Spirited Special II: DHS Guardians Tower Not Dead; DL to Trade Nostalgia For Star Wars Pyro

See, this is a weird issue.

Either destroy a fantastic attraction in a terrible park or destroy a terrible attraction in a fantastic park (although, it's not as fantastic as it used to be). It's a paradox.

In my opinion, I'd MUCH rather see Universe of Energy be taken over for several reasons. For one, Tower of Terror is phenomenal, no explanation needed. UoE, on the other hand, is a 35 minute attraction that is, let's face it, boring. You know you've done something wrong when 3/4 of the people in your row are either sleeping or playing Pokémon GO. :cyclops:

Second, I know SO many people are going to argue "But UoE has SUCH a great capacity!!!". Well, I hate to break it too ya, but a ride with a great capacity really doesn't have great capacity when 5/6 of the seats aren't full. Last week, there were just enough people in there to fill one out of the six cars. While it may be the last remaining remnant of EPCOT Center and edutainment, it's just too long and a colossal waste of space in comparison to how many people experience the attraction per hour.

Third, you need to think about theming. While Guardians really fits in horribly in both places, you need to think of which one is horrendous and then which one is slightly less horrendous. :hilarious: Anything can be described in one line, including films, television shows, plays, theme park attractions, etc. Guardians of the Galaxy can be described as "A band of unlikely heroes join together to fight villains throughout the intergalactic systems, creating peace throughout the Galaxy" or something along those lines (I'm horrible at making these, if you couldn't tell :D). Now, I know it goes against EPCOT's original message/theming, but would that fit better in a loose representation of the future/space (or whatever hodgepodge is currently in Future World) or 1930's Hollywood? You have to pick and choose. While they're both horrible options, one needs to figure out which one is worse than the other. Now, I know people will be point out flaws in this argument, but you just have to think it through, especially when the nut jobs that are Disney Executives won't create a freaking new attraction. :banghead:

Finally, I'd much rather them go all out with a big-budgeted E-Ticket (albeit in the wrong place) over a less expensive re-skinning of Tower of Terror. It's what the IP deserves IMO.

And, like all of you, I'd MUCH prefer a new attraction (or mini-land) in DHS over either of these options. But, if we can only get one of the first two options, I'd prefer UoE.
Epcot is currently the worst Disney park in the country.

Worse than DHS? I respectfully disagree. There's plenty of quality attractions to fill a day at Epcot, whereas DHS has only a handful of rides and a few crappy shows. I feel that despite the efforts to fix DHS, it still won't be enough. Epcot, probably comes in second to last on the list, but tied with DCA, in my opinion. All three parks need desperate help.

If you don't want it updated, that.s great. I'm saying it needs an update. I'm using the 4:3 aspect ration 420p television as a reference to the show being out of tune.

Personal opinion...
It was terrible when they put Ellen in the opening act, it's still terrible. I love Ellen...just hate what they did to Universe of Energy.

What are you talking about? How does Bill Nye still being a public figure have anything to do with the never stated position of leaving Ellen's Energy Adventure forever untouched?

But George took a stand... does that mean he will be purged soon???
He is a parks guy. He is already irrelevant and already sold out in order to move up as high as ever possible.

I can go to Epcot at 5 PM and be happy with the amount of time spent there. Having said that, it's a pretty close call between Epcot and DHS for me but DHS has a clear path to fixing that park. Part of my opinion is that I also fear for Epcot's future.

I can't believe I have to say this...but they can have ToT. That whole park is already f'ed up six ways to sunday and is basically starting over...let's leave Epcot be for the love of all things sacred...
It's too late for that. Whether the Guardians project is approved or not, Epcot, as we know it, will cease to exist very soon. We're already seeing that change with Maelstrom->Frozen. From what it sounds, and the actions by the company, there is little, if any, resistance from execs to shove IPs anywhere the eye can see. Therefore, it's only a matter of time. I wouldn't hold out any hope for a new CEO either. The Parks culture has changed, and it is clear which direction rolls in the money. Unless Iger's replacement is a massive Parks fan (he/she won't be), the Parks will continue in the same direction (IP-wise).

This is a difficult reality to swallow, but it is reality.

Iger & Company's new slogan for Epcot.
I just can't pin this on one guy. It's the whole 'appeal to the masses' thing. For a yuuuge entertainment company like Disney to succeed on the level they need to, and do it safely economics-wise, they HAVE TO appeal to as big a number of folks as they can. If they aim to uplift, be 'smart', or to try to educate, they'll risk shooting over a bunch of folks heads or interests and losing business. Basically they give the people what they want. Now, is it their role to 'lead and enrich'? Not if you are like most businesses and are only in it for the bucks. The damning thing in all of this that the general public seems to want a dumbed-down, fun only, payout from Disney and their vacation time. Obviously, when you look at what EPCOT was originally going to be and was for a long time, along with what the Studios was (sort of) and AK still is to a great degree, the public's 'wants' have generally changed. Now I know someone is going to say "Hey, not me/us." Well, kudos to you sir/madam, you are in a shrinking minority.

It's not what they'd be doing to UoE that matters, it's what changing UoE into a superhero attraction would do to Epcot.

What is Epcot now?
Walt Disney said, ""EPCOT will take its cue from the new ideas and new technologies that are now emerging from the creative centers of American industry. It will be a community of tomorrow that will never be completed, but will always be introducing, and testing, and demonstrating new materials and new systems. And EPCOT will always be a showcase to the world of the ingenuity and imagination of American free enterprise."

It certainty isn't that. Epcot feels like you are transported back to a future version of 1982. Or, you have been dropped into a scene from the 1960's H.G. Well's film "The Time Machine."

The last time they tried to incorporate the tech of the present was in 2003. Mission Space happened 13 years ago ago ago ago......

