Yeah, those videos in the time tunnel are very annoying. TV monitors in ANY WDW attraction tend to annoy me ( seems like such a cheap way out..) but thetlone in SSE take the cake. I usually have to put my hand up over my left eye to block the glare. I try to pretend its all nice and dark like it used to be...when your own imagination took over and you felt a bit of a rush as you were'nt entirely sure what was going to happen! I understand why the videos are there though.....we have all those Guests who don't behave themsleve to thank for that....(grumbles)

I remember my first ride on SEE in 83'. I'm not a coaster fan and was always scared of fast rides so you can imagine how freaked i was when we started up that opening inclne! Man, i was scared stiff thinking it was a roller coaster!! I was also pretty spooked when the Omnimovers' rotate backwards for the decent to Earth. I was not liking that at all that first time...and was nervous as heck ( i was 12...lol) but now i love it! I try to remember how i felt that "first time" and realize that maybe if these videos/audio cues were there back then i would'nt have been so worried.

That being said.....i'm glad they were'nt! SSE had a far better impact i think when they were not there. I vote for removing them from the inside of the ride...and maybe placing them somewhere in the load area(s).

I would like to see the old Global area renovated as well.....i was getting chills standing in there this past September looking up at the old original circular movie screens! Man, those things brought back a lot of memories of Classic Epcot Center....dare i say it made my sad too. Such a shame it's all just sitting there un-used. I'm sure now that we have a new sponser, it will be re-opened! Yay!

haha I was scared to death the first time I rode SSE too thinking it was going to have a huge drop at the end or something.

The old screens from EarthStation? Where exactly are these, I did not know they were still in there.

I noticed he didnt mention the crane next to the EPCOT tower at SSE. It was raining when we where there so nothing was going on. But anyone know what its doing there?

Changing the lights? I heard a rumor that that awful thing was coming down. :hurl: My hope was that they would take it down in honor of the 25th anniversary instead of leaving it up through the anniversary. Alas, I must be wrong.

Not necessarily. The wand may still be coming down. The rumor is that it will be coming down sometime towards the end of the year. Will have to wait and see. All I was saying was that the crane that is currently there is only doing some routine maintenance.

UGH! I was hoping the crane was here to tear it down.

Sorry folks, sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings... The wand is a permanent fixture of Spaceship Earth... and according to corporate partners... Siemans rather likes their new ride so closely associated with the park... and the parks name.

As you exit the unload area, and enter where EarthStation/Global N. was...look up. You will see the old circular screens running along the curved upper walls. These may now be covered up, but when i was last visiting in September, they were in plain view if you bothered to look up with curious eyes.

I wasnt expecting to see them still up there...so you can imagine what a surprise it was when i finally realized what i was looking at! I have to admit, seeing those old screens gave me sentimental feelings. It reminded me of the Epcot Center i so knew and loved back in it's early era...sigh....:)

I'm going back in mid-March and will look for them again. If anyone gets there before me take a good look.....!

I think you're wrong on this. I went to Epcot this January.

What you're seeing are the global neighborhood screens. They wrap around in 360 degrees and are tilted toward the center of the room.

The earth station screens...there were only 7 of them at the far end of the room, making a 180 degree effect, they were slightly rounded on their edges and did not tilt toward the viewer.

It has been said by a few sources that the Earth Station Screens are still there. BEHIND the global neighborhood screens. The ceiling which I have seen in flash photography of the boarded up global neighborhood, appears to be gutted of it's tiles, but I cannot truly tell.

You will notice in any earth station photographs that it was far more open.

With a darkened ceiling, and screens larger than the earth station screens, the illusion of space is lost.

Why take the earth station screens down when they are right in the wall, when you can simply cover them up?

Also the global neighborhood screens are hung by wires attatched to the ceiling, still allowing the option of the earth station screens to still be there, but not visibly.

To be pedantic (again)...there were only 6 screens in Earthstation. What appeared to be the middle one was infact a UV lit EPCOT Center logo.

However, I`ve run some composites for comparrison:

A wide angle of Earthstation http://photoalbums.wdwmagic.com/showphoto.php?photo=18500&size=big

and a wide angle of the New Global Neighborhood http://photoalbums.wdwmagic.com/showphoto.php?photo=18501&size=big

so you can see they are totally different setups, in totally different places. And I have also heard the original Earthstation screens are still up there - I`d imagine so considering how high up they are, and the fact they were rear projection with the projection spaces built into the rear of the SSE Corporate lounge means you can`t just lift them down.

Sure, they'll probably change the wand to highlight the number 25 at the star.
ahhhh, i hope not...... but it would make sense to prolong the wand and use the 2 & 5. i guess we will see.

boy, id love to see some of these peoples sources, since you know, they seem to know a lot.

Good to hear! I like the wand and don't mind seeing it stay around. To me, it adds a magical touch to the icon of the park.

Seems like the same people that complain about "lost magic" are the same ones that complain about the wand. Maybe they just like complaining. :lookaroun

Really? And here I thought they wanted something less tacky and more classic.
