I'd say it's worse that it took 3-4 years for Disney to build a kiddy coaster while Universal is going to open the most revolutionary and exciting theme park expansion ever in the same/less time.

Shameful actually.

I agree with this. I think a more fair comparison is Transformers to Little Mermaid. Both are clones so no new technology. Transformers still came together much faster. Mermaid has a much more elaborate exterior but it still took considerably longer than a year to build. Until I can ride Transformers I can't say which is a better ride experience, but based on seeing the video of the CA version it looks pretty Sick. I doubt it will disappoint.
I am delighted with the LM ride. Seriously. I love it.

It would be hard to beat it, for me, with Transformers. But I was always an Ariel fan and don't even know exactly what the transformers are, lol. I think they're one thing and then become something else to fight crime, but am not even sure about that. I'll have to ask a kid.

Uni has taught me, though, that I can be unfamiliar with whatever they're doing and still love the ride, so I'm not discounting it yet. I've learned not to underestimate them!! Whatever they do, I get a little excited about because they so rarely let me down.

Gotta wait and see. :)

Way to not exaggerate or anything.

I'm serious, I believe that with HE and Gringotts, along with all the rumored real "next gen" effects throughout the land and just the massive details are enough to call it the most revolutionary theme park (land) addition in a long time.

As a kid I loved Transformers. I really can't wait for the ride. I also really like Little Mermaid. I am a sucker for the classic omni-mover type rides that put Disney on the map. I know Transformers will be more cutting edge and have a lot more thrill factor, but I agree that I will have to ride both before making a final judgement. What I can say for sure is Little Mermaid looks a lot better from the outside.

They're exploiting PROVEN media commodities using outsourced ride systems. Nothing revolutionary there. It's good business, but this thread usually hates good business.

Disney gets flamed because Avatar isn't internal IP but Uni is worshipped for what they're doing with Rowling's Potter. Disney gets flamed because WDI has lost all creativity, but Uni is worshipped for buying a license from KUKA.

I agree it looks like it will be sick. It should exceed the original Potter Land if they build what is expected/rumored. Still won't be more revolutionary than the Original EPCOT Center when it opened, but that was a long, long time ago.

Calling the Mine Train a Kiddie Coaster is an exaggeration.

Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey is much more than a bought license from KUKA. It's what they were able to do with the ride system; creating one of the world's best themed attractions.

And if Gringotts and the Train turn out as incredible as speculated they could both be on par with or even exceed Forbidden Journey. Really is a pretty exciting expansion.

Ok... Yet unlike Disney... They're actually putting these technologies together (and developing their own.) to provide a new exhilarating and revolutionary experience. (Which will far exceed Phase I which I found to be on par with what Disney did with Carsland.)

As for the second part... Came off as rambling.

I do agree that comparing Transformers to SDMT is unfair. This is the third time that Universal will be building Transformers. SDMT is the first of it's kind. And plus, it does have a much more elaborate exterior. I do like the Transformers exterior, I think it works well and there is little that they could really do given it's location in the park.

Hence long time, Though I stand by my statement that Mine Train is a kiddy coaster, a very well themed kiddy coaster and one that "swings" but it is what it is.

It should be technologically amazing and a treat for locals but it shouldn't have the impact of phase one. "Wow they have Potterland and we've never been" is much more of a draw than "what did they do? Potterland is bigger now?" The average guest doesn't do research into ride systems and new technology.

"Kiddy" might be a negative to you but it should be good for, you know, kids. Also, parents and grandparents have thrill tolerances closer to their younger children than their teenagers.

Uni's risk is they're building big kid rides themed to a younger kid brand. Teens and twenty somethings love Potter because they grew up with it but I see the franchise going the way of Twilight rather than Tolkien.

Wait for Avatar. Yes it will be slow, but that's by design. If what's currently on the table is seen through, which I expect it to be, it will be truly epic.

Did I say anywhere in my post that a Kiddy coaster was a bad thing? No. I said it is sad how long it takes to build something that should be built in half the time. Don't put words in my mouth.

From a business standpoint Potter Phase 1 was/is far more important to Uni than phase 2. Probably saved the park. From a pure ride and experience standpoint phase 2 looks like it has the possibility to exceed phase 1. Its unlikely to add the attendance that phase 1 did, and it probably is costing a lot more to build.

Avatar is stupid and unnecessary when Disney is its own franchise.

The problem with Disney is that they are letting the parks go to hell while spending huge amounts of money on Star Wars and stupid Avatar. And they never build cool, fun rides. Everything has to be good for 4-7 year old girls. They just cutback and let the parks get old and dirty while the staff continues to get worse and can almost always be found chatting with each other instead of available to help people. You have to go say, "Excuse me" and apologize about breaking up their conversation to ask a question.

Uni, on the other hand, has very well kept up parks. They look gorgeous. They have landscaping. Their hotels are wonderful, with fantastic service and give you real perks. And they build fun rides in amazingly themed areas. The staff is pretty much the same as Disney's, but continues to improve.

Uni is an exceptionally relaxing and fun vacation. Disney is...Disney.

Uni deserves the praise. Disney deserves a kick in the butt.

We have a different definition of a kiddie coaster. IMHO Barnstormer is a kiddie coaster. Mine Train is far from Barnstormer.
