I will have to disagree with you about Disney going cheap, the main reason they are doing this is to reduce operating costs, maintenance upkeep on both these attractions are very expensive. AA's are expensive to maintain, so they may add some new AA figures but I'm guessing more of the Little Mermaid ride style. I think WDW Splash Mountain has 59 AA figures and I'm sure it will end up less than ten.

They are just giving it this politically correct excuse now because it fits, but it always about the money!! not what guests want.

I am kind of hoping we get an AA like the ones they’re putting in the Beauty and the Beast ride. At least one or two of those. If you gotta go w less at least make them quality!

I appreciate the support, but I don’t really need it. All it takes is one person with an opinion, and a change.org petition.
Remember: “Together, I can do it!”

Nah, not at all. I don't feel threatened in the least. My opinion is certainly in the minority in today's world and even in this forum. And I'm good with that. Sensationalism.... LOL. Look around at the new world. I'm just calling it as it is, I'm not creating it. Of course people fight for changes and many times changes are very positive for society as a whole. But sometimes they are not. Sometimes changes are made just for the controversy and upsetting the status quo. Having a world view that says there can be no opposition or differing opinions is not a free and just world. I personally don't feel like changing an attraction that is beloved by the majority will change anything. Change comes from within our beings, not from an amusement park attraction.
I don’t think they are trying to spur social change by reskinning a log flume ride. This is tasteful modernization and synergy, that also happens to drive efforts of inclusivity and representation of an increasingly diverse consumer base and world... that‘s really all there is to it. As we grow as a society and learn more about how things adversely affect others, what’s considered just and appropriate changes. There’s nothing wrong with adapting, except that many fail to do so and get left behind as a result.

To paint social progress in a fearful or extremist light is sensationalism. Yes, the woke olympics on Twitter can be stupid, but this is not that.

Thanks but no thanks.
It's an excellent podcast about old hollywood and an even more thorough insight on the troupes and roots of the traditions upon which song of the south was built and epitomizes. Really encourage people to listen, its eye opening.

There is now a change.org petition to remove the drop from the Tower of Terror. This is real. This is happening.
All it takes is a change.org petition, and you can do anything. Please sign the petition to change the tower so everyone (me!) can enjoy it.

So what does it become? Room of boredom?

My guess is we will get at least one or two really nice new AAs, reuse of the animal AAs (some of them), new projection effects and mist fog effects and maybe a few new lower quality AAs like Mermaid.

I think they’ll keep the riverboat from the current ride and just retheme it.

I think at this point arguing over whether Splash Mountian should be removed has run its course. The change is gonna happen. The bigger fear, I think, is that this overlay could be cheap and bad compared to Splash Mountian, which is why I think they should be keeping as many of these animatronics as they should. They probably won’t though :/

Others have said it better: "Aesop and Uncle Remus had taught us that comedy is a disguised form of philosophical instruction; and especially when it allows us to glimpse the animal instincts lying beneath the surface of our civilized affectations."

Thanks for posting this!

Also it’s great they are bringing back Tony Baxter to contribute to the project. But let’s face it: He’s white. MLK wanted a color blind society. Not good enough in today’s environment. I’m sure there will be minority imagineers working on it. Fine with me. All will give their best. But other bean counters will be calculating the ratiio. And if not enough to their liking after the retheme heads will roll.

Disney is way, way ahead of you.

If racism and offensiveness were the real reasons of change, wouldn't a nod or tribute within kind of deafeat the purpose of removing it? We took out that ride that might remind you of some incensative things in Song of the South, but here are some things to remember about the thing we don't want you to remember anymore.
In short, no. Many of the animatronics used in Splash were repurposed from America Sings originally. You can do away with the cringey story, while still tastefully nodding to the nostalgia/charm of the original attraction experience. I can’t see them moving forward on this project without doing that.

Hopefully those anamatronics can stay and just sing new songs

I am a liberal. I think publicly displaying the confederate flag is terrible. I also think parts of our history is terrible and it’s about time the real Columbus is portrayed to those who didn’t know his doings. However, changing this ride due to a vocal minority is wrong and dangerous. Will me having the picture below on my wall be seen as flying a confederate flag? I hope not. What about wearing a Splash Mountain shirt at the park? Will you get asked to turn it inside out? What’s next on this slippery slope? Tom Sawyer Island? Some of the parts on the railroad? Country Bears? Come to think of it, the golden age of Hollywood was racist, sexist and full of violence. You couldn’t be LGBT and if you were pregnant and not married the studios would force issues. Let’s get rid of Hollywood Studios too.

I better take my picture down. Again I am a bleeding heart liberal and I have these views. This is scarier than the virus.

I had to run...but just wanted to quote this post and say how much I agreed with it.
I’m a VERY liberal person, but this is dangerous. I support tearing down the statues, but it’s a slippery slope...
