OF COURSE it'll be closed the week we're there. Fabulous.

I almost ditched our whole trip back when the opening date originally got pushed to February. Which was probably an overreaction, but I really love SSE.

Grr.

I rode it on Sunday the 20th and was treated to....an evacuation. Bummer. Never got to the interactive part at the end. From what I've read it, I don't suspect that I'll like it but am willing to withhold judgment until actually experienced. For what its worth, I thought the Cast members did a lousy job with the evacuation on Sunday.

Snapper Bean

That's probably because half of our staff right now are trainees. I can't say for sure because I wasn't there, but that's probably why the evac stunk.

Originally, this post contained something very idiotic (misunderstanding about the original post), so here's the lyrics to "Some of Them are Old", by Brian Eno, off of his killer album "Here Come the Warm Jets" -

People come and go
And forget to close the door,
And leave their stains and cigarette butts trampled on the floor,
And when they do, remember me, remember me.

Some of them are old,
Some of them are new,
Some of them will turn up when you least expect them to,
And when they do, remember me, remember me.

Lucy you're my girl,
Lucy you're a star,
Lucy please be still and hide your madness in a jar,
But do beware: it will follow you, it will follow you.

Some of them are old
But it would help if you could smile,
To earn a crooked sixpence you'll walk many a crooked mile,
And when you do, remember me, remember me.

Sorry.

I rode it on the 14th...I agree with everything you said. It is far better than before. It is just odd how people like to complain about it.

That's an odd thing to say. People who complain about the new version of the ride (and that's almost all directed at the descent) do so because they don't like it, or at least they liked the old version better. Why wouldn't they complain about it? When you say they "like to" complain about it, you're implying what? That they complain even though they do like it? That they complain because it gives them pleasure to do so? How would you know this?

My family and I were fortunate to go it a few ago and were pleasantly surprised at the ending - it gave us all a good laugh and we talked about it the rest of our trip. I just hope they add light to the garage computer scene, it was too dark when we saw it.

I'm glad to hear you say this. We had exactly the same reaction. We really enjoyed the descent. I say, "Bravo!" to Siemens. Don't listen to the naysayers.

Same here KeeKee...I'm just glad that SSE hasn't been Stichified.Sure that might be settling for mediocraty but hey, given Epcot's current track record that might be pretty good.

:hammer:

Oh yeah, and people on these boards looooove to complain.

I've noticed that. Remember, though, there are hardcore Disney fans here that go over everything with a fine-toothed comb. Everything that WDW does is scrutinized much more deeply than the average park attendee. I sort of try to keep that in mind when reading some of the complaints, but have to admit that some of the comments are just nit picky and unnecessary.

On the other hand, there have been some really good ideas put forth here. But, the complaints and comparisons about SSE are completely unfounded. Siemen's and the WDW Imagineers have done a good job with this current version. Could they tweak it a little? Sure, but if they don't it's fine like it is.

Let me restate what I said and maybe you'll see what I mean. You apparently like the new ending to SSE. What if I quoted what you said, and then added, "Geez, I guess some people really like to praise." You might rightfully claim that I am dismissing your opinion, suggesting you are some kind of Pollyanna who likes everything, with no discerning taste. Presumably you like some changes that come to WDW and not others, right? So why don't you do other people the courtesy of assuming they are the same way?

Certainly I have seen people on these boards who seem upset at almost all changes to WDW. But these are really the exceptions. Very few people objected to the latest refurb of the Haunted Mansion, for example.

Bottom line, when you paint a group of people with a broad brush, it shows that you don't listen to people as individuals. And if you don't listen to people, then people shouldn't listen to you. Just my two cents.

Here, here! :sohappy: Haters of the new descent (and lovers of the HM refurb) unite.

Yeah...I just don't get why everyone can't just accept that many people here at WDWMagic don't like the descent, some do...live and let live.

Seems like this is getting kind of personal for some folks....

Let's remember we're all here because we love WDW - that's the one thing we can all agree on (right?!?)

I don't necessarily hate the touchscreen video. I hate the fact that there's nothing else in the descent. I would have liked to see a compromise. Keep everything from the old descent (or update it to something similar) for people who want to look at something other than an esurance commercial and have the touchscreen for people who enjoy it. Seems simple enough to me.

Not if you want to gather marketing data during the descent. You don't want the happy passengers distracted.

Honestly as much as I'd like to see other things in the decsent I also noticed that, as bright as ALL of the screens are, just adjusting our eyes to try to see what's around would be difficult. I think the screens are probably too bright to begin with.

First off, I'm not so sure that everyone does "love" WDW. At least their posts don't imply that. But they do appear to love complaining. ;)

Seriously, nobody is saying that individuals should not voice their opinion concerning SSE. If they personally don't like it, that's fine. Most things at WDW do not appeal to everyone and I believe it's the same for SSE.

However, something else in going on in many of these SSE threads. First, some feel their dislike of 10% of the ride (descent) is more important than the other 90% that most seem to find appealing. The hatred of that small part is blinding them to all the good. Many never say anything about the wonderful updates to the existing scenes, the new lighting, new AAs, added scenes, etc while spewing hatred of the descent. In addition, the same few vocal haters of the descent have posts that seem to indicate that since they don't like it, nobody should. I've even seen a couple of nasty posts saying if someone likes it, they hate them.

Further, it seems the ones continually complaining want to totally ignore the first hand reports from the SSE CMs who have said that most people leaving the attraction enjoyed it and some find the descent the best part of the refurb.

I have no problem with someone not liking an attraction, but those that continually rant about it or call the Imagineers lazy or not trying their best, etc or denigrate those that do like the changes is irritating at best. That's well past posting their opinion.

I think the reason for the criticism, despite whatever good reviews there may be is that there is still a massive disconnect from the theme of the rest of the ride and the ending, one that has not existed in the past 3 incarnations and 25 years of the attraction. It symbolizes, at least partially, the continuing dumbing down of Disney, and more specifically Epcot attractions to have a more pop culture appeal.

It sounds like you are saying that you would be happier if the attraction appealed to your understanding of the theme or somehow had some deeper meaning that only you could understand.

Good reviews by the majority of the guests or appeal to a wider audience should NOT be a goal... just as long as a few purists are happy, then that would be a success.

Gotcha... figured it was selfish motivations with little regard to the majority of the guests.
