?? That's the stage they've had there for awhile now for Jedi Academy/etc.

Not talking about the stage, but as I quoted, the painting of the exterior ride building. It used to be that tan "studio soundstage" color and now it's grey.

I wouldn't call painting it grey theming as a bunker...

but you can see from the Disney Blog today, they put up a massive banner marque on that part of the building. Not exactly themed to some bunker concept - it looks much like the movie banners throughout the other backlot areas of the park.

It may not be a "bunker", but it does look Imperial grey and is certainly more "Star Wars" than the tan boring studio soundstage look.

The point is, it looks like they may be abandoning the "on set" facade when you first walk in, which will be welcome to many of us. That's one of the big hopes I had for this refurb.

We won't know until we get actual ride reports, but it certainly is looking up!

Yup, between the above article and the new pics posted at startours2live, looks like the wicked old theme is finally dead. :)

Yee-haw!

(Don't get cocky, you ain't see the attraction yet.)

The more and more we discuss it on here, the more I love the idea of a Lucasland (and similar lands for other studios). Thematically it can be sold as "the Hollywood that never was but always will be". It's meant to be a Hollywood studio, but a misconception of what that studio should be. Pixar Place should be Pixar Animation Studios, where toys and cars come to life and we can shrink to the size of a bug or power monstropolis.

So forgive me if this has been posted already and if it had please delete it but I just heard from people in imagineering that in the new Star Tours, the reason the empire will be chasing the new StarSpeeders is because they will be chasing a renegade passenger wanted by lord vader, who just happens to be a randomly chosen guest. At the beginning of the attraction the pilot will hold up a wanted poster featuring a ride passenger.
Concerns are being brought up regarding will this turn into another Spaceship Earth where the pic doesn't quite match up right but I hope this works because it sounds like a cool premise!

Man, that sounds awesome. I'm sure that they won't be splicing out a face like on Spaceship earth. Meaning it will work better. Very excited!

Meh, I'm not much of a fan of that sort of interactivity, guest immersion.

I feel more immersed when I can just be tossed about in sync with a 3d SW video than when I am looking at the mugshot of the fellow tourist sitting next to me.

This x 1,000,000.

I can look in a mirror at home, and I can look at other guests everywhere else in the park.

Eh. I think this one is cool.

I think all that NextGen stuff is silly and will ultimately prove a waste of a billion dollars and time, but little touches like this ARE cool and appreciated by many guests.

Example, I can't tell you how many times the very first thing someone says about "ET" is, "Is that the one where he says your name?"

Another is Harry Potter - people find the projection of the guests effect there thrilling.

In this case, it gives yet another reason to ride again (sort of like a bonus game once you've gotten all the versions). A lot of guests will appreciate something like this, unlike many of the other "NextGen" initiatives.

Star Tours 3D early reviews?

I've seen people allude to the fact that this ride is getting great early reviews. Can someone point me to them because I haven't seen anything yet. Thanks in advance.

I haven't found many out-and-out reviews, but this is what I have seen so far:

(SPOILER ALERT!!!!)

  • Queue is now "in character" totally, no "soundstage" crap
  • The queue has been redone, with the most notable effect being a videoscreen (a la Rock N Rollercoaster pre-show) where you see ships landing with famous characters getting out (Han and the Falcon, for instance)
  • The plot is that you are going on an excursion, and the Empire is after a "fugitive" who is aboard (who turns out to be one of the riders)
  • At one point, they show the rider in a "WANTED" poster in the film

I think that's about all that people have mentioned so far.
