Star Wars Land announced for Disney's Hollywood Studios

looks cool but i'm guessing the puppet drones would be actually controlling a giant puppet, not actually being the centerpiece themselves
Hi @ProjectXBlog! Yeah, that's exactly what it looks like and I guess the drones can make the puppet dance or do stunts and stuff like that for parades and shows.

As an aside, Bob Iger said that Rogue One is a stand alone project and is just an experiment and that Disney does not need the money at all. So, it is totally expected that Star Wars Rogue One will not be a money maker.

With that said, I don't expect Rogue One to be part of the Star Wars land attractions anymore.

The movie still looks good to me though, so I can't wait to see it.

They wont put the original back up as that showed the old design, the current one shows the version that will be built after all the cuts were made.
Hi @LieutLaww!
CtIJq-kVIAAxRUW.jpg

This rendering has the Giant Buzz Lightyear and two bright sonar dishes or whatever in the middle which was part of the original concept.

The budget cut rendering does not feature the giant Buzz Lightyear and there are no sonar dishes. So, this is a good sign. Right? I'm sorry but Disney cannot build a land that looks like this. It's never been done before, so it's impossible.

ETA: I just realized that we are totally off topic. LOL. So, I hope some more Star Wars Land news will surface soon!

I think you're confused about what's on the wall- they didn't take the giant concept art of the entire land down, it's just not in that picture. Since that wall went up it has always been the Alien ride concept (as you commented on) and the second iteration of the land layout.

Until you have to walk through it on an above average crowd day. Diagon and hogsmeade are both made to be sort of cramped and around the holidays it is torture.

i found diagon much more open than it looks because its so deep....the numerous alleys allow for a good experience. knock turn is my favorite....would love to find one of you pixie dusters lost down there ;)

A huge issue with the blue milk is that nobody knows what it tastes like. Is it sweet? Bitter? Who knows! I am almost positive that it will end up being like a watery vanilla milkshake that just happens to be light blue.

Kids love anything liquid that is blue. Why? I haven't a clue, but, given the choice they will go for blue every time.

That's both good and bad, though. While it does make it more vague for the guest as to what to expect, it allows the food scientists who create it to have a lot of freedom. They just have to get a certain look but can tinker as needed to make something that tastes particularly good and would appeal to guests.

It's my biggest concern about the land though. HP at least has normal food, along with the 'magical'. I'm sure Pandora will be serving 'Earth' food too at the mess hall. Star Wars doesn't have the menu choices like Harry Potter. The only foods I can even think of at the top of my head are the blue milk, Rey's dinner (of which I'm only remembering the bread), and the leek like vegetables that Aunt Beru was cooking. While I'm sure that all of the food will be delicious, seeing 'Bantha with Naboo herbs' on the menu, with 'chicken served with garlic sauce' underneath in parentheses, would sort of ruin the atmosphere.

To be totally fair, not all of the food needs to be faux exotic. In a galaxy with humans, it stands to reason that there'd be chickens and cows, too. The real "issue" is when/if they cave and start selling Coke products, which I don't personally have a problem with. I'd much prefer a straight menu with grilled chicken and mashed potatoes/burgers and fries to Disney slapping some puns and fake names on burgers to make them seem more Star Wars-y. Uni lucked out with Potter, but I think there's only so far one can go before one starts needing to have a translator to read a menu.

TL DR
Create a new drink for blue milk, recreate Rey's wonder bread, but please for the love of god do not call French fries galactic corellian spice dusted laser cannon crisps. Suspension of disbelief won't disappear because Coke shouldn't exist on a fake planet.

I'd be much more okay with the grilled chicken, mashed potatoes, and veggies than burger & fries. That second option is a bit too American. An easy way to fix this would maybe just have picture representation on a menu with numbers assigned? I'm sure I'm overthinking all of this.

Idk what they're going to do about Coke products though. They really shouldn't be included on the menu SWL, but unless they brand them as "caffeinated beverages", I'm not sure what they'll do. The same goes for beer. I'm okay with it being sold (especially in a cantina), but I don't want to see 'Bud Light' on a Star Wars menu.

Adults seem to love it as well. Every bartender I know tells me that if a particular drink is not selling, figure out a way to turn it blue and you can sell it by the gallon.
... I am one of those people. One of the bartenders at my favorite bar makes a drink (that I can't mention here because it would be censored) that happens to be loaded with blue curacao, and I love it.

Hi @IDInstitute! Thank you so much for posting this picture for me! Yes, I was totally confused. I thought that the rendering that Darth put up was totally new. My bad, LOL. And sadly, I can see that the budget cut rendering is still there. But, I am hopeful since the other picture is there, too. So, we'll see.

i bet a solid 4 figure pay check that butterbeer is still more popular in sales volume than blue milk.
Hi @9112! I totally agree -- blue milk will not touch Butterbeer. But, it should be more popular than that weird purple foam apple juice at Gaston's though. LOL.

LOL. I think it's impossible for Disney to create an unattractive and barely themed land. Disney is over the top right down to the bathrooms. So, I am going to remain cautiously optimistic about Toy Story Land.

Getting back on topic to Star Wars Land.

I just learned that the secret name for Star Wars Land is "Project D" which also filed a notice of commencement for Star Wars land that expires September 2019. From BlogMickey.com

So, it looks like Star Wars land is on track to open either Summer or Thanksgiving of 2019!

Project D is a very old name.

They're still aiming for mid - late 2019. Christmas 2019 is the all-else-fails goal.
