Ok here's my 2 cents.
I would not change space mountain architectually. It has a pretty neat history. It's the first indoor rollercoaster in the world. Why need to update it so much? I agree with the idea of new lighting, sound, and better effects so we can say goodbye to the flying cookie comets, but it has a theme to it. You are in a 1970s apollo space pad, and they are announcing the arrivals and departures of their shuttles.
It's not just nostalgia, it's whimsicle in a way, and fun to look at to see how the future has changed, but you can still experience it. I prefer the pre and post show/que areas far better than the other Space Mountains. They[the news SM's] almost all look the same, and do the same, and yet I can't even really consider paris to be a true space mountain, it's almost like a rocking roller coaster.
So again, like it was said about the coney island cyclone...The oldest roller coaster in the world, which is in Lakemont, PA...goes under 20 miles and hour, it has no dips, and only a gradual figure eight incline. It is still a popular ride and people wait in decent lines to ride it. Why? Because it is the last of it's kind, it is pure nastalgia, and it shows how far we have come.
We have three other similar SM's why should we have to gut out and destroy the original? If you want those Sm's than don't ride the SM in WDW and go travel to see the other ones. As far as the track goes, I like the "I feel my head will come off" effect. Let it be jittery, and jercky, and all these little dips and fast turns. You may personally not like it. (so why ride it then?), but the original SM is hardly even over publicsed, and still draws in 2 hour lines.
I just want the track to be well maintained, the cars maintained, and new effects such as sound, audio, and visual. The rest should stay.
BTW was SM in WDW originally in total darkness? Maybe on special nights they should do that again. You'll have lines extending out toward mainstreet USA. :hammer:
