So, I try to keep up but admittedly, I'm behind - can someone be real nice since I usually don't ask stupid questions, LOL, and summarize the latest we know about what is going to be included in SWL? I've read a bunch of threads to catch up but I know I'm missing something. Have we gotten any more details on the rides themselves lately?

To go with AEfx's post above, do we actually know anything physically about the Battle/Escape ride? We talkin screens? AAs? 3D? Coaster? Simulator hybrid? Something brand spanking new? Anything?

Mix of screens and AA's around a trackless vehicle with more motion than Rat/Mystic Manor. IIRC, some rumors that have flown about are that it will be more than 6 minutes long, have 150 AA's (of varying degrees of motion and complexity), have Rathtar AA's, have AT-AT's rising out of the floor, elevators that the ride vehicle travels on (think Transformers but they'd actually acknowledge that you're changing levels), a droid onboard your vehicle, and it will be their next attempt to blow your socks off.

I THINK all of the above is either confirmed, or has not been directly shot down by the insiders.

That's what I have been saying all along. If you watch the videos documenting the work at DLR, you will see that they are building literally from the ground up there. A lot of what they were doing this past winter was just getting massive electrical, water, and sewer systems extended out to the middle of nowhere. You can actually go back and watch them bury the main electrical switch box or whatever it's called (sorry, I'm not really well versed in electrical equipment), and the pipes that run it all around.

I certainly wouldn't bet on anything yet, but I know their goal must be to get them to open simultaneously. Or, at least create that perception. Perhaps DLR will actually soft open earlier, like Pandora did, only a few months instead of weeks. But I'm pretty confident that come hell or high water, they intend on publicizing a nation-wide release date. This is an absolutely golden opportunity for them to be able to market both resorts together, not to mention prevent massive guest confusion and disappointment.
The first thing done is infrastructure especially in a project of that size so I'm not sure there is any motivation of things being done at the same time. Just getting it done when the crews were available seems like a much more logical assessment. It starts with earth moving. Make the land to shape the eventual construction, then the installation of water, sewer (both storm and regular) and electric especially if it is going to be underground. Always the first thing done. Then foundations, then steel or wood framing then exterior and then interior. Exterior detail can start after the exterior is completed and likewise the interior. Digging holes is by far the easiest and quickest of the construction process.

hey @marni1971 , inside of DL's First Order ride, there are a lot of slanted beams and non-90% angles. Is this for show elements/ride & queue features or more for just support? Its really interesting to see this go up since most projects lately just have the box structure with stuff added inside.

My guess is if they open simultaneously that they would make it a global event with something at every park. Purely a guess.

Amazed that nobody else seems to have picked up the news about SWL truly going vertical. Wdwmagic is the cutting edge for wdw news.

Because other then the obvious fact that they are building something, it has no other meaning. It was obvious that they were building something long before the first skeletal piece of steel showed up. Putting up a couple of dozen sticks is not an indication of construction in high gear. That part is the simplest part of any construction project. But, if it makes you feel that something is happening out of the ordinary or planned... who am I to stop you.

Vertical steel has always been a newsworthy landmark when new rides are being built. Yes, in the grand scheme of things it doesn't mean much but that hasn't stopped people from getting excited about it.

True, but, just telling you why I am not. The process has been going on since the first bulldozer knocked down the first building or fence. Earth work is a long process, Footings are a long process, Utilities are a long process, skeletal structures are not. They are quick and like putting together a very large, numbered jigsaw puzzle. The finish work is by far the longest process involved. Intricate, external and internal details are even longer. To me hardly anything to get all excited about, but, it's fine that others do. Just me throwing my opinion in there.

Yeah, I wonder about this. We've only heard about the two rides and the two restaurants plus the concept of interaction with actors.

Given the size of the land, I wonder if there will be anything else included that we don't know of. Like smaller "attractions" or what kind of streetmosphere/entertainment or if there would be anything akin to the wand effects in Harry Potter. M&G's seem a little different that what they are going for with the land, but at the same time, it would be odd for Disney not have those opportunities. Are they going to move Jedi Training to the new land or get rid of it?

I feel like there are a lot of details we don't yet know. We may find out some stuff in D23 this year, but there will probably be some big press releases leading up to the opening in order to general more buzz for when it opens.

You are assuming the construction is an apples to apples comparison when it isn't. The two different contractors are assembling things in different ways and with different methods in some cases (the hole foundation for example).

I agree it is interesting to see the differences. For example they started going vertical at DHS before they even started the circle foundation near the muppets. (They kept calling it the super collider when people watched it being build in California). The construction of that portion has been very interesting to see as it looked like a complex concrete structure to make.

I don't know who said that it will have 150 AA's, but I find it hard to believe that a land which just opened with a rumored cost of ~$1B has exactly ONE AA, but a single attraction in SWL is going to have 150?

It would be great if it even had 25 AA's of varying degrees. 150 AA's in a single attraction, in an era where there are more screens and less AA's in new attractions...it would be AWESOME, but call me skeptical.

They're chucking a lot at this land. Expect streetmosphere and stuff. And plenty of design your own x stores.

I'll shoot down "AT-ATs rising out of the floor"

And one elevator shouldn't let you know it is one, just like Transformers.

Well they already have build your own lightsabers and two different kinds of figure-scale build a droids, I suppose they could add ships to the mix and custom regular figures with people's faces on them. If they really wanted to make things realistic for the Star Wars galaxy they'd have a place to design full scale droids to sell for ridiculous prices.
