We could quibble over whether or not forcing PATF into this ride was a good idea. But Facilier/Friends From the Other Side was a slam dunk. That they’ve moved away from that is…I just don’t get it.

Also, this is what the interior of the ride is shaping up to be:

“According to the backstory, the employee-owned food cooperative is housed inside the aging salt mine within the former Splash Mountain with growers planting crops along the waterway that flows around the famed mountain peak.”

Y’all they’re building LIVING WITH THE LAND

Wouldn't the heavy salt concentration from the abandoned mine kill the plants?

Or is that what plants crave?

The model and renderings underscore why it's difficult to make a structure specifically designed for one use, look like another.

Like Mission: BREAKOUT, there's only so much you can do with paint and decoration. In both cases, the end result doesn't look great.

The profile of Splash Mountain and position of its flume was designed to highlight the drop and make it look taller and scarier than it really was. Now they want to do the opposite by placing taller trees in the foreground and removing the pointy petrified tree on top and the briar patch at the base...but it still looks like a mountain with a prominent waterfall in the middle.

Look. We get it. But they're no longer going to refurb the ride as it currently exists anymore. They usually take it down for refurbishment during the winter. This year, that's about the same time Tron is likely to open. At that time, they'll take it down not only for refurbishment but also for the announced re-theme.

“According to the backstory, the employee-owned food cooperative is housed inside the aging salt mine within the former Splash Mountain with growers planting crops along the waterway that flows around the famed mountain peak.”

When reading this I pictured a group of perplexed imagineers, sitting in a boardroom after a meeting with Chapek, trying to figure out how to fulfill Bobs command to “turn Splash into Tiana and make sure it’s not offensive to anyone”.

This reads like a parody, it would have been right at home in the onion printed to mock the transition.

If reports are to be believed (which... you know... who knows?) Bob C. is actively trying to protect the company from this bullcrap that was planted by Bob I., but that something like this was already too public with too much momentum to do anything about.

"Whew, boy, hottest summer we have had here on the bayou in years! But not as hot as the Jazz music down in New Orleans! But up here at the salt mine, we are finding new ways to grow crops so we can truly be living with the land! But the good news is the stock market continues to progress forward with no sign of slowing down ... Well, some say a crash could happen, whatever that means. Speaking of crashing, you'll never guess who crashed my dinner party last night ... That's right, Uncle Orville! Well, as long as that Shadow Man don't come slinking around we'll be right as rain, why? 🎵 Because there's a great big beautiful tomorrow.... "

You're five minutes away from a very funny podcast episode, man. This is awesome.

I don’t know why they are trying so hard to make the mountain make sense. It didn’t really make sense as Splash in Georgia swamps, either.
Exactly what I said above -- it's a solution in search of a problem.

Alligators also don't play trumpets in Louisiana, nor do otters play fiddles. They don't need to explain a hill.
Yes, that is exactly where I am, too. It seems a bit backward to be focussing on how to thematically explain why the ride takes place in a mountain rather than what would make a fun Princess & the Frog thrill ride. This, of course, doesn't mean that what they've come up with can't also be fun, but it just seems so laboured and not intuitive in any sense. For a start, will there really be anyone who was suspicious of the ride because it took place in a mountain who is reassured because "of course! It takes place in one of those Louisiana salt mines!"?

Reminding everyone of Splash isn't a good idea, period. It just reminds everyone of what used to be there. Obviously, fans and Pepperidge Faaahms remembers (ha ha) but its like it pokes you right between the eyes. Just retheme and move on.
