Part of me hopes that plans have changed and that SWL is going in the LMA area because the Echo Lake plan would likely lead to a longer construction timeline. The Echo Lake plan has SWL going out into the parking lot. I would assume that they would want to build new parking, whether it be surface lot or garage, before taking away that old parking. The new parking is going to go on the wetlands on the other side of the entrance road which mean that the new retention pond on the other side of world drive would need to be completed before the parking could be built. The new pond is still in the permitting process so we could be a few months from that even starting.

By going longer term they gain a permanent Muppet Land and potentially vastly larger area for Pixar.:D Personally thinking any Marvel content goes to MK's Tomorrowland n the very long term and Pixar is WDW' s answer to Marvel content on the west coast in the shorter term.

Had a lot of time to ponder the situation. Sabatticals over though. :grumpy:

Last I heard new garages are coming anyway.

I really feel like the Indy/Parking area sounds like the most logical option. If we assume that parking decks and reworked access are necessary regardless, and it seems like they are, then it makes sense to tie all these infrastructure improvements to the Star Wars expansion. Let's face it, the Star Wars area is as close as Disney can get to a guaranteed success. If they built Star Wars in the Streets/LMA area, that would limit future expansion--unless when they reworked the parking lot, they planned ahead for a future "Phase 3" expansion that probably wouldn't be as exciting as SW, which doesn't seem like the way Disney likes to spend its money. The Indy/Parking site also allows incorporation of Star Tours. The only real advantage of the LMA area is that it might be easier to "hide" it from the rest of the park to make a stronger delineation.

Building into the employee parking also makes sense over building into the public parking in that they can easily re-locate employee parking until new parking is ready.

Will there will be a ground breaking ceremony for the Star Wars land in the next few days?
Maybe.
They did it already and you missed it. Here's the publicity photo.

I doubt it. If anything, Star Wars isn't starting construction until after Toy Story starts... they're most likely prepping for Toy Story with the recent closures.

Ground breaking is just ceremonial so they don't need to actually start any real work. The demolition for TSL is likely to start very soon, if it hasn't already, and they could also start prep work for SWL soon, especially if it is going into the cast parking lot as has been rumored.

Are we sure that the new road directly into LMA backstage is for construction only? Could it be for temp cast parking too?

Has the costume shop been relocated to somewhere else on property? I assume that building, and all those offices back there, will be removed for TSL, right? Moving Creative Costuming will be a major undertaking. I assume they'd move them to one of the textile facilities, or Central Shops.

From what I remember hearing, Creative Costuming has been gone for awhile now.

It has been relocated offsite to the other side of Orlando I think its the near the airport ... so now all we have is demo left for TSL.

Park them at Epcot and bus em over is the typical routine. They do also have a parking garage backstage which will probably have more free space available since they are relocating so many of the departments back there.

I am not dismissing that as a possibility.

This is the more likely scenario. This is one of the good things about SWL going into the cast parking lot as opposed to the guest parking lot, it's much easier to relocate cast parking. If they were going to use the guest lot they would probably have to build new parking first.

Isn't the cast parking on the west and north sides of the park? I am probably wrong but i don't see how SWL could fit anywhere over there unless TSL is now shifted towards LMA/SOA.
