Star Tours II in 3D for 2011 CONFIRMED

The schedule for this was tight, but I heard it was because they only needed to install the actual ride system and re-theme the waiting area. So it was really just a construction job. All of the testing for this was supposedly done at Epcot on the old Body Wars ride system...I can't remember where I read this, but I know that it was here somewhere.

so you dont think it will be open?
i know sometimes disney does soft openings, in some cases, 2 weeks or even longer before the ride's official opening

Any idea what their doing? Just a basic paint refresh or are they adding new elements? Since the whole working studio idea is basically dead I wish they'd finish the backs of the trees and AT-AT.

Yeah, that was really the one thing I wish they'd change. The "soundstage" thing was just unnecessary. The Studios have come far since then when that was the "theme" - I so hope that sort of thing is gone. I won't be all irritated if it doesn't, but it would be so nice if they would.

Anyone know why they haven't released any soft opening or passholder preview dates for WDW for this ride?

Well, they never release "soft" opening dates, usually even to cast members (when they do it's rare). As to previews, I agree with the above - I'm not sure we should expect them. It's coming down to the wire on this one.

I'll be there a few days before the 20th and will definitely walk over and see what's going on, but I'm just planning on being there at opening on the 20th, spending the morning riding (I'm hoping to get at least 3 in) and then heading back on my trip home. Star Wars weekends are fun, but only the first couple of hours - once the crowds start building, it just isn't any fun for me.

Went to the sneak peak at the Aventura mall today.
Not a lot to it, really. They had Jedi Mickey, Leia Minnie and the droids there for photo ops, as well as a green screen to put your photo onto a postcard background.
Nice event, but I had hoped for a little....more.

They also had a barcode you could scan with your phone that took you to a mobile site with information and some free downloads. Here are the wallpapers it includes.

Very nice, Lee. Thanks for sharing!

Did you see any representation of Leia? Her name keeps showing up, but because of the time frame I'm assuming it's a little girl and not a representation of Carrie Fisher. Very curious about this.

It'll be interesting to see how they show her. Will probably be the smoking gun as far as the placement of the attraction on the timeline is. Though considering the Death Star photos placing it at a similar stage of construction to the Death Star II, it looks like it'd be closer to A New Hope then it is to Episode 3.
