Space Mountain/Tomorrowland Transit Authority update...

According to the Walt Disney World Explorer computer program it states "The trees in tomorrowland fold up at night, and unfold during the day to provide guests with a spot of shade."

It would seem kind of odd for somthing that the WDC would produce and worked on by imagineers to get somthing wrong like that.
I doubt there were even trees there at this point.:lookaroun:lol:
Why am I sensing posting style Dejavu?

It is such a enig..., no I mean conun.....

Oh never mind. :)
Something wicked this way comes....:lookaroun

I only wish they'd bring back those old school, corny videos that showed Galactic News while you waited in-queue. I was always so fascinated by that when I was younger.

I'll miss the retro theme, but my life will go on without it. 10 years from now I'll probably say the same thing about whatever the current themeing is going to be. Just seems like they're modernizing Tomorrowland all around.

WDI isn't to blame at all! The people to blame for such a minor refurb is TDO, WDI is probaly doing the best they can with the budget given to them.

I see what your saying but look at stitch's great escape, monsters inc laugh floor, and the new peoplemover narration. Look at Journey Into Imagination with Figment. You can't say the the imagineers are flawless. They have made plenty of mistakes themselves.

I hope they do a good job with Space Mountain though!

Would have been great if it had been given the money it needed.

monsters inc laugh floor

Not a bad attraction. Bad placement.

and the new peoplemover narration.

Opinion, but there's nothing wrong with the new narration.

Look at Journey Into Imagination with Figment.

Yea, this one I'll give you

All those examples are WDI using what budget, scope and time they are given.

WDI had great plans for Space Mountain. Orlando management butchered them.

Give WDI the earth and you get Orlandos TOT. Cut the budget and you get the others. They arn`t perfect, but can`t be blamed for most of what the parks have gotten over the past 15 years.

You've proven our point. Budget, budget, and budget answer each one of your examples. Imagineers have nothing to do with that.

I certainly hope so. If SM is decent enough, and fits what the TTA had done, I would certainly say that something is up.

I do agree that there have been misteps, but you also have to look at the climate that they are in. As said, TDO and other factors can weight in hard on this.

How about the rest of the things Citizen mentioned?

Not to get too off topic here -- but honestly I'm still surprised that (at least in my book), an entire decade later, Disney has done nothing to top the Spider-Man ride at IOA. Budgets aside, you would think they'd want to one-up the competition out of pride and reputation alone. Looks like the Harry Potter ride may up the ante once again too... And who knows what's in store for Transformers.

I'm not convinced that Stitch would have benefited from a bigger budget. The bigest problem with that show is the writing. The second problem is the special effects and other elements.

I could see Monsters inc. being better if it had real Audio Animatronics, special effects, and was preferably at a different park instead of TL.

SGE? TDO panicking at a few complaints about AE, then asking for a flawed upgrade where the core attraction has the same issues, and a height restriction that stops those guests the new attraction is aimed at from actually seeing it. Not to mention letting in some who didn`t get to be scared on AE be scared on SGE.

TLF? TDO admitted off the record they failed to market and promote Timekeeper well enough. They wanted a cheap replacement. WDI had technology waiting for a proper use - the golden rule is story first, not tech. The tech should be used to show the story.

TTA? The start of the new direction TDO want Tland to go, if they will pay to complete it. As of now it sticks out like a sore thumb. Expect a mish mash of themes and ideas in Tland for a good few years to come.

Anticitizen, I have 3 questions for you.

1) Are you Ghostbuster/Enigma/Conundrum? if not

2) Are you merf? if not

3) Why did you lie about 1 of those questions?

Of course, if I'm wrong, then welcome to the boards, friend!!

That, and it's not original.

However, I do enjoy it...it's a decent show.

Shame about TK. That show resonated with me for some odd reason. Absolutly loved it, and would love to see at least the AA of TK return. I assume that is impossible though...and improbable.

And I am VERY happy to get some confirmation from you on TL.:D:sohappy: I assumed and had gotten wind that this is looking to transition into a different type of TL. Do you think that the "new" (!?) SM will point the way? I'm thinking that it's aesthetics, (if any) might show us.

REALLY, REALLy hope this happens, now...:lol:

Hey Martin,

What happened to all the stuff that was stored in the old skyway building.

E-Bay or re-use or demolished?

Timekeeper and some old skyway buckets I believe correct?

Have you ever seen the Walt Disney World website?

Yep, This is sadly a regular misconception by certain people on these boards. This is not AT ALL WDIs fault they are in the constraints of TDOs buget and cutting corners.

As '74 (I thinl) said recently, They could design a TDS for florida, or a totally new ride for the SGE space, but often TDO doesn't want to pay for it!.

Shame that Tim has gone now, he really did some amazing projects, having experienced Discoveryland first hand...
Money is finite and every designer has to work within the confines of a budget. At some point Walt Disney Imagineering needs to wake up and realize what they are playing with. When budget cuts are the norm, then they should be prepared for them to happen. "Not enough money" as a reason only goes so far.

Did Conundrum get banned or something? I'm starting to see something familiar in these posts...

:lookaroun

More of a "something". All of his/her posts disappeared. Not really banned, but a persona non-grata none the less as it appears that posting privileges have been revoked. He has been spotted lurking around the forums though.
