smugglers.

Looking at the user submitted times on the TouringPlans app, a sample of posted vs actual wait times for RotR are:

12:30pm Posted 100min, actual 71 min
2:45pm Posted 60min, actual 24 min
3pm Posted 60min, actual 20 min

Those last two are INSANELY over-inflated. WOW! I truly feel bad for people who buy this with a wait time advertised as 60 minutes but is actually much less.

When we were there in August, they had most of the line for Space set up outside and were using only part of the indoor queue. Maybe because of COVID to have less time indoors?

No…it means the parks are dead…most likely
True, but Rise’s wait time was still on par with other headliner attractions pretty much all day. Even in the same park (Slinky). So regardless of how busy the parks are, there doesn’t seem to be extra demand for this specific attraction like everyone predicted. But it’s only been one day, so we’ll see how things go in the next few weeks.
