If you can make a reasonable argument for why this re-theme is a good idea from a theme park perspective then I’m all ears.
I can still remember the time Savetoad's website went up to save Mr. Toads wild ride..And to this day it's still up and running. Were you equally angry about the closing of Great Movie Ride? Because that was even worse from a theme park perspective, considering it was essentially the core themed attraction of DHS.
I was upset Universe of Energy went away, if only for the amazing dinosaur animatronics getting reduced to scrap metal. Were you equally angry about the closing of Great Movie Ride? Because that was even worse from a theme park perspective, considering it was essentially the core themed attraction of DHS.
Also on XBox One/Series X/S digital store with normal controls (Kinect not required). Made by the Planet Coaster developer! And for DL, Disneyland Adventures on PC! Which used to be Kinect...
True. This is a unique situation where a major attraction was unfortunately based off of the ONE movie that could cause future troubles for it. If it had been based on The Rescuers, Robin Hood or—heck—the wonderful Paul Bunyan short, things would be different.I really don’t think we can separate out a “theme park perspective” from “some sort of social or political angle” for this. Those are tied together.
I actually believe all this emotional outcry will begin to slowly fade away starting tomorrow. Nothing lasts forever, especially anything theme park-related. When the rethemed mountain opens, everyone will excitedly line up to ride it. If the new version is great, there’ll be much happiness. If not, it’ll be a Frozen Ever After situation where diehard fans grumble—because that’s what diehard fans do—and the GP keeps lining up for it and enjoying it for what it is. The Big Drop will still be there.….However I have a feeling once the ride closes it will get worse. Then when Tiana opens the vitriol from the theme park community will get an adrenaline shot. Kind of depressing
Exactly. Which is why the debate, while interesting and provocative, will prove to be pointless. It is what it is.I’m afraid the defenders of the retheme will never acknowledge if it does turn out subpar, just as those opposed to this change will be reluctant to acknowledge if it is well done.
Splash evac'd again tonight. Man its not going quietly is it?
From a greedy business perspective, it's probably easier to replace since there's an existing since infrastructure is already there. I really hope this perspective soon though; it feels like Disney World is becoming more popular/crowded & what's in the parks can't keep up. Maybe there'd be better ride maintenance if closing one ride for a couple months wouldn't destroy wait times everywhere else. When you look at recent replacements, you have scratch your head and wonder why not expand and update instead of replace.
Theme parks aren’t important, and most of the world population couldn’t care less about any of this. We are a tiny, tiny group of theme park enthusiasts. Disney parks, for all we know, might not even still exist in 50 years. It’s bigger than all of those things combined because you can make a reasonable argument that it is top 5 all time themed attraction in the most important theme park on earth.
And now it’s time to move on.Splash Mountain did for 33 years.
Oh, believe me, if it turns out subpar, you will hear this retheme “defender” point out everything that stinks. People do not fall neatly into pigeonhole A or pigeonhole B, and I can simultaneously understand why Splash needs a retheme, miss the original Splash, look forward to Tiana’s Adventure, be disappointed that certain great elements of PatF probably won’t be used, AND be ready to either praise and/or criticize the end product.I’m afraid the defenders of the retheme will never acknowledge if it does turn out subpar, just as those opposed to this change will be reluctant to acknowledge if it is well done.
I think this is a salient point. I do think the other issues come into play to an extent, but if I’m not mistaken other rides that had been reskinned had long lost their popularity. Splash was still one of the most popular rides at the time this decision was made.I think the problem most are having with this and I’m going to watch my words carefully here but splash mountain was a very popular attraction so to close it for 2 years to do a rip and re-theme was not something needed, especially when more attractions need to be built, but it was decided on by Disney for other reasons, some of which falls in line with other things Disney has done in the recent years which some would argue has been unnecessary and causes controversy for the company.
I’m going to assume no one has any issue with a Princess and the Frog/Tiana themed attraction, they could make something fun from that movie for sure, it’s the decision to replace splash mountain in general with it, it being closed for so long, and why that is causing the backlash.
