Ah, Kevin, that's what they should do. But it isn't what they are doing. They are letting information that should be private and SECURE (again, using non-technical, everyman speak). Since they can't do this. They should shut it down and take any financial and/or PR hits because clearly a woman named Maggie living in Oregon with eight nights at the GF in October shouldn't be pulling up a ressie for a dude named Steve from New Jersey who has three rooms linked for a family reunion at PO in June.

I am dying to know how many gift cards are going out and if they all have the same value (is your privacy worth $50 or $500 or $1500 etc?)

Yeah, that'd be an interesting one to know.

Oh - my bet as to why they've not reverted to an older, functioning version? They don't have one. Doesn't matter if it is a SQL issue, session issue, or page coding issue, it should have already been fixed if they had a working version. My bet is the shop that coded it doen't have good QA and testing procedures.

If one of my systems had a problem like that, airplanes might fall out of the sky...seriously. That's as far as I'm willing to tell what I do...

Wow, and thanks! I actually understand 99% of that :)

The thing is, for me, I would really love for this to work, but to make my Disney, and my family's Disney experience better. I actually love some of the conveniences they are trying to bring to us, along with the stuff that some don't like...for instance, I think it'd be pretty neat to be able to go in to meet Mickey with my family and have the new Mickey, the one that talks, be able to carry on a conversation with us, and a mildly informative one at that. Also, I don't mind the 'tracking' component of my activities...I'd only have issue with it if it were trying to be done without my knowledge. If they can tell that I'm getting stuff for my daughter on her birthday, and they know that from our past trips she has a favorite character, and oh-by the way, we have something new and spectacular at the gift shop in Belle's village that you daughter would love and you can't get it anywhere else...by all means, send me an alert.

My concern is the problems they seem to be having now. And whether or not they'll get it right. I fear that they've built too many systems over the years, systems that don't easily talk to each other, systems that can't play nice with each other, and now they have a new headmaster called MM+, and no amount of screaming or hand slapping from the headmaster is going to get them to get along nicely. I hope I'm proven wrong, and that it doesn't 'break the bank' from them proving me wrong. I don't want to ever go back to a WDW where I have to ride the Carousel of Progress and feel like I need a shower after I leave the theater...because there are such gaps in the walls that the smoking area has completely permeated the theater, and I also don't want to need medical attention because the seat that I sat in initially is in such disrepair that I almost fell on the floor. My concern is that things like that will just get set aside, the attraction will be shuttered, and a piece of WDW will sit vacant and unused for time unknown, because the checkbook simply isn't a bottomless pit.

So, again, thank you. I do think that they'll be able to pull it all together, but it sure seems like they've got quite a bit of work ahead of them.

Good post. I feel the same way. These latest issues are really getting me worried though.

Well I'm senior in high school and right now my current plan is to do the CP and at one do a professional internship. I've always wanted to become a mid executive or maybe something even higher and now I feel like my plan pointless and that dream is crushed

I would hope not. You just have to be realistic. Deciding as a teen that there's only one company you want to work for is extremely limiting and isn't a smart strategy for your life.

If you want to do the CP, then do it. I don't know anyone who has done it that hasn't enjoyed their time. But you need to understand that it usually doesn't lead to anything. A professional internship is quite different and valuable. If you can get one of those, you absolutely should. because that can help you land a job with other employers. It can help with Disney, but it absolutely doesn't guarantee a thing. I have a friend doing one right now in Resorts.

But the best advice I could ever give you is don't pin all your hopes on one company. Find out what you are good at and try and be the best and learn other skills/disciplines as well and then see where you are at.

Disney completely oversells the College Program to hopeful teenagers and young adults. Just remember that when you go forward.

Honestly, giving everyone a heads up about the basis of your knowledge would have prevented much of this. Full disclosure and whatnot.
Do you expect the guy tuning instruments at Yamaha to also be involved with tuning up their motorcycles? Would it be inconceivable for him to still have a good degree of knowledge about motorcycles?

