Fixing the beast requires two main things:
1) Money.
2) Desire to fix it.

As of right now, I see little evidence of either.

Not directed at you, Lee, but at the situation. Thanks for the reply!

I'm back from my 0.43% month long vacation to the mountains of Afghanistan and am getting completely caught up. Does the DAK makeover budget also include a few $$$ to finally fix the yeti? I get that fixing it would be expendable but it would be a nice acknowledgement of the problem. Thanks!

Welcome back, and thanks again for all you do. And I was happy to see your ball coach call out Ohio State and Urban Meyer on their strength of schedule. Someone needed to say it...

But the point is that the info about the newest status - not being cancelled - was out there.

And just as @articos had pointed out in the other thread, the project did go through to a number of phases. So, most likely if you go back to March or February the information put out then was correct at that time. And that holds true for everything those insiders post: projects are fluid, even things that were announced have not come through or have been changed.

You're absolutely right. All I'm saying is that @Tim_4 has what is right most recently. What he's saying now could change today, and he would admit that. But to say (and not necessarily referring to you here) that he's speaking only in generalities that have been discussed here forever is less than true, at best.

its days like this that make me glad im an outsider...to me its pretty simple @Tim_4 is saying 800 million budget for DAK Full Day and part of that is Avatar..and im pretty sure he was saying this was the budget and scope of said project long before anyone else

projects are fluid thats why its tough to be an insider without getting ripped anytime something changes which is and has been prevalent in avatar

i think everybody agrees the project is moving forward for a price tag around 400 million or so

Is the C boat ride back on? It appeals to me more than the rumored soarin style simulator.
A "C" is in but I don't know what form it is. The E-ticket is very much NOT a Soarin' style simulator.

And I've admitted very recently that the nighttime show I had considered a lock might not be as definite as I had assumed.

That.

But as a caveat...
Everything but the Avatar stuff is expendable if the budget requires it.

Understood. I do hope, however, that they have some sort of nighttime entertainment if they want the park to be a full day. There needs to be something that is a big draw in the evening. If the show gets pulled from the budget, I hope a parade is developed instead (which I would think would be more affordable than building a WoC lake and theater).

If the total budget is 800 mill than i have to assume something more is coming to dak beyond avatar

I just wanted to post about a point several people have made in several threads in relation to Team Disney Orlando's bonus structure.

It is erroneous to believe that bonus' in any private industry aren't tied directly to financial performance. To believe that Disney is somehow unique or that TDO is especially evil because of this is silly.

Of course I too question their motives, but lets try to be realistic. The bonus structure of an executive group is going to be tied to how much moolah rolled in the door, not on if cool stuff was done.

Why? Disney had repeatedly shown their ability to blow through cash.

People throw around numbers on here that I find very hard to believe. 800 million is a ton of money. A metropolitan district could build an eight city block state of the art convention center and a handful of hotels for less.

It is obvious to me when people say "need to dump a couple billion" into a theme park that reality has left the station.

No see, when I said all those things, the general consensus was "Avatar has been cancelled or greatly reduced." EVERYONE was saying that, including the revered "insiders." They were incorrect.
The budget.... For just Avatar or the whole DAK project? Including FOTLK and what may or may not accompany it at its new location? I'm guessing if its more than half a billion it's the latter?

I'm still hearing the night project (sadly) is stalled. Which again as an educated guess would be the 1.2b knocked down to 800m all in?

This is the same economy where it costs $100 million to build a highway overpass.. or 1 billion to build a single sports arena.. a single school can cost $60 million... a single traffic light installation can cost $100k-$200k

The concept of money is so distorted now... people have no comprehension of just how much a million of something is anymore.

It may be a ton, but if anybody can blow through it, it is Disney.
