Star Tours, Princesses, Mermaid, DC gate, Pop Century, and more... Oh My!

The funny thing is that is what it looks like before the 5 week rehab. It just closed a few days ago for five weeks of its bi-annual refurbishment. The interior was closed off first as they begin rehabbing the loading area and ride itself, and now the tarps are going up on the exterior to freshen the facade and entry and building itself.

Peter Pan's Flight across the way just reopened from five weeks of rehab last week, and it looks gorgeous inside and out. Plus there's 21st century fiber optic tech and animatronics that actually move inside!

Pinnochio's Daring Journey is next in late July, after Snow White's Scary Adventures closes. Then Casey Jr. Circus Train and Storybookland Canal Boats close in late August for a 10 week rehab and freshening to the intricate miniatures found in those attractions.

It's such a shame that WDW's Magic Kingdom can't ever close any attractions for regulare maintenance because it would RUIN VACATIONS and make children cry and mobs of angry crowds would storm City Hall each day yelling at the hostesses at the counter.

True, and what a revelation it was when I made my first visit to Disneyland earlier this year. I've always been a WDW fan since I was born and raised in Georgia/Florida. I've lived in Arizona for ten years and never got over there because I was convinced Disneyland was not as good because it was smaller. While I will always love the sheer size of WDW, Disneyland Park is the best thing going...in the States at least! :)

Now if they could just do something about the horrible Tomorrowland in Disneyland. Its got great attractions, but Innoventions needs to go and the place is in serious need of some cosmetic TLC!

Well, I do think that WDW is the more visited park in general from tourists, and Aprs are more common in DL (something I don't hear much of on these boards, but I see it almost every time DL is brought up). A local won't generally complain about one or 2 rides being down, right? Because they could go right back to the parks the next day. Now I'm not saying that we don't need refurbs, just that it's more of a sacrifice to refurb in WDW, esp. with a bigger tourist base. They've just got to bite the bullet, like they did with HM.

I saw those pictures the other day and thought "I really need to make it out to Disneyland." Now I see why the DL types always turn their noses up at WDW. Wow!

It's really just the Magic Kingdom that elicits the turned up nose on the West Coast. The rest of WDW is fine, or at least it tries.

Epcot is wonderful! The Magic Kingdom, not so much.

(There should be a "Turned Up Nose" emoticon for those of us posting from Southern California!)

Don't worry we are all too aware of MK's need for help.

I think if I was from LA and visiting WDW, I wouldn't even go to the MK.

That is strange because we are supposed to laud 74 for his genius because he supposedly said that the wand was coming down before anyone else. Yet when someone else leaks LM is on the way, well then that does not matter because there has been no official announcement from Disney.............hmmmm.

The name of WDW74, connundrum or Cbomb will never be responded to, typed by me or spoken of by me ever again. Can I get 3 "free at lasts"?

Speaking of Martin Luther King, George Lucas gave $1,000,000 to his memorial in Washington DC. Way to go Mr. Lucas! Salute!

I thought his memorial was in Atlanta

As to UP ... another one of your notorious changing the subject deals ... and Star Trek is doing great ... as is The Hangover ... Angels and Demons too (I think).

What does a movie's performance have to do with WDW getting some love? Go check your history, even in the Great Depression people went out to the movies ... it may have made them feel better but it didn't build any $150 million theme park attractions.

I'm not an economist, but I can read between the lines. I would speculate that movies and other inexpensive entertainment (i.e. not vacations) would be somewhat immune to a poor economy, and they may actually benefit from it as people would opt for cheaper entertainment options. Also, Angels and Demons isn't doing as good as expected. It probably won't approach The Da Vinci Code for domestic box office.

Sounds Dangerous sign has been down for a few months now. I believe I'm pretty much the only one who is sad about this.

I believe Inside the Magic had a binaural audio recording of it a few months ago... download that and you'll be golden.

Well, I'm not from LA, I'm from OC :D (huge difference, honestly).

And the funny thing is that I was planning a three day jaunt to WDW in October on the way to a longer trip overseas, and a day at the Magic Kingdom isn't in my itinerary. There's just no need.

If you have park hopper you should try to do the Haunted Mansion. Just keep your eyes on the ground and don't look around while you walk back there.