I'm with you, I wish they would create rides or refresh rides to engage our imaginations to what will be...what might come.
But the future ideas are scary.
This is what will come in the future....
1. Biological implants for everyday use. Memory implants, save our thoughts on a computer. Communication implants, we will no longer need phones. Implants from GE that help us start cars, turn on our lights.
2. Designer babies. We can get rid of Alzheimer's, increase babies intelligence by 15%, and give you a choice of eye color all for the low cost of $450,000.
3. Computers take over jobs. Drones, kiosks (in restaurants, movie theaters, ect.), self driving cars, boats.
4. Three companies run the world. Facebook, Amazon,Google. (In the 70's it would have been Kodak, G.E., Exxon(Standard Oil)
5. New Pokemon games using Google glass.

Epcot can't stay the way it is....not sure what they will do. I wouldn't be surprised if they turn it into a traditional theme park. Writing has been on the wall for some time.

What would a 10 year old boy want to ride? An E-ticket adventure into Guardians of the Galaxy. A family adventure into the world of Zootopia? Or a refreshed Universe of Energy with Ellen and Bill Nye the Science Guy with new and exciting questions from Alex Trebek?

Who wins? Bill Nye and his laser gun or....

GOTG as a movie, to me, isn't re-watchable the same way other classics are. I just wanted to throw that in there after seeing it for a second time a few weeks ago and thinking "meh".

RnRC is the BEST possible fit for this, it's a rollercoaster, can be themed to space (and then they should shut down and repair space mountain at MK which needs it BADLY), it's a movie so it fits DHS and it's fiction, which doesn't fit in Epcot.

And for the love of all that is Mickey, DON'T touch DHS's TOT!!!!!

.

Sorry about that, You are talking about if Bill Nye is still known from his show from 93-98. 18 years ago?
I have know idea if kids still know who he is. My kids are 4 and wouldn't have a clue.

I was just saying the ride needs to be updated or changed. I never liked the Ellen addition back in the 90s. I like Ellen, just not the update.

So, my apologies, I was talking about something else completely different.

I feel like this is something I would do to my boys.
Me: We're going to Kohl's to go back to school shopping.
Them: I don't wana go to Kohl's
Me: Then we need to clean the house instead.
Either way they better through in an ice cream to make us happy.

The future has ALWAYS been scary, the unknown is what's scary. Yes biological implants is the way the future is heading but why be scared of that? Artificial Pacemakers have been around since 1958, and they've allowed many humans to live much longer. You can have a choice of what you want for your body, however i wouldn't count on them allowing humans to live forever. A lot of the things you listed is really just fearing the unknown and things that really isn't relevant. Future world is suppose to showcase the genius ideas that will allow humans to thrive and celebrate humanity as a whole. Does that mean Future world has to mention deadly future weapons? No, it does not. EPCOT is suppose to INSPIRE the public, and give hope toward the future.
“Only Thing We Have to Fear Is Fear Itself”"

Agree with what you are saying. Future is going to happen, can't stop it.
Will Disney build those type of rides? We shall see. I think they will opt for the safer play.
Also... What did you mean when you said this,
"You can have a choice of what you want for your body, however i wouldn't count on them allowing humans to live forever."

Who is them? Those guys sound scarier then what I said. :)

My recent trip to Epcot left me with a similar attitude. Futureworld is an embarrassment. Even my beloved Living with the Land is getting so outdated it's painfull. The Seas is a nice pavillion but the Nemo ride is cringeworthy.

But having said that, The World showcase still rivals Animal Kingdom as the most enjoyable and best themed Disney experiences(omitting that crapfest in Norway)

I love World Showcase. I love walking around looking at all the various forms of architecture, and browsing the shops, and eating at the restaurants (except the Marrekesh one, not my kind of food, bleeeahhh), and seeing the attractions (oh, Maelstrom, how you're missed), and talking with the CMs from different countries. It's a real treat, especially for adults. But...I have to say, after seeing what the Imagineers did with Frozen...I wouldn't mind rides based on Disney fantasies in their appropriate countries of origin, like Mary Poppins in Great Britain, and Mulan in China...IF they represented the countries culture in a respectful way, and if the rides were stellar. And I think such things are going to happen anyway. I just hope I can still enjoy WS after it all comes down...things change, but changes can be good and bad. I know I won't enjoy DHS if the Tower goes and Hollywood Boulevard is trashed. I want that area of Old Hollywood to remain, it's AWESOME, and One Man's Dream should remain too, because Walt was an important part of Old Hollywood. All those things, plus Fantasmic and the excellent Brown Derby restaurant, were the reasons DHS used to be my favorite land in WDW. NONE of the changes coming to it have me excited, only incredulous and sad. Man, this year has been a downer so far for WDW news...

the biological implants, i don't think they can really stop the process of aging, just delay the natural process of dieing. We as humans have basically stopped our evolution process due to the fact that we are keeping every one alive as long as possible, this means that natural selection cannot function because all BAD and GOOD mutations are kept in our gene pool. So we basically have to evolve our selves through the use of our technology and scientific knowledge. Our bodies just aren't meant to live 100 years without running into some sort of cancer or mental disability like alzheimer's because we haven't physically evolved to the point of living to 100 years yet. I know depressing rant ^_^ (changes subject)

Maybe Disney can do a ride about having younger people's blood transfused into older people's veins. A process called parabiosis. Peter Thiel seems excited about it.

I recently watched this documentary called "Decoding Immortality". Scientists have found a way to not only repair DNA, but to make it young again. The catch? The same process that makes DNA young again can trigger cancer. So scientists wonder if the reason we age is because it's a way to stop cancer from developing, so that we'll actually live longer. One of those miserable two-edged-sword things...
