Actually…they shouldn’t have done the “you didn’t know he is alive?” Bit

It’s lazy storytelling and was only to make obiwan look scared…which I’m sorry - is to make a beloved character look weak…

Where have we seen that before?

Many racists know better than to make their remarks public on Twitter... it gets them banned.

She received "DMs" and showed them to Disney. She made a Twitter video where she said what kind of stuff they were saying.

It's the same thing that John Boyega and Marie Tran and Daisy Riddley received for being a Black stormtrooper, or an Asian or female protagonist... before the movie even came out (so don't anyone dare say it was solely because of their acting or the plot).

Cf. new Pinocchio's Blue Fairy.

Its a massive shame as I dont feel that the Marvel fanbase are as Toxic?
Unfortunately the racism comes up under the “shield” of a more legitimate source of criticism: they’ve made some really atrocious stories and characters

But the racism isn’t acceptable no matter what context

It wasn't necessary for sure. The scene I referenced earlier when Obi-Wan sees Vader in the Death Star in ANH, and takes that slow, silent, few steps toward him as his face shows sheer shock works... that works just fine as both seeing Anakin as Vader for the first time, and also learning of his existence. Alec's face says it all those few seconds with no words needed.

Yet I can still see why they included the revelation of Anakin's existence in this series, just to add more drama into the mix.
Still hoping Obi-Wan's first time seeing Vader is that scene in ANH.

I don’t see how it can be they don’t meet? I have a theory on that.

The Guinness approach in 4 works…but he explained the “Vader betrayed and murdered your father” prior in the film…so there’s no way to sell he didn’t know exactly what was going on.

Once again, not in USA. My perspective is off. It just seems more of the current racist moral panic that grips because we all know racism is real. Even when we don't see it.

Starting a PR campaign that there will be racist attacks on a badly acted and written character before the show started. Was inevitably going to create one. Even if mainly from trolls.

Anyway the show is disappointing. All the predictions on how current mindset Hollywood would stuff it up have come correct. Obi-Wan is a feckless fool saved by others in his own show.

It's just so depressing that we immediately knew this would be the case.

Obi-Wan saved from inquisitor by Owen Beru.
Guilt tripped on mission to save Leia.
She didn't need saving at all besides being a 4 year old 10 year old.
Saved by fake Jedi.
Obi-Wan escapes the inquistors by them defeating themselves.
2 year 10 year old takes charge on mining planet.
Ben is clueless and trips up, toddler 10 year old Leia is smarter and more clued in.
Storm Troopers, Ben does something. Trapped. As soon as we see Niobe we know the game they're playing. "She's the good person he was to meet." Then yep.
Plan to get off the planet is not Obi-Wan. He is feckless twatt.
I don't have an issue with him running away from Vader, yet it falls into the problem Marvel now has with all the magic bull. Characters are all powerful until they are not.
Obi-Wan defeated and saved by others in a laughably bad scene where Storm Troopers and Vader can't go around an 8 meter wide fire.

There are implausible elements to the show…the insistence on an abducted child being a big one…

But I actually really liked this third episode for a lot of reasons…I want to see where it goes…

I hear a lot of the concerns

I’m going to have to trust that they “bring it around” on the feckless fool thing.

I’m willing to let it play that the concept of trauma/midlife Jedi crisis can be a thing…I’m on a ride and I’ll wait for the station.

If it’s another de-masculine hatchet job after the last one basically ended the movie franchise…then you have to feel like someone in San Francisco has an undiagnosed Brain tumor or something??

obi-wan thought he killed vader on mustafar, so he didn't know vader survived his injuries and is now wearing a black suit

obi-wan thought he killed vader on mustafar,
You know, this brings up an overlooked detail of how angry Obi-Wan was with Anakin during the fight on Mustafar.

Seeing as Anakin was burning to "death", had Obi-Wan had any remorse or compassion for the guy, don'tcha think he would have put him out of his misery right then and there as a mercy kill rather than allowing him to roast alive? He had no idea the Emperor was coming to save him, and he just left him there to barbeque in anguish. Doesn't seem like the Jedi way.
But then again, he was ticked at him, and he had to live so the story could happen.

I think that was mishandled…

Shoulda been more like Batman dropping the joker in the acid in 1989…

You don’t leave a semi rotting enemy…they coulda had him “disappear” and then be found…

But it was trying to redeem the Christiansen story arc/portrayal…

Star wars has been “mo money, mo problems” for 25 years…can’t make mistakes under the magnifying glass

Still quite enjoying the show for the interplay between Ewan's Alec Guinness impression Obi-Wan and little Leia who despite her "too wise for her years" writing is just ridiculously appealing.

In their relationship, I keep getting flashes of 70's and 80's TV shows and movies with adults paired with wisecracking kids ala Punky Brewster. But the wise & spunky young girl teaches the adults trope goes back to Pollyanna or Heidi or A Little Princess, amongst others.

And at least there are multiple moments of her making mistakes and wrong choices. The kid may be insightful into the ways of people's hearts, but she's just a kid after all.

Also in this ep - Indira Varma is just fabulous in everything I've seen her in and this is no exception. Looking forward to more of her inspiring Leia as a cool hero figure.

Oh - and hearing James Earl Jones' voice just made my heart so fannishly happy!

Sadly, the Third Sister (and frankly the rest of the Inquisitors) are drawn more basically and poor Third Sister really doesn't get to do much more than glower, which granted she does just fine. Some more specific backstory by now would've helped, though I expect it will come eventually in a flashback.

I share the frustration at some of what's shown undercutting what comes later in the films that I didn't feel the same issue with Rogue One (which I thought was pretty darned fantastic). But it is what it is and so far, for me, it's entertaining enough that I'm looking forward to where the second half of the story goes.

I was thinking that the whole goal of Reva was to use Obi-Wan to destroy Vader out of revenge, knowing/thinking he was the only one who could. Doesn't seem like that any more. I really don't know Reva's whole purpose tbh.

As for Obi-Wan, it seems clear (especially with only 3 episodes left) that he will VERY soon be reunited with his old master Qui-Gon (ghost form of course) who will retrain him. Obi-Wan will confront Vader again and whoop his (giving new meaning to what Vader says in ANH about being the learner when they last met). Vader may even be so damaged that he has to be found and rebuilt by Palps again.
