I'll take your very fair question and raise you one or more ... Like why can UNI create an E-Ticket in 11 months, but Disney needs six years for Avatar? Or why does it take the same amount of time to build a kiddie coaster that it will take to build a MK park, two resort hotels, a DD-like complex and assorted infrastructure in Shanghai? Or why does it take five years to expand Fantasyland in 2009-14, but it only took three to build EPCOT Center from 1979-82? Questions ... We have many.

I guess I was hoping with your film insight you'd say, "this is a complicated shoot with coordinating, permits, exact weather blah blah blah that makes this a longer process" ... but basically you're just saying what my brain knows but my heart keeps trying to refute, which is ... they just don't want to.

Ultimately ... Yeah, that is what it comes down to.

So back to the "spirit" if this thread ... I recently went to Tokyo Dining and could not have been more shocked at how "dumb down" the menu was, basically every dish is essentially fried something, fried chicken or shrimp ... sure tempura is good but the entire menu? I had to think of you when I saw this.

I agree. Replacing it seems dumb, especially in DCA. But it seems like they're going to do what was done with PhilharMagic and take a 'unique' attraction intended for a Chinese MK and debut it here first.
I strongly feel it is a dumb move for DCA but a perfect fit for Epcot. However, since we are in the age Of "One Disney" apparently everything must conform whether it fits thematically or not. On the plus side we get the Grizzly Peak Expansion for DCA in the process.

Good! The topic is no longer American TV (which I can't see here in Germany), but food. That is something I can contribute to!

The interesting thing about Tokyo Dining is that it is not operated by Disney but by Mitsukoshi (the company that also operates the wonderful shop). They ought to know better what real Japanese food is. But I guess they see a need to offer this type of food in order to compete with the other choices around World Showcase. And it is not a recent change either. If you look at the 2008 menu, it mainly has tempura and sushi. I can only imagine that the restaurant was more thought of as a sushi place, but since that does not fit the dining plan mold, it appears that everything is tempura while it was never meant to be that this is the main focus.

Unfortunately, there isn't anything going on ... I'd much rather discuss other things that would get ugly in a hurry here (likely).

All is quiet on the Disney front. I think that's why folks have gone from talking about those MAGICal Tangled toilets (nice, but not all that!) to escalators at the Land and cinnamon buns that Starbucks has taken away.

I 'may' and I use that term with caution have more (or more detailed, I should say) info on UNI's Florida plans and Disney's Asian plans in the next few days or I may not.

Oh, and on another front, as I type this Tony Baxter is being given a proper good-bye (sorry, fanbois he is done with Disney and he is too much of a fanboi himself to go work for UNI or someone else) at DL's Club 33.
The proper goodbye to Tony makes it somewhat ok, now I have to get on Facebook to see if some of my pals were at Club 33 tonight. Some know him personally and might have been there.

I beg to differ. I thought the Fathers Day episode was fantastic.

The one I was referring to (not sure of the name) is the one where he visits his alma mater and sings a lot. It would have been an okay character episode on a weekly series. But when you are marathoning the show, it just feels like a lull.

As a Walking Dead lover, I must agree with that. About one in every four episodes is what I'd call competent writing ... one in six might actually qualify as quality or good. I blame Kirkman who is ruling that roost with an iron fist and chasing showrunners away left and right. He also is basically a moody fanboi prick (is that acceptable here?) who feels he is much more talented than he actually is.

100% agreed. Kirkman is the kind of guy who is involved in a bitter legal battle with his childhood friend who helped him create the book. There's more than enough money to go around, but Kirkman wants all the money (and more importantly control) to himself. It's clear he doesn't play well with others. But he also lacks the talent to write the comic book, novels and guide the TV show all by himself. Not to mention all the other WD stuff he has his hands in. And other properties.

The funny thing is he basically stole TWD from Romero. You could say that about anyone who works in the zombie genre. But TWD comic was originally written as a Night of the Living Dead comic since the name is in public domain. The editor talked Kirkman into changing the name and time period (it was set in the 60s like the movie) so they could retain the rights. Good call. It made Kirkman a rich man.

I still enjoy the show. But sometimes half the fun is in making fun of it. There is so much potential there. Hopefully next season will show some improvement, but I'm not optimistic.

Since you brought up Man of Steel I should warn you it's currently sitting at a 69% approval rating on RT, 54% for "Top Critics". I'm thinking this may not be the big creative hit that Superman fans have wanted (Imagine, 2 within ten years of each other).

I am forcing my expectations down low. Donner's Superman is one of my favorite movies of all times. Must not compare the two! I wouldn't want them to try to remake Donner's Superman. We saw how that turned out with Superman Returns. I so want this movie to stand on its own. From the reviews, it sounds like it mostly does if you don't mind that it is mostly summer spectacle over substance.

I just don't want to be disappointed. A good Superman movie would mean more to me than all the Dark Knights in the world.

WB needs to get on making a great Wonder Woman movie I can take my daughters to! (Probably shouldn’t have rejected Whedon’s script. Hope someone got fired over that.)

Or when Bob Iger will learn that superhero movies, like the comics they're based on, are cyclical.

I'm not sure they are anymore. With CGI allowing for almost anything, I'm not sure audiences will ever tire of the spectacle super hero movies provide. They may not always be as popular as they are right this minute. But I don't think we will ever see a time when several summers pass between super hero movies (as was the case when I was growing up). I imagine we will have several super hero adventures every year going forward. Some will hit and some will miss just like any other genre.

Hopefully we can be spared a string of Green Lanterns. Man, was that ever unfortunate. WB really gambled on that one and went bust.
