Splash Mountain falling apart (literally?)

Just dropping in for a quick comment as today is a work day and I can't play like I'd like, but I've skimmed thru the comments and it would 'seem' that Disney has done a standup job on refurbing Splash Mtn. I won't say that is totally the case until I ride it later this spring and I won't say it period if the logs still reek of BO from 2002. Sorry, Disney, keeping ride vehicles clean nightly IS just part of the cost of doing business that you forgot about.

And while I'll be happy if Disney did a bangup job on this (they also did on Mansion and HoP, so we all know it is possible), I won't be screaming their praise from the rafters of MAGIC because all they've done is what should have been done a long, long time ago.

When fans get lathered up over BASIC and REQUIRED upkeep on attractions and fixing years of NEGLECT, well ... that ain't me. They're just doing what I pay for and what I expect. I am sorry if others have diminished expectations or less discerning standards.
Be happy they did something major right. ;) At least...today.

Wow, I'm not a WDW park regular as a Canadian, but I now really understand all the complaints about how bad it was. I was at WDW in Dec and DL last week and as an aside, the WDW Splash is amazing looking from that video now! I agree it honestly looks like they plussed it!

As an aside the Disneyland Splash needs a refurb as well compared to this, just based on what I recently recall.

Hmm I think the logs could of used some more work during the refurb. I just saw a friend of mine on facebook post that the ride broke down while they were on it and that CM's came and told them that their log was actually sinking...

While I am all for ride quality.... I am weird and think "why does that never happen to me?!?!" I don't want SM to be shutdown but how cool would it be to get to be evacuated through the ride?

Kali is not a crown jewel of a park. And effect per effect Splash certainly looked worse because of visible broken items and infastructure issues. Where as Kali's wow effects gone just leaves it a water ride.

It does look like the water cannon pointed towards boats right before they go up the second lift aren't as intense. Instead of just dumping a bucket-full of water on guests, it releases more of a mist than an actual deluge by the time it reaches the boats passing by. I think that's a good thing and the best of both worlds. The water cannon still functions but it just doesn't get guests soaked (the one pointed towards the bridge in front probably gets you wetter than the one on the side).

Too bad it's already down. While riding the train I saw maitenance walking around the steamboat.

Big Thunder is also down.
Uh oh... Though Splash has always been temperamental and prone to breaking down or stopping even when it was brand new (i've ridden MANY times, including when it was first opened and it has often broken down). Though I hope it's nothing major wrong with it at this point.

I think it was said that Big Thunder was down a lot yesterday as well (and Pirates I believe).

A quick note towards keeping Splash in this condition, and also making sure future refurbs are budgeted and scheduled to this type of full quality:

If you're in the park in the next few months, stop by City Hall and comment on the refurb. Make sure they take a comment that gets put in the system noting how good it looks, how good it sounds, how you noticed this refurbishment is above what they normally look like, how it hasn't looked like this since opening...etc., etc.

It does make a difference.

And don't forget mentioning the new sheriff who makes it all happen. :)

Like I said earlier, totally normal. When you're wearing in new sensors and new show action equipment, the ride is going to go down more than normal for the first few weeks as everything gets adjusted. Shouldn't be anything major. Unless something major does go wrong. ;)

I doubt Kalogridis had much if anything at all to do with this refurb. It was scheduled and had a budget approved before he became WDW president. All he had to do was not interfere with it (and he may not have been able to do much to interfere anyways).

What will be much more telling of his new regime will be what the ride looks like months down the road, whether it continue to look and function the way it does now. The triumph of this refurb will be short lived if it isn't kept in this condition.