So about that exec not being able to access the concierge lounge and pitching a fit, huh?

That MAGICband can really get to you I guess. It's like wearing a house arrest bracelet for an extended period of time, not that I'd know anything about that....

Or perhaps their job is on the line and they are cracking from the stress?

And exactly how many people do you think I am?

Names are not unique... Now that we've established that. Maybe you should consider apologizing for accusing me of lying because you found someone who happens to share my name.
I never accused anyone of anything. I'm suspicious by nature about some things, but I know how to stop short of an accusation of anything I am anything less than 100% sure about.
In your case, all I had/have was a mild curiosity.

Of course not.
But I would hope that the guy would make full disclosure about his role if it could be relevant at all. And that isn't necessarily a bad thing. It could just as likely lend some added credence and credibility to his statements.

But that is just what happened here. There is no substantial connection. So much of the technology conversation regarding MyMagic+ has been operating under the false assumption that technology is technology. Even if we did have one of the authors of Web Application Vulnerabilities posting here, they're security experts. They could tell us how to go about keeping information collected by Disney can be kept safe and secure but they would likely be far less helpful in telling us or Disney how that information can be utilized to generate revenue. It's the same reason people are saying stuff like "FastPass+ is a lousy show for $1 billion." Or RFID and GPS constantly being confused. "Technology" has become a highly fragmented world of specialties.

To me, the likeliest reason Disney is tripping over themselves in the development of the system is because they have a rather well established history of poorly handling these types of products. The Disney websites are infamous for being cumbersome, difficult to navigate and lacking in information. The integration of the ticketing systems of the Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World still has not been completely smoothed out. And unfortunately the widespread lack of familiarity and even some degree of fear of technology means that people, inside and outside companies, will accept shoddy work. This problem is just compounded by a leadership that is easily dazzled but equally as ignorant.

But how can you accuse someone of taking an "out front" position of defending something when the other guy has clearly taking an "out front" position opposing the product? If one is suspect, then the other must be too, no?
I assume that was for me...

I didn't "accuse" anyone of anything.
Clearly, flynn has been the leading "defender" of the NGE tech. Nothing wrong with that, if that's what his gut and heart are telling him and he's not working for personal gain. (NOT an accusation, just a hypothetical.)
74 has been its leading opponent. He's taken an "out front" position. If we were to find out he works for Universal or another competing interest, I'd hope that would be disclosed. (I know that isn't the case...just an example.)

Am I wrong?
Can we discuss something actually relevant now?

I suppose now is as good a time as ever to come clean. I'm Bob Iger.

Side note based on post above - Anyone who has ever designed, built, or organized anything sees they need to roll this system back or turn it off for a while. They didn't do near enough testing. You can't beta test something like this in the real world. It is not a friggin' video game app that features birds and pigs.
No Way!!! I'm Bob Iger!
Would you Bob Igers just release Song of the South on DVD already?!?!?! I ask every year at the shareholders' meeting, but you never listen!

What difference does it really make?

Because his theory hangs on anyone who possibly understands technology and can see the elements for what they are individually - must be biased and compromised ... heaven forbid independent thought actually exists and people want truths, not misinformation.

You're right, accuse was too strong a word. I do apologize for that. I just wanted to make sure the same rules applied to everyone, because the general feel here is, if you don't agree with one particular poster, than you are a plant, have ties to the project, etc.

But we have no idea if he has an interest in seeing MM+ fail. But we have to assume if Flynn has an interest in seeing it succeed, as he states, then we must also assume he has an interest in seeing it fail. He may very well work for Universal, I don't know because he hasn't disclosed that.

I like you, Lee. You seem to take the "let cooler heads prevail" path (at least what I can tell from here). Something I could improve upon.

Man, I'm disappointed I didn't make that connection. My team won't shut up abut how cool Tandberg was.

Was a great place to work :) Worked me to death at times.. but well worth it. The type of environment where everyone works 150% on their own accord because of their belief in what they were doing, and their pride and commitment to their coworkers.
