He’s more appropriate than filoni in some ways…less in others

Doesn’t matter…Iger has to go…then Kennedy.

Nothing changes until those happen. The died is cast
Kennedy is effectively gone at this point, she'll depart at the end of the year officially as she retires. So you don't have to wait much longer.

I just started Acolyte about a week ago, still have 2 episodes left. If I'm being honest and take my Star Wars goggles off, it's not very good. None of the characters are very cool or likeable. It's not well written. If it didn't have the SW elements of sabers and ships and aliens, I can't imagine anyone wasting their time with it. That said, I still prefer it right now over Ashoka.

You are not alone. The Acolyte season 2 was cancelled apparently.

I tried to start watching it but gave up.

I watched the first 2 episodes but wasn’t really intrigued so I gave up also, with so much content shows really only get a couple episodes to hook people, if they don’t most will move on to the next thing, the major exception coming from positive word of mouth, if people keep talking about how good a show is a lot of people will give it another chance, something the Acolyte is unlikely to benefit from.

This is where I think season 1 of the Mandalorian absolutely shined, I was instantly hooked by the concept of the space western, they set the hook even deeper with the introduction of baby Yoda a few episodes later. D+ Star Wars has been far more miss than hit unfortunately.

History only repeats itself until it doesn't, at which point new history is created. The idea that Iger will stay forever is just a boogie man story fans who hate him tell themselves.
He ran and then had himself reappointed

That’s the record…not a ghost story oogie boogie

New history will be created when he’s tossed and not a day before

The boogie man story is the one you guys continue to tell yourselves about him staying long past 2026.

And he won’t be “tossed”, just like Kennedy he’ll leave and retire on his own when his contract ends.

You’re not much of a student of history on that one…

Look at this nonsense:
OJ was likewise obsessed with finding the real killer

How many kidneys you want to wager on that?

At this rate…the hedge funds will have him forced out. He’s on very borrowed, high interest time.

But 2026 is nothing to him. He’s done nothing but be a hatchetman since he came back…their performance has been TERRIBLE…and he extended himself once already.

See the pattern?

But you are correct he won’t be publicly fired like his pawn chapek…he will retire. But nothing about him indicates it will be at all by choice. That’s Bob.

What happened in the last 24 hours?

He said the democrats wanted him to run for president. That’s a well documented lie…he keeps bringing it up. Lie

He said he’s “obsessed” with finding a successor. That would involve picking up the phone and calling someone younger and qualified. It ain’t that hard. No hint he has ever done that even though he’s talked about it for about 10 years. Lie.

He “was mistaken in his comments about the death of linear”
Well he lied about the lucrative stream. And then he lied about cable dying cause he needs sports and gambling to prop up the sagging ship.
Is that like “two lies cancel each other out?”

Just a liar…and a has been…who’s been failing

And he really sucked with lucasfilm too…to bring er back around

This isn't the thread to continue this, but here goes.

It doesn't matter how big you think Bob's ego is, the man is not stupid. You are correct he is on borrowed time, and he knows it, as there is no way Wall St or shareholders are going to accept another extension, Period, Full Stop. So it doesn't matter the rest of your rant, the man will leave in 2026 when his contract is up. As he is not going to risk any remaining legacy he believes he has trying to fend off a shareholder revolt a second time. Call it ego, call it being smart, call it whatever you want, but he just won't risk losing after having assured investors a succession plan is top priority. Its why all this information is coming out now just a few months later. And its why they reiterated that Gormon is leading the selection committee. Its all just to remind investors that its still happening.

If he had no intention of leaving Disney would be quiet about it and just let 2026 roll around and announce an extension, just like in the past speaking of history. The fact they are being so public about this again, interviews specifically about the topic, etc. indicates to me they are not far off from an announcement of who they've selected. I wouldn't be surprised if we don't have the announcement right around Q4 earnings in Oct, if not shortly after.

No season 2 for either the Acolyte or Book of Boba Fett. Fett won't show up in the Mando & Gorgu movie. It makes sense the movie is just Ashoka season 1.5. We still don't know if there is a season 2 of Obiwan.

I hope so, but I'm not convinced.

That's the key. The baby yoda reveal absolutely proves you can still capture the magic of original star wars. It's not impossible, it's not magic, it's getting someone like Favreau who's knows the brand.

Season one and two of mando did what everyone said Disney needed to do. It expanded the brand. My, at the time, 4yr old daughter went nuts for baby Yoda. If I was wearing my mando shirt, she run up stairs and put one of her shirts on and say, we're baby yoda twins! Sure she has no real clue about star wars. But guess what? Neither did I when a new hope came out. I thought the droids were awesome, the ships were cool... And I wanted the toys then. Then when empire was released I was old enough to get what was going on. And my love for star wars grew from there.

I would honestly be surprised if she gets another contract extension at this point. Its just time for her to move on. And given that other than Harrison's Legends presentation she hasn't been doing much of any Lucas related appearances in 2024, its all been Filoni, it seems like she is being phased out and will retire at the end of the year.

It would be very smart of her to step away. Walk away now, take all the accolades that will come her way. "We wish Kathy all the best as she moves on to the next chapter in her hall of fame career."...... Why I'm not convinced is, she has an ego problem in my opinion. The acolyte can't be how she wants to end her tenure. Sure there's skeleton crew, but I'm not sure that does all that great. I already have friends and people who I talk about star wars with saying they won't watch it because of how acolyte turned out. And it getting cancelled doesn't help, they just don't want to get invested.

Why would she walk away now at the end of August 2024 when her contract is officially over in a little over 3 months, don't make sense. If she left early that would be more of an indication that she was forced out by Iger, rather than retired on her own. There were reports out last year that she wasn't actively seeking a renewal of her contract, and I don't see any indication that has changed. So no I don't see her being forced out early, especially with only 3 months left. And shows get cancelled all the time for all sorts of reasons, I doubt that Acolyte being cancelled would be a reason for her to change her mind and request another extension. Especially when it was likely her and Filoni that made the decision to cancel it. Again she hasn't been the public face of Lucas now for pretty much all of 2024, Filoni has. So I'm not seeing this ego problem that you are claiming she has. If she had an ego she'd be out there still as the public face of Lucas, but she hasn't. She has been fine to take the back seat and transition things over to Filoni, including all public engagements for Lucas. That is not ego, that is someone coming to the end of their career as they get ready to retire.

So no, I think she'll officially leave in December when the contract is up.

Interesting articles out there on The Acolyte out there today. Looks like there's a neat tax angle that Disney could indeed have its figurative cake (an unpopular show with a definite spin) and eat it too (using it as a tax write off by yet again removing its existence) just like they did with Willow.
