Given the new movie, I don't see why they wouldn't as sort of a tie in.
Little doubt they will do some tie in... but that doesn't solve the problem with Indy. As I understand it the rotating track at the beginning is the reason the ride has so much down time, and unless they redo that and make rather major modifications to the ride any tie in junk isn't going to make the ride more reliable. They have had issues pretty much since the ride opened and done lots of refurbs over the years, but never anything to address the reliability issues.

Track doesn’t rotate anymore, all projections.

But the track never moved, right? @thomas998, were you referring to the walls moving?

It’s always been an effect that was down more than up. Really cool in concept if you saw it but I maybe saw it 2X in 20 years. I don’t think it hurt the impact of the ride overall. The other broken effects do that. I haven’t been on it in awhile, but my friends say that it’s so bad they should close it now for major work.

Honestly, every time I've been on it I have only got the chamber of earthly riches. I am sure that's probably the case for a lot of people. Cool effect, but doesn't really effect the ride in the long run. Would not mind seeing this cut if it meant for a better ride experience.

I just worry about the factors that really make such a project such an uphill fight…

- Taking out a multi-generational favorite, so expectations are high
- taking down a capacity monster - so there is pressure on timelines
- a project started as a replacement, not because the concept was so strong on it’s own. Constraints alone are difficult, but to add in the pinch-hitter concept too? Alot of headwind there
- a project that requires touching basically everything in one of the largest attractions in the park. Basically scale alone makes properly funding a project like this difficult
- and now we are facing a financially competitive period where the company is facing huge external scrutiny and upheaval.

It would appear to do this well given the scale and pressures they would have to spend like it’s a marquee new attraction… not just a repurposed one. Do we have confidence that’s what the company is fully committed to?

Forget the target subject matter… just the big pieces make this a scary future to face

Yes, the walls are what moves. Though most people assume the track moves unless they've looked at one of the how it's done videos. I just went with what I expected people to be familiar with.

Yeah they have to hit the ground running. Maybe Disneyland will be able to survive capacity wise if the retheme runs into delays with construction however Magic Kingdom dosen't have this luxury. They less rides and attractions in said park.
Also we have to see how much they are changing on the inside since the entire structure is made out of concrete. I honestly feel the Laughing Place is the reason they chose the salt mine theme since there isn't much you can do with that part of the ride unless you open up the mountain and start pouring more concrete also you got to work around the Flume that's already there.

The issue of reliability in the "rotating track" was done away with years ago - the walls of the room are now fixed in place, and instead some Projection Mapping is used to indicate which of the three doors you're going through:

Can someone explain why they can’t just skip the scheduled Maintenance they normally do since they don’t care to upkeep it anyways, and keep it open until Tron is ready?

Doesn’t that make more sense from a capacity standpoint?

They are skipping the "scheduled maintenance" - instead of closing in January to recieve that as usual, this time the ride is closing for good. There won't be any maintenance to it beyond what is required to get the facility ready for its grand reopening as Tiana's Bayou Adventure.

As for the timing of the closure, it does seem odd that they wouldn't wait until TRON was online to close the ride, so presumably there's some reason for it. It may simply need to close in January if they want any real shot at reopening before the end of 2024, giving them just shy of 2 years to complete the transformation.

I think the opening of Tron helps absorb the crowds as a result of it's closure so perhaps thats why WDW is first

I’m pretty sure TRONs capacity is nowhere near splash mountains. Not that it’s relevant I actually wish they closed rides more often for real refurbs.

The MK needs a lot more capacity over all.

For all the people complaining about Splash’s lost capacity please stop. Rides need maintenance, and need to close sometime, they can’t run 365 forever without compromising safety. I know this isnt technically a close for maintenance but for cripes sake the “lost capacity” argument to stop a closure is as bad and as wrong as the “no not when I’m going that’s not fair!” argument. Please stop.
