Star Wars Land announced for Disney's Hollywood Studios

The general public doesn't start paying attention until the marketing push goes into overdrive. Their ears perk up at announcements, but it's not until it's hammered home with the big marketing push.

That is why what Disney did with Star Wars Land is so odd. They perked the ears the the SWL announcement and then started a huge marketing push for "Only at DHS!!!" only to have, a 20 year old ride, a lame M&G, a stage show, and fireworks.

When the marketing push goes into overdrive again when the land actually opens, meh.
Co-workers were asking me if I was excited to be going to WDW and Star Wars Land this past December. I was like "Well,......" They were confused when I said the real SWL won't be done till 2019.

Disney you sly dog. You know what you're doing.

We did the SW offerings and I had to apologize to my wife for making her sit through two videos that we have viewed at home before and the launch bay was very organized. Star Tours was cool as always and enjoyed the stage show, They were doing the Jingle Bell Bam fireworks show instead of the SW one which was a bummer.
I am curious to see what direction Disney goes once the land opens. Will there be a lot of special after hours up charge events like MNSSHP and MVMCP?? Silly question, I know the answer is yes.
Hopefully, more details will be released during the D23.

They spent a lot of time hyping the new Star Wars "stuff" and showed some concept art of the land but failed to tell the average guest that the "stuff" that's actually open now is a gift shop, meet and greet and fireworks.

Oh, you don't know that there's already a Star Wars ride, a 'museum' like One Man's Dream, two stage shows, and there's a projection show with the fireworks? Would you like me to link you the info?

Can somebody point me to the confusing ads from Disney that give the impression that the new land is already open?
Just mere weeks after the announcement of star wars.. there were a few ads on TV, that displayed a lot of Star Wars(including the new star wars fireworks, the cavalcade of star wars character, and the "fashion" show of star wars). Some of which werent ready and was concept.
Including Star Wars land concept and already existing attractions.

Well, given that Universal have already announced the Jimmy Fallon ride, I wouldn't be surprised if they had Nintendo Land ready extremely fast as soon as work starts!

Well for starters when I'm driving into WDW there's a giant billboard that says "Star Wars Awakens" (or something like that) "at Disney Hollywood studios". I would say that gives the impression there's something bigger open than there actually is.

of course they know.
We already discussed about how manipulative and full of BS those ads were.
Not to be contradictory, but, if there is a single ad ever created by anyone that isn't a large percentage of BS, I'd like to see it. Advertising is a psychological game. Without some degree of not really manipulation, but implication, advertising wouldn't exist at all. Life 101.

I am sure there are adds that have zero BS. I think the technical term is "Unsuccessful".;)

It's not like Disney would fail if they didn't use a sly implication of big Star Wars stuff at DHS.
Of course they wouldn't, but it is an adds job to get the most turnstile spins for dollar spent and to do it in a way that your customer base, or more importantly, the FTC, does not think you are flat out lying.

To be honest, I don't think the ads in isolation are misleading. I mean, they hype things up to be greater than they are, but that's just normal advertisement.

The confusing/manipulating thing is that they released such Star Wars in the parks relatively close to also releasing concept art and press releases about the planned Star Wars expansion. So, it is easy for people to assume the ads about Disney/Star Wars now are specifically referring to the more detailed concepts full land they heard about.

Exactly.
