Is this the future of every Disney ride moving forward? I enjoy WDW as a means of escape. Do I need the back story that Tiana's company is employee-owned so I can enjoy it more, knowing she is not exploiting her workers? Good night...what a world.
This feels like an epic troll move, TBH. Like, you remake two entire rides because of uncomfortable associations, and then you create a ride for your only African American Princess that 1) is a thrill ride that’s imposing to many people, kids and adults alike, with one of the most stringent height requirements, and 2) set it in salt mines with a wel documented history of using slave labor and indentured servants.
Did anyone think through these implications, both practically (little princesses won’t be able to ride, or will be too afraid to) and thematically (historical associations with the real life analogue)?
She's not a restauranteur in this timeline, she runs an agricultural conglomerate.Restaurant servers make less than minimum wage on the condition they can make up for it in tips. Restaurant staff have an unbelievably high turnover rate. What exactly does "employee owned" mean? Does every employee have a permanent share of Tiana's company?
That's just where my mind was going. What does Disney want us to believe here?
So it’s a Pinocchio ride, then? Where will Monstro be?They had all the ingredients (eh?) for the perfect ride. Fireflies, a bayou, Mama Odie, friends on the other side....I'll reserve judgement until we know what will be inside, just not sure how that will all tie into...salt mines.
It’s hilarious on multiple levels that they shoved that irrelevant piece of info into the backstory. Firstly, there’s the irony of a gigantic, publicly traded media conglomerate implying that traditionally structured corporations are exploitative. And then there’s the fact that Disney is effectively apologizing in advance for a decision they are making now. They didn’t inherit this story. They could’ve kept Tiana as the successful small-business owner she always wanted to be in the film. But they so badly wanted to get the salt mine in there that they forced a story they anticipated garnering criticism, and are trying to shield themselves from it with nonsense explanations. Is this the future of every Disney ride moving forward? I don’t know why they are trying so hard to make the mountain make sense. It didn’t really make sense as Splash in Georgia swamps, either. It’s hilarious on multiple levels that they shoved that irrelevant piece of info into the backstory. The original press release promised an experience which offered all the charms of New Orleans as a backdrop. They had all the ingredients (eh?) for the perfect ride. I heard that they’re just testing the waters (no pun intended) with the salt mine idea, and if people take issue with it, they’ll just change Tiana’s business to Plan B — a sweatshopThey’re really leaning into the salt mine thing, huh? That’s amazing! Hope no one has Google (or an adequate education in US history).
And putting aside the specific history of this particular location, am I the only one familiar with the idioms “working in a salt mine” or “back to the salt mine” to describe laboring in a depressing, repetitive, and/or exploitative environment?
Well, at least as a business owner in 1927 America, it’s all smooth sailing ahead for Tiana. Not a cloud in the sky as we glide into the next, promising decade.
You know this thread is unique with regards to what is and isn't permitted. But consider yourself reported.Okay so then report it and every other post on this entire website and have it removed. Ive been here for over 2 decades and EVERY thread has gone off topic but this one bc it of its roots gets people who have certain views annoyed and whining to stay on topic…
OC Register did a big spill of info regarding the ride. https://www.ocregister.com/2022/09/...e-tianas-bayou-adventure-details-at-d23-expo/Are they actually not using music from the movie?

I think they’ll use some, but that’s not confirmed. They did announce there are going to be new songsAre they actually not using music from the movie?
We could quibble over whether or not forcing PATF into this ride was a good idea. But Facilier/Friends From the Other Side was a slam dunk. That they’ve moved away from that is…I just don’t get it.OC Register did a big spill of info regarding the ride. https://www.ocregister.com/2022/09/...e-tianas-bayou-adventure-details-at-d23-expo/
the bolded text specifically has implictly led us to believe friends from the other side will not be in it. No one has super concrete evidence though so who knows.
I was told on the Disneyland thread that Facilier is, himself, problematic. We could quibble over whether or not forcing PATF into this ride was a good idea. But Facilier/Friends From the Other Side was a slam dunk. That they’ve moved away from that is…I just don’t get it.
