Spirited Special II: DHS Guardians Tower Not Dead; DL to Trade Nostalgia For Star Wars Pyro

I've been a Star Wars fan since 1977, but Disney is well on its way to beat that out of me.

Hyperfocused overkill is what this company does best. They did it with Winnie the Pooh, Stitch, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, Pirates, Toy Story, Nemo, they would've done it with Marvel were it not for Universal, and they're determined to do it with Star Wars.

It's like they can only focus on one property at a time. Utterly sad for a company that promotes its creative legacy.

Tuning in from CA wine country where I married off daughter #3. And this is what I end up with for the latest news and rumors. Seriously getting sick to my stomach re: DIS.

On the plus side, I got to meet my stepson's girlfriend who is a "friend of Anna" at Disneyland and regaled us with some princess experiences that were quite hilarious.

Flawless summary of Eisner's tenure. Although personally speaking, I will say Cars land definitely lives up to the best of the Eisner era. Mystic Manor seems to as well just judging by the videos.
Cars Land as an environment is impressive, and RSR is a great ride. So is Mystic Manor.

Still, i'm inclined to give some of the higher tier Eisner era rides an advantage. Splash Mountain (at least the WDW and Tokyo versions) is a favorite of mine, i'll probably get some negativity for this view but I personally place it above RSR as a single ride experience. RSR has incredible rockwork and is a great ride, but the massive animatronic population and charming sets designed meticulously from the animated Brer Rabbit cartoons are wonderful. I'd also rank Indiana Jones Adventure above Mystic Manor (or Great Movie Ride, an early trackless experience again with tons of intricate sets and advanced animatronics). I also adore Kilimanjaro Safari, which I rank among some of the best Disney rides out there. Plus there's Journey to the Center of the Earth and Sinbad at Tokyo DisneySea.

Wait I'm confused. DHS Tower isn't safe anymore?

I don't think it ever was safe however with the strong rumors of GOTG going into energy one would assume it is safer than it was 4 months ago. I'm interested to know if something has changed now for GOTG In Epcot.

This!

I thought I was pretty clear on that OP as it took longer to post than I would have liked. But the WDW deal is this: Guardians to EPCOT is absolutely NOT a done deal, despite the online chatter, the height balloon tests and, most importantly, the folks at Disney desperate to leak it.

AND ... WDI's plans for re-theming (as if you could) WDW's Tower are out there and remain favoured by Chappie, even if they wouldn't be able to start for at least 2-2.5 years from now after Pandora and TSL are open at the resort.

It all is simply a question of what will happen first. Will the EPCOT project get that green light? Will it stall and enable the Tower plans for WDW to be pushed through? Will new leadership come to the company in time to make neither an option (my choice!)?

Sorry, I have no answers on this one.

Im sure they spend way more time deleting comments than they do on the time spent writing their blog posts.

I wish there were a love button (I may have a few personal ones!) for posts like this.

So true. It is, as Duncan Wardle famously crowed in that video from a good 7-9 years ago now ... the one that helped raise my dander (and at my age, that takes more than it used to!) about social media, BRAND advocates and the fan community, about the ability of the company to drown out any messages that are not on point or against the point. No negativity is allowed. Everything is simply MAGICal. All the time.

Juicy! Details??

Nothing more at present. But much has already been talked about here ... from the Fantasyland expansion with Frozen E-Ticket (also headed for TDS) among multiple attractions ... to the Captain America coaster hybrid for DCA among multiple attractions.

Anaheim is now in a place where constantly new product will be coming on an annual basis. Whether you like it ... or whether it is in the right place (and I fundamentally do not believe SW or Marvel are being handled in their best interests or the best interests of the resort's future) those are personal feelings.

But hey ... WDW did get Frozenstrom, right? Oh, and they borrowed SDL's new Soarin film too! And let's not forget Tiffins and Ample Hill Creamery. And how about that new Flying Fish menu that only took off the two most popular items that the place has been known for the last two decades? And I saw a headline here that the foam heads in the stage show will get seasonal costumes. And that is absolutely reason enough to blow $8,000 on a MAGICal week at Da World. Oh wait ... I am ranting and I am supposed to be on holiday!

ToT is not changing at DHS.

Personally, I don't care what they do to Universe of Energy at Epcot. That ride is terrible. Did love it when it first opened.

Universal holding the rights in Florida is a blessing in disguise. I do so hope the rumors of the super hero island are true, it would give a rare chance to see the two companies basically create rides for the same thing (Marvel GotG vs Avengers) and the competion should be fierce as all get out -- I'd hope, at least you'd hope it would be. I'm very impressed so far with what they did to Hulk.

I still do not know why Guardian Of The Galaxy matters. Never saw it - vaguely remember hearing about it .. was the movie some huge mega hit that has made some tremendous cultural impact?? I have been living under a rock?

Avatar, I understand the appeal and I am a fan.
Star Wars, I understand the appeal and am a fan.
Guardians Of The Galaxy has zoomed over my head. WHO is the target audience?

The two best attractions at EPCOT were destroyed. Horizons should *never* have been touched. The original Imagination was also amazing. I don't care what happens to Universe of Energy at this point. Let Guardians take over Ellen's Energy Adventure and leave Tower alone. Glad to see WDW might be spared the rework.

I guess I have to watch the Guardians movie. Maybe it's spectacular.
The best way I can explain it's popularity is that I have a friend who has zero interest in 'superhero movies'. He begrudgingly liked the Nolan "Batman" trilogy because it was "bad-" (his highest man-compliment) but on a whim saw GOTG and loved it. Why? "Because it was just sooo stupid, it was fun." My wife likes it because of Groot (especially dancing baby Groot "He's sooooo cute") and she doesn't like superhero movies very much. For me, it's all about the Howard cameo...
Seriously, I'm surprised it did the business it did.
