I think it is still a strong deterrent due to mandatory quarantines. Once kids get the vaccine, it will be back to normal. I expect crowds in 2022.

That's me, personally. Last family trip was Feb, 2019. (I went solo in May of 2019, but that was because I had a work conference in Orlando).

We postponed 2020 and 2021 trips. Our 11 year old is going to be camping out to get his shot as soon as it's approved, and we figure our 4 year old will get his by end of year or early next year. We have a trip booked for April right after Easter, and I'll move heaven and earth to make sure that one happens. I've got two years of pent up COVID frustration.

A shift in public attitudes and aggressive, egregious pricing tactics may have a bit to do with it as well

I think there's a little of that, but I really do think that the average guest doesn't even know or notice any of this stuff. Which is why they continue to get away with it.

The question is, how many of those "average" guests spend over $5000, experience the stuff we're all complaining about, then ever have a desire to return?

Plenty, it seems. My signature displays my pathology and Disney is well-aware.
You aren't an "average" guest. ;)

I have three family members who each took their children to Disney World, never to return, with tons of complaints about their trips...and that was BEFORE all the current stuff. They're not "fans" of the brand or films by any stretch...for them it was "we have kids, let's take them to Disney World". One of the three families is wealthy...the kind of wealthy that Disney wants, but who Disney will never be able to convert to repeat guests because now that they've experienced the theme parks, they won't ever try the cruises or any other variation of Disney travel because it's "beneath them".

Oh, I'm aware.

Well, for just 2 of us - our trip total was about $5400 for 9 nights Gran Destino water view including 9 day park hoppers and memory maker.
So divided between two adults, it's about $2700 per person. That's not bad.

but there's only 2 of us, no kids. And if we stayed deluxe that price would have almost doubled...

Any word how stand-by is going today?

Which is frightening when you consider that just 7 years ago, my family of 4 did 7 days at a value with dining and flights included for around $4700 (both kids under 10).

I don't find what we are paying frightening.

I know its less than we paid for Beach Club in 2014 for the same amount of time/hoppers and soooo much less than what we paid for Poly in 2017, same amount of time, etc. - Poly is something I regret spending that much money on.

Look at the difference in price - that's what's frightening. Twice as many people. 7 Days, dining and flights included. (ETA: forgot the parkhoppers...we had those too. No memory maker, though.)

Sure, but that was a value hotel, 2 less days and it was 7 years ago....that's a long time in the world of price increases.

$1200 of that was flights. We had deluxe dining (got free dining and paid the difference to upgrade). So the trip itself was only around $3500 for the 4 of us and was nearly all-inclusive.
