Good graduation present...:brick::ROFLOL:

Well, then what is Lee referring to when he said not YET?

Lee has said many times that he is not an employee of TWDC.. so anything he (sorry lee!) or anyone else says, has to be taken for what it is..

My point is... Don't blame Disney... THEY didn't get your hopes up for an improved decent.. They told us it was FINISHED... Nothing more..

Exactly. Its Disney's fault one way or another. Either a) they produced a bad final product or b) failed to execute their plan effectively and re-opened the attraction knowing a good third of it was unfinished.

And either way, we're stuck with a half-assed descent.

False hopes also came with the Triangles...:(

Not exactly.
Much has been done, and more will eventually happen. If they moved the curtains...you would see some stuff.
However, Disney has turned it's attention elsewhere in FW, and will return to SSE when (if) Siemens forces the issue and coughs up the money. The additional work in SSE was never seen as a big deal to the company, but they continued to finance the work up until fairly recently.
Now they see their time and money better spent in other pavillions which will currently remain nameless.

Interesting (and please excuse me if I am missing something because I don't have the time to read thru the whole 78 pages here ... I was kindly pointed to your posts) ... but everything I heard was that Siemens was very unhappy with the descent and went to Disney and basically said 'we're spending millions to be a sponsor here and this isn't acceptable' so Disney was coughing up the money.

Either way, it sounds absurd to think either party spent however much they have tinkering in there behind curtains and under darkness only to say 'nah, let's just leave it and we can get back to it in six months or 2011 or 2014 or never.

I'd also think it would be in Disney's interest to keep its ever dwindling roster of big time corporate sponsors happy.

Different situation. With SSE they did all they could in the time allotted, then were forced to try to finish up later. It was never planned to take this long.
They are going into SM with the plan to do a lot of the structural work now, work that will enable them to make further additions later. I'm not currently able to be specific, but if you think hard enough...you can probably see where I'm going with this.

No ... I can't see or hear ya. (but looking forward to breaking bread soon!)

Spent the last five days at the resort. Talked to many interesting people.
The attention at Epcot is going into FW.
From what I have learned Mr. Cockrell is looking to make things happen...or so it seems. It's all a matter of priority. At this point, what little remains to do at SSE is not high on the priority list.

I've heard similar ... at least as far as Danny goes. Apparently he wants to try and step out of the old man's shadow and look like he deserves his position. Time will tell, but it sounds good.

How was the trip? You doing an observations thread?

you guys are such weenies, p00ping up the Space Mountain thread with your SSE whining.

don't wake up the Adventurers . . . :D

Blame EE! Its his fault! We were all lured by his evil ways! :lookaroun

Sorry for the hijacking. Anyone have a SM thought they'd like to share to bring us back on point?

Right...But shouldn't it be their money with Disney's ideas? Of course, they can interject their ideas too...Which isn't what the descent is?

Spending money and then wasting it on not finishing it is not good business sense, even for Disney.

:D As am I! Should be fun.

Cockerel is doing a interesting job. I'm very much against this SSE abandonment but am quite happy to hear that other projects are being considered and that maintenance is on the return.

Can I just say how much I love Lee and Marni for being masters at poking the fire? Its like quality entertainment watching everyone go wild with speculation.

Not that there's anything wrong with that. ;) Interesting ideas, many of them...we'll just have to see what happens. :)

the return of blue stretch polyester? :lookaroun

:lol::lol::ROFLOL::lol::lol:

I wish WDW's SM was getting the music in the cars. That would go a long, long way, especially with "select your own soundrtrack" music like I hear is going in at the Uni Rip Rockit.

True! How about a more agressive star tunnel piece to theme the ride to? That would be awesome! But, Lee and Martin are hinting that this refurb is laying the foundation for "refurbishments for your future enjoyment." Maybe we'll see (or hear) music someday. Wish it was this time though. :(

All part of the plan...:king::lookaroun

You know what I've noticed? Nobody panics when things go according to plan...even if the plan is HORRIFYING. If I tell the press that like a Fry Cart will be torn down, or Space Mountain won't get new lighting...nobody panics. Because it's all "Part of the Plan"...but if I don't finish the ending of ONE little old Dark Ride...Well everybody LOSES THEIR MINDS!

Basically, don't hold your breathe that WDW will make any effort to finish SSE and be prepared now (by lowering your expectations to 6 flags levels) if you think SM's rehab will be anything "great"

That's how I look at all of WDW nowadays. Go to DL for lots of magic, big budgets and a "real" (or more real) Disney experience. Corporate greed has run rampant around DL as well. They have just learned to balance the guest experience and making money hand over fist. WDW would rather deliver sub par experiences and squeeze just a few more pennies out of every sucker (myself included) who still gives them money.

I'm proud to say my 5 day Orlando trip coming up will only include one day at EPCOT and one meal at the CA Grill. All other tourist dollars will be given to Universal and Sea World. They are the ones working hardest for my discretionary entertainment dollars these day and should be rewarded for their efforts. I will let my wallet speak for me.

All I can say is...WOW! :hurl:
I think I'm going to start counting the number of people on here proclaiming how much better DL is than WDW, lets see, there this guy above, and Conundrum, and WHO CARES!!!! If it was up to you y'all, WDW would be nothing but a copy of DL! Sorry I'll take two different resorts. Granted, would I like to see WDW do better, absolutely. Am I going to run from the ship like a rat as if the thing were on fire? NO WAY! I'm going to be there in a week, am I going to miss going on SM? Absolutley! But my five days are going to be spent in WDW, because, well, I like the whole place along with all the individual rides within. And, honestly, with the above attitude, PLEASE go to Uni and SW - it'll make the atmoshpere for my trip to WDW all the better, and certainly a heck of a lot more positive. :king:

...and nothing more is coming..never was.

Incorrect.
More was coming, and more will come.
As I said earlier, work was being done...now it has been stopped and efforts redirected to areas that are more of a priority.
Work could resume tomorrow if Siemens decided to insist and/or write a check, but for now, that little project is on the back burner.

Apparently that was true, up to a point. They did add stuff to the descent (more triangles, lighting, improved animation) for quite a while. It seems now that Disney feels that it is at a point that they don't need to continue the work, as the effort and money (what little it was) will be better used elsewhere in FW. Enough work has been done that when some extra money does shake loose, SSE could be finished rather easily.

Either way, it sounds absurd to think either party spent however much they have tinkering in there behind curtains and under darkness only to say 'nah, let's just leave it and we can get back to it in six months or 2011 or 2014 or never.
I thought so, too. But it seems that when Cockrell decided to move on other things, SSE was an easy target to shut down. After all, they declared it "finished", and other than folks like us, nobody knows anything is missing.

The trip? Wet. Endlessly wet.
I don't tend to do observation threads or trip reports, so I'll just toss the odd comments into established threads...even going off topic, like this:
SM- Enough porta-johns on site to handle an army.
EE - No steam. Disco yeti. No blowing snow. Just sad.
Imag - Ride got off sync near the smell area. Effects, audio and vehicles not in sync at all. Smell was there before the vehicles, and the audio never really kicked in. Needs help...no, needs demolition.
PoTC - Audio was lower than usual. Couldn't make out what Jack was saying at all.
Manta - Phenomenal. Top notch theme, exterior appearance, queue and ride.
Best coaster in Orlando...at least for the next six weeks or so...maybe longer.

Don't even get me started on that scene, it's been in a funk forever now. The transition audio refuses to stop playing.
