They would be foolish not to sell some shares here. They aren't like fanbois who own shares up and down just so they can say they own the company. It's always prudent to rebalance and take profits.

Bulls make money, bears make money, pigs get slaughtered.

Also those movies are expected to do very well and are already incorporated into the share price. The stock would fluctuate if they fell far below or far exceeded estimates.

I've heard some folks spout similar tales of John. I believe they are likely true to a point. You can't be as successful as he's been in a tough business and not start thinking how amazing you are. ... I don't agree with everything the man says or does ... or every creative decision he backs ... but I do believe he is the closest thing to a Walt at the company at a high level. Quality and doing things right matter to John. And that is a huge thing nowadays.

It will be a major loss to Disney when JL decides to retire, which may well happen sooner than many think.
It's possible that some of the rumors around Lasseter are planted leaks. He's not playing ball the way Iger & co. want him to. In business, like politics, often the best way to counteract this is to plant seeds of doubt about someone's character.

If Lassiter were to leave, would it hurt the Disney brand?

Is it too early to take guesses on how well its opening will do? I think another family movie released that day will top it.
I'm assuming you are referring to Despicable Me 2? It comes out then too right? I think it'll definitely be interesting to see how The Lone Ranger does. It's definitely anecdotal, but I've been totally surprised how many people I know who have voiced an interest in seeing it. It's a lot of older people who either grew up with the show or saw reruns. My dad has already said he wants to bring my brothers and I to see it (me nearly 25, brothers 23, 21). And there are quite a few I know who want to bring their younger kids as to quote "it's hard to go wrong with cowboys and indians." And others just plain like Johnny Depp.

That all being said, I wouldn't be surprised if DM 2 beats it. I think it was always predicted to wasnt it? Lone Ranger just seems hard to pin down, and I havent seen the tracking on it yet. Anyone know the trends for the holiday when an animated family film has been released against a live action one? Has that happened?

I by no means disagree with that statement, however they've been selling off large chunks of their shares over the past couple of years.

Haha. I like that movie. It's ridiculous. And weird. But fun ;).

I will say I thought Dark Shadows was poorly marketed. It didnt have the Disney marketing machine behind it and Disneh surely is trying hard... Can't have another John Carter now can they ;)
I still haven't seen much for The Lone Ranger.

Just shows that since these two got all they can get out of the company ,it would be wise of them to pull their resources out of the ship while they can since they obviously don't care what happens after they are gone.
Long gone are the days when the Company's leader gambled his life Insurance policy money to fund Disneyland.
Just hope they enjoy their retirement or new career when the new people are left behind to clean up their mess.
Yeah but as far as I know, Iger and Rasulo have not started up a secret company and hired away Disney employees to work for them. Nor are they using studio tools, equipment, supplies and office space rent free. The shareholders seem to be pleased with the return on their investment. Walt, on the other hand, felt the shareholders deserved little and that's what he gave them. Until he got caught.

From what I've observed from friends and how different audiences have reacted to the trailers for these films, I think Despicable Me 2 will probably top Lone Ranger. I don't think it will necessarily be due to one being better than the other, but audiences seem to be more excited to see DM 2. I've yet to see an audience elicit a positive reaction or any emotional response from a Lone Ranger trailer. DM 2's trailers have played well in my experience. For context, I see about 15-20 films in theaters in a given year. I think a big factor at play for the family audience will be if parents think Lone Ranger is appropriate for the youngins, the tweets from Cardon Walker suggest otherwise (Yay cannibalism!!:cool: ). If the word of mouth on the appropriateness is not in LR's favor, then it seems likely that lots of folks will be spending their 4th of July weekends with Gru & co.

Maybe I'm missing something, but isn't Card Walker dead? The guy tweets from beyond the grave? Now that's impressive;).
